  1. I asked about this at my Bangkok Bank. Even joint accounts need to go through probate before surviving spouse can access funds. Tiresome and costly. The bank staff just advised leaving my wife my ATM card so that she could withdraw the cash slowly after my death. Not legal but that is what they said. So instead , I got a decent safe , well hidden and secured and keep the bulk of my cash in it leaving only 100,000 in the bank as a float. Simple with instant access.
  2. Drove to Bangkok today from Petchabun. Surprisingly , most gas stations had no queues. But just one had a queue of pickup trucks 200 meters long ? Odd that unless others already out. In our home town same. PTT long queue. Shell around the corner ...normal. In any case the government should announce that filling up water butts on the back of trucks with gas is illegal. Seen that already
  3. Trump never lies. If he says the war is nearly over must be true.
  4. They might let it pass in an envelope with a little tissue around it. I still post envelopes to the USA but my order books have fallen off a cliff. Also experiencing non delivery of items sent obliging me to refund. The tariff calculations are so complicated that they have suspended accepting anything larger than envelopes. If you live in a big city DHL etc might be a better bet. This is not only Thailand. Many countries postal services have suspended accepting anything for the USA. Great job Donald.
  5. A few weeks back I almost booked a return flight with Emirates to London for March 31st for 27,000 baht. Gonna have a long wait to see that price again.
  6. If they kill him what then ? Will Iran roll over and give up or will they just name someone else ad infinitum. It will just end up being whack a mole on a bigger scale. Israel and the USA learnt nothing from Putins ' two week ' military operation. The up ramp is well lit. The off ramp is way off in the darkness.
  7. And Israel also. They will have more than a wailing wall before this is over.
  8. Trump throws rattle out of pram. What's new. I feel really sorry for the many Americans with intelligence that they have to tolerate this petulant buffoon bringing disgrace to the office of president for a few more years. Hopefully when the next election comes around they will consider carefully that a bad choice will have a bad outcome. The same applies in the UK where the situation is also pretty sad.
  9. What is it about Phuket that attracts all these low lifes from around the planet ? Birds of a feather ???
  10. My return flight with Emirates in May for 27,000 baht is pretty screwed now so nothing to do except wait and hope.
  11. Oh well, stopping wars and craving the nobel prize got boring very quickly. Time to change tack.
  12. Finally managed to succeed in cancelling !! What a yawn
  13. What a palava. I now have a change of situation and need to cancel my Friday appointment. It transpires I will need to travel back to the UK in March for personal reasons so I might as well do it there using the same day premium service. I could just do a no show with VFS but not very polite. But..... I have spent 1 hour trying to do this without success. Impossible to phone and getting the run arround online. Has anyone successfully cancelled an appointment if so how ? All phone numbers given both online and on the appointment form are incorrect and not recognised.
  14. Quality entitled trollop from London innit. Phuket has a new beach.
  15. Yes, the cart is a good option. I have been to this place before last year getting my wife her UK visa. Horrible memory as we ate at the food court in central beforehand and my own passpprt fell out of my pocket when I got my phone out. Got to VFS and discovered I had lost my passport. I almost crapped myself. Ran back to the foodcourt and luckily my passport was on the floor under the table we ate at. Phew....talk about relieved.
  16. I have them professionaly done to the right size etc at a local photography shop, Thanks for the quick response, I'll check your link
  17. I have an appointment at VFS in Bangkok this week to renew my UK passport. Just checking I have all my ducks in a row with anyone who has done this recently. The documents I will be taking are as follows : 1) Current passport 2) Full colour copy of passport 3) Completed application form 4) Two colour photographs to the correct specifications 5) Printed appointment letter 6) Payment mandate form 7 ) Yellow housebook with printed English translation ( proof of address ) Have I missed anything vital ? Thanks in advance
  18. They don't like it up 'em captain Mannering. They do not like it up 'em.
  19. Years ago I did this with my then Thai wife and there was no problem as we remained airside in the transit area. However, there was a baggage security check during which an over officious jobsworth customs agent pulled over my Thai wife for wearing an undeclared 2 baht gold chain. This nasty person then made us follow him to a security room for further checking of our luggage. For some reason he then disappeared and left us alone. 5 minutes later a different agent came in and told us were free to proceed to check in for our connecting flight. A weird experience altogether.
  20. Also...good info can be found just zooming in on google maps then clicking on the icons that appear. Excellent for local information.
  21. Ok. Just googled it. The bus still runs and the number of it is 1290. Not sure where it starts from. Somewhere in Bangkok though.
  22. I dont trust chat GPT. I found it to be wrong several times. Ill try and check it out.
  23. If all else fails there is a regular air con bus to the fort on the west bank of the estuary. Cheap as chips and an ok ride. I have been there twice , once with my wife and once by car with friends. There is a museum and a selection of guns outside. A good restaurant built out over the mudflats is a nice place to chill out for a while. Next to the restaurant is a boardwalk over the mangrove lining the shore. There is an old warship permanently moored there to look over and further along the old gun emplacements and batteries pointing out to sea. My last visit was about 25 years ago and there were no tourists around at all, only naval personel. I forget the bus number but should be easy enough to google. I had a bus map at the time and used that.
  24. Well, thank you for your summary on how to apply for the appointment. Certainly saved time. Now that I have got the appointment it seems that a physical application form and photos are required and uploading the form and digital photograph is not necessary after all. ( according to the instructions given by VFS on the appointment letter you have to print out to gain entry. )
  25. Look on the bright side. In the not too distant future dying will only be approved by an online digital application made to VFS ( heaven and hells approved earthly agent ). Incomplete applications will delay death considerably .
