Oooh Breaking news!!!..work permit fees up! What's new?? All gov. fees go up all the time eh?

e.g. Non imm O's, overstay fees, residency permits etc. All have done so in the 2000's by considerable rises.

No surprise and I personally don't care on this one as my Thai boss pays for the WP ....So who is this hurting here ...not the guava eh

Oh and when you actually consider costs ..it still amounts to bugger all of your salary: that is, if you are actually earning a reasonable amount ...if I paid for my own WP and Visa it would amount to way less than 1% of my salary LOL ...ohhh such a big cost eh.

Well, are we being to hard on Thailand? Maybe, but we all have our opinions of how 'things work' here.

I've been here too long like many and whether it is my local cable TV that cuts out on average once a week for a few hours (mind you only 350 baht pcm), my previous ISP TT&T that was dire (my TOT is so far good for 3 weeks, but did have a whole day outage ..but they were sorry about it LOL), my electric to my house that has about 20 power cuts a year, my water supply that goes brown/no water about once a month. Oh well, we are connected to the outside world, but the problem is how they put the infrastructure together.

My take on it ....'Education'. Too many people out there with a degree in Thailand do not appear to have a clue about their job. Their degree says 'computer and business management' etc. but in the real world where this knowledge gained at universities/technical colleges just doesn't match up with what they need to know. I think this is where it all starts with people doing jobs who are 'superficially/under educated' for the role that they undertake.

You may say 'newly industrialising nation' but this process has been going on for some 40 years with the shift from a 'subsistence economy' to an 'export oritented industrialised' economy ...so it ain't that 'new' eh.

Yes, Thailand will always be playing catch up to the 'west', but yes it does have the IT ability but lacks a truly educated workforce to back this up. Add a little sugar on top of 'political will', 'responsibility', 'accountability', and 'service quality' all apparantly lacking too ...and there you have it, thus many of the surrounding countries seem to fair better by what others have said.

One friend once told me of a conspiracy theory of his: "In Thailand, no one who is incompetent is fired, because his incompetent boss would have to point out he's incompetent. The incompetent bosses do not want to rock the boat about incompetence as the finger may turn around and point at them!". Not my words, my friends, but after 10 years I am starting to agree with him

TIT and 'mai bpen rai' rule the day as us falaaangs will just have to mull along with this ...as they say often 'Thailand is for Thais' and us falaaang are just guests. Just try to do what you can and what you cant you cant ...It ain't like the 'west' and that's overall probably a good thing. Just my opinion

This also happened to two seperate friends of mine who sent me E-mails with an attachment from a company in China selling cheap IT stuff.

Mmm, hopefully the teccy's can help you out, but one suggestion is someone has got hold of your password (and thus use your account)....so change your password now!. I'm not saying this is the solution, just an idea to stop your account being hijacked.

Also there is 'diamond' 4MB/512 at 790 + vat. I signed up for platinum but must admit didn't hear about 'gold'. Yes Platinum does drop off on DL very peak times 7-12PM (internationally not to BKK) but other that that fine and UL high and consistent all the time ...works for me

From the last month of mayhem, I would generally agree with that, going by the overall picture from many premier users posting here of I think 'more good than bad' reports ...but it's 1090+vat.

For those of you who can't or don't want to spend this amount ....590+vat below.

From my own experience, TOT Platinum cyber (3mb) is better than Indy 3MB and is the same price. I had maxnet and as seen from this post, numerous problems esp. to U.S. and some miserable figures (most of the time), lack of connectivity and P2P near impossible. I've been on TOT Platinum cyber for 6 days now and was great when I hooked up and has got even better to today with a consistent lower ping to BKK too and even better line attenuation (7 DL 1.5 UL).

Figs at 4PM'ish today with TOT ....it can always be better, but I'm personally happy and realistic with this performance for 590 Baht

Just look at those UL's to U.S. ....I'm no teccy but me thinks this helps gaming and P2P etc. B4 on Indy ...I think highest was 0.22 but often 0.03 to 0.09 and often DL was way below 1MB too.

If you can afford Premier, stick with it and yer probably better off not to switch. But if yer on Indy and no more cash, oh and unhappy ...try TOT ...'suck it and see' ....works for me!

1) For Zen. To be more precise. On an existing TOT line, about 250 metres from new Dslam put in about 4 months ago. Lines to house still the old lines. Dslam to TOT HQ local office about 2 KM's in middle of town and @70 K's to Siam Square. Contract ToT Platinum cyber 3MB/512, 590 Baht + VAT (same price and DL UL as Indy package).

I have to agree that 'something' is going on with Indy and gaming. Just from my own experience (spelt out in Maxnet lastest problems: maxnet answer: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Maxnet-Lates...sw-t277836.html) ..my switch to TOT today has now been great.

My games (unmentioned for reasons you can probably imagine) are now no problem to play on TOT platinum. Up to 20/6/09 no prob on Indy ..and then a big prob, as in no connection at all, except in the wee hours of the night (1.30am to around 9.30am).

I just dunno and all those 1103 calls at the end of the day made no impact. Is it just maybe 'an upgrade ruse?' ....I really am lost with it now, but glad to be out of the maxnet loop once and for all .....normality has returned thanks to TOT

^ For RD ...the DL's could be better, but my P2P for the last 6.5 hours has been spot on and no disconnections ...TOT (so far) appears to work for me ....look at those UL's ...I think therein lies the difference for me personally.

Well, fingers crossed, but so far so good as I can now do what I used to do up until June 20th with maxnet and then no more. My bag, my problem ...solved!!! by switching ISP. TOT (so far) is good in my book ..but just my location and what I want to do.... that's all me thinks. If yer happy with TTT don't switch, If Not do ....and vice versa with TOT ...up to you you you to find out eh.

Well, the switch has been made to TOT platinum at the same price as Indy and it seems fine. I does appear have perfect connectivity to my fave sites in US (for my first 2.5 hours with TOT, B4 on Indy no connectivity 99% of the time) and DL UL to BKK is same as Indy but ping a bit higher (was 45-50 on Maxnet) now 72 - 78MS. Also page loads for TV, hotmail, facebook just plain quicker!

Snr 33 and 26 so ok, but attenuation on UL good at 2.2 but DL is 12.5. I think this is down to the Sh** set up in my house (have 6 phone points, may be one in office is not so good ..will test) or that the last 250 metres to the DSlam at mubaan entrance is too old (@14 years). My friend who is about 30 metres from Dslam with a one year old cable has 1.0 on DL.

However, it doesn't seem to be having an impact of performance at the moment but I will check into it.

Also can use phone same time too and doesn't seem to have an effect either way to phone or comp. use ...(was worried about that)

Ahhhh its sooo funny ...I have no broadband at mo' (as dis-max'ed this morning)so plugged in my old TOT dial up ..tells me its 33.2 KBPS. I have just played on my fave website in las Vegas for 3 hours with one disconnection for 10 seconds on dial up ! (on Maxnet, most of time couldn't even connect lol) My page loads to TV are the same rate !!!

Here's Washington again for comparision on yes ToT dial up ..nope not maxescrement broadband ...TOT dial up !!!

Yeeeah ..I'm Maxfree as of tommorow morning when the engineers are gonna rip out the cables ... I feel happy today.

But yes, I see for some it has improved today ....mine hasn't, and really after 37 days of constant problems and promises/return calls unfulfilled ...I think its time to stop giving these muppets my cash.

I finally got to the office today and said I wanted to cancel 2 weeks'ish before year contract is up, and they said 'no problem'. Easy as that and signed off today. So if you wanna cancel, go ahead, its no problem (well, at least with my local office).

Yes, there are some that say 'noooo, don't go to TOT' and there are some that are 'happy to do so'. We all run around in circles trying to find an ISP that works; some go from TTT to TOT and vice versa, and other providers if you are lucky to have them in your area.

I don't: so TT&T or TOT is my only choice this year.

My opinion is Maxnet is a poor provider and no one can take responsibility there to resolve problems in a reasonable timeframe ..come on, 37 gawd danged days is not reasonable in my book ...some have only suffered 2 or 3 weeks and are happy their internet is back in shape ..but come on , 2 or 3 weeks ! that ain't reasonable either eh.

What is reasonable is 2 or 3 days eh ....how many of you out there who have already posted exceed this figure? Me thinks quite a few.

So TOT it is: simple logic, Maxnet is garbage (and I think will continue to be so, watch out for the next round of problems). TOT is either better or worse ...I will find out for myself by 'sucking it and see'. I reckon the whole choice of ISP is just a lottery and some of us in some areas get lucky and others don't; you just have to find out for yourself. TT&T + TOT = TIT ....honestly thats it!

I was just talking to my neighbour two houses down (she's a big boss for TOT here west of BKK). Asked her about the connectivity etc. and is good on TOT on my mubaan. However, I asked her about my TT&T contract (I have about 3 weeks left on it) ...she said: "don't bother paying them as they have messed up their contracts. Switch over anytime and don't worry about TT&T". Mmmm, take it with a pinch of salt as you do, but I think this time I believe her given the present circumstances.

I reckon Maxnet can't hold anybody to anything considering this 'takeover' is happening as of now. Thus in the politest terms ...eff em an their money/contract ...do not fear if you wish to change ....I am!

Out of the frying pan or up to heaven ...fingers crossed still, its happening this week.

Well, nice to see some Maxnet users in the last few posts have switched providers and seem happy ..it gives me more confidence to do this ...abliet TOT !! Oh and I see one user is happy to pay another 500 per month to go to Premier ...and good luck to that person. However, myself, I have lost faith in Maxnet completely and will tell them tomorrow or Saturday to just cut me off as and when as I am not paying them a sinlge satang more.

I went up to my farang friends house on same mubaan yesterday (he's about 250 metres nearer to the 'new lines and boxes' on main road). He's on an old TOT deal 490 baht 1MB. I ran tests (4.30PM) and his line attenuation is down at 0.9 and 1.2 and SNR is ok at 30 and 21. His local to BKK is 0.94MB DL and 0.43 UL !! (ping 50ms)) that is a big percentage, and ratio wise: better than any Maxnet user Indy or Premier I have seen on this thread. His speeds to US to Frisco, Las Veggie, Washington are around 0.45 DL 0.22 UL. His page loads from U.S. are 3 to 5 times quicker than my indy and my fave websites instant access and connectivity smooth. So: me thinks with 3 times the DL compared to my freinds connection that I will go for on TOT, I should be ok even with that extra 250 metres don't you think? (well fingers crossed). I also think that whilst TOT does have its problems, it is nothing in comparison to Maxnet for the last 5 weeks with no resolution on the horizon also.

I reckon Maxnet have just given up you know ...and if people cancel so be it ...as other posters have pointed out, most Thais are probably happy/unaware that its shoddy, and happy to pay. It's Thailand:the vast majority of their custom is from Thais. I don't think Maxnet is actually that bothered about losing a few farang here and there (especially given their present situation of 'takeover')

I'm gone and 'voting with my feet' too: TOT same deal, same price 3MB/512 590+vat.

Oh, and for those people going to their TT&T office and being told 'no refunds' etc., just point them to this thread ...me and a couple of others on this thread have had refunds. Like I said before (somwhere in this long thread) go with your evidence of line downs, speed tests, 1103 calls, E-mails sent, engineer visits etc. ....they have to back down, but be patient in the process too.

Finally, just for the 'cheapskate bashers' too: Yes, its mainly an INDY problem but if you care to read all 200 odd posts on this thread you will find many PREMIER customers that are less than satisfied also. Upgrade at your peril or switch ISP and hope LOL.

Well, it no good ,nope …2 weeks has gone …and six days more on top. How much longer do we have to wait for Mr. Max to sort it out?

TOT tells me 'Dee slaam wang' now so I'm gonna try em at the end of this month. Some may say "oh no TOT, don't do it!' but I cannot and will not put up with the 'Maxexcrement experience' much longer. Where I live, it's TTT or TOT …Mmm LOL and God help me !

I just got one of their generic E-mails back 2 nights ago, but not to the next 2 I sent them to say connection has gone totally toilet again. I've had this same E-mail back 8 times this year at various points. I personally like the word they use 'exceptional' …me thinks it is not !!!

Sent Maxnet and E-mail at 8.10PM to say 'still not satisfactory', then 8.22 PM lost my connectivity inter. and Thai webs slow again.

Coincidence?? probably, but anyone had a 'sudden drop' too at this time 8.22PM

Wow ..my connection is 'half fixed' as of last night. When I say half fixed, that is because 'my fave site in US' is now accessable any time of day ...but my 2nd fave isn't.

Also, Thai web site load times have speeded up a bit also.

I really do think they have been doing some 'port blocking'/ 'specific website blocking'. I am no teccy but it all seems a bit fishy to me. Are they now in the 'process' of unravelling this mess? Let's hope so.

Just for those teccy's out there and recent Snr's etc. Mine are good and have been all through this 'problem period' ..thus I don't think that it is the 'problem' for many that we seem to be facing ....skullduggery at the big HQ ! We can all keep looking for the answers, but the answers lie with our beloved provider.

Conclusion:

The only way for me in Pattaya to get a working Internet-connection is to sit at my sofa, gather at the wall and wait that "Maxcrement" will fix the problem in 2 weeks, or 2 month, or 2 years or later.
