You do not have any income from England?? If you have, you can get a letter of confirmation of income from your embassy,, and as you are having 400k in the bank already,, you need another 400k (33.500 baht/month) in income to cover the whole extension of stay based on Retirement.

So if you can´t present an own bank-account with 800.000K,, or you do not have any income,,, I guess you have to buy a new Non immigrfant O-VISA in England. Prepare a bank-account in Thailand in your name with 800.000 baht in it,,, and during the last 30 days of your entry in that Non Immigrant O-VISA,,, you go to immigration and apply for a new extension of stay...

    Glegolo

Or you could just fly in and start the whole process here, making sure you have the required amount seasoned.First of all, have a chat with your Immi officer, they have been known to bend the rules,at least you will know where you stand.

An extension of your permission to stay in the Kingdom on the grounds of marriage to a

Thai national. More commonly referred to as a marriage extension and easier to remember......

The other common one is an extension of your permission to stay in the Kingdom on the

grounds of retirement, more commonly referred to as a retirement extension.

Sadly to my constant dismay both terms are often misused and ignored to the point of

causing utter chaos to people trying to glean info here on TV.

I thank you for trying to get it right, cheers.

Fair enough, but when Immigration officers call the 2 extentions of stay Married and Retirement visa, where does that leave us.Common usage has taken over from the correct terms.Immigration has found it easier to refer to the extentions as Married and Retirement, easier for us and them.

I have one, and , yes it is useful. Don't need Certificate of residence any more etc. Get Thai price access to tourist sites,

Can use it when booking into hotels etc etc .

as for travel, I don't think it can be used in place of a passport for travel etc. And I doubt you'll get free travel pass to Laos with it.

Do tourist sites include national parks?

Then I ask for a simple certificate of resident, and also refused.
I am in a serious trouble, because waiting for buy a car and new motorbike.

Now I feel pretty angry. Don't know the next step. Because I know I am in the right way.

    Thanks detonian

Yes, I agree with the OP wholeheartedly, westerners married to a Thai girl should not have to put up with all this hoop jumping, even the marriage extensions and all the hassle involved and the 90 day reporting is outrageous.

This carry on with immi is all there for a reason. The previos rorts that went on for decades that made some visas a joke.Slowly they are closing the loopholes but the quick in out money trick still seems to be going strong down by the sea shore.

Really sorry that your shipment came by DHL. We do a lot of small shipments of electronics from USA and UK, but mostly from USA. From my experience over the past couple of years, I can tell you that DHL is almost always a complete and total pain the backside when it comes to their clearance procedures.

Just last week, I ordered something from USA, for our business and to our business address. I ended up paying the all-in charge for shipping and clearance services, including duties. This is the Global Shipping Service that Suradit mentioned above. Unfortunately, some shippers require this, but I didn't find it to be much more expensive that shipping + duties and VAT.

After arriving at BKK, we had to send two different stacks of paperwork over to DHL and they even wanted my original passport, which of course I refused to send to them as they said they needed it for two days! They also mentioned additional fees, although I had a receipt from the vendor and the global shipping service clearly stating that all fees were prepaid. One week and about fifty pieces of signed paper later, they delivered.  This is not the first time we have had major bureaucratic delays with DHL.

With Fedex for exactly the same type and value of product, we receive a notification by email, sign one piece of paper and email it back and our package is delivered the next day. That also states the amount of duty and VAT. If we need to pay those, their delivery person collects it we have our package.

Maybe I have just had bad luck with DHL, but I always avoid them if at all possible.

I admit i don't know much about this but can you inform your suppliers that if DHL are used you will not accept the goods.Get DHL on some sort of blacklist.

Customs has been scrutinizing every package lately.

HiMedia sent me a Q10 for evaluation via DHL. DHL called me and said they wanted 3000 baht. They said customs valued the TV Box at 6000 THB and charged 1000B penalty for undervaluing the item.

I told DHL that there is no duty on a TV box  and I did not value the item, the sender did.

I was told they still wanted 2000 THB for customs and VAT + the 1000 THB penalty.

I told them to send the item back to the sender.

I contacted HiMedia and they sent another Q10 via the post. Customs charged me 580 THB for the second unit.

I was sent a Zidoo X9S which is cheaper than the Q10. It was sent via the post and was charged 728 THB

I received 2 Minix wireless keyboards they went right through. No duty no VAT.

I have a Z28 in route. This is a 2000 THB unit that should arrive tomorrow.  I am waiting to see what customs will do with this one.

Bottomline, I think customs is looking at every package that has a falang name on it.

Your last sentence coukd be an urban myth, but we will never know. That's why the missus name goes on it,no probs so far.

That is correct... go home get an OA non immigrant visa... multi entry..  at the end of first year do a border run before the visa runs out and get another year (no entries.. you have to buy one if you want to make a trip in the 2nd year)..  I have been doing this for years... no money in Thailand..  or.. you can get an extension if your income (pension) is at least 60,000 Bt.... 40,0000 if you are married..

You don't have to get a multi when you get the OA.Just a single before you go out.

No. I've been in this situation and asked people on this forum and got replies that I needed a termination letter, which I couldn't get. The reality was a lot more simple. You simply go to the work permit office and fill in a form, hand it to them and that's it. You're now free to get a new work permit. No need for any letter. I asked immigration what I should do if I have no letter and then said cancel the work permit yourself and then come to us.

That is the right place to go for info, you local immi office or Ubon Joe.

The term Marriage Visa confuses many because there is actually no such Visa.

As the OP stated it was obtained from Lao, then he certainly has a Non Imm O Multi entry Visa based on marriage to a Thai.

Local Immigration offices only issue extensions of stay based on marriage, not Visas.

Your assumption that he therefore has to make 90 day border runs is correct and as already mentioned he is being hassled because Immigration cannot figure how he is supporting himself without working at such a young age.

The thing is being married to a Thai allows you the right to work.

If you have a work permit.

You would not have to leave the country. The extension would remain valid until it expires. Plenty of time normally to change to retirement or another type of extension.

Only one time out of 9 extension have I had to get a document from the house I didn't have with me. That happened when they had a major staff change. I really cannot see how they could come up with something more than I ready supply now.

They must joke when they see you coming Joe.You can't do this farang over,he knows everything.

I was doing the Visa extension, based on a marriage for 2 years without any problems.
But the 3rd time I was doing a Visa Extension, the Immigration Officer took my wife to an other room for a PRIVATE interview.
When finished the private interview, the officer told me that the extension was denied on grounds of "not offering enough support to my wife and her family".
She told me to discuss this again with my wife and agree a "support" sum before applying again.

I took my passport and went the next day for a change from "Married" visa to "Retirement" visa.
    This was 12 years ago.

Since that day, I go to immigration every year to extend my Retirement Visa and spend about 30 minutes for the extension without being blackmailed.

That's a bit rude.Where was this. You still with poor wife?

Are you serious, or are you pulling my leg?

I've managed a business in Thailand, employing 60 people in a factory, as well as finance and admin, customer service and sales. What are your credentials?

A small minority of the Thai workforce as a whole - supervisory, managerial and professional staff - get paid a great deal more than 300 Baht BUT we are not talking about such people when we talk about people who fill in forms. They are rank and file, who make up the majority of the Thai workforce, and they do get paid 300 Baht as an entry level. Hence, since I was referring to a group, it was a reasonable statement of fact to say that such people get wages of 300 Baht. So, I wasn't 'insinuating' anything, I was stating it.

On to your next point, that a business needs to make a profit, this is indeed true BUT gross margin for contracted temporary labour is no more than around the 100% mark (which leaves around 75% after SG&A). In this case, however, the gross margin is:

Assuming it takes a very generous 5 minutes to fill in a form,

    * That's 12 forms per hour, lets call it 10 forms to allow for down time

    * The revenue per hour would be 10 x 200 = 2,000 Baht

    * The labour cost for that hour would be 300 Baht per day divided by 8 hours worked = 37.5 Baht

    * The gross margin would therefore be (2000/37.5) x 100 = 5,333% an ENORMOUS profit by any measure and one that is impossible to justify when the same service costs 10 Baht at the land transport department (because it actually takes a lot less that 5 minutes to fill in a form.

In what way does a 5,333% gross margin on a form filling service, which is secondary to the main revenue earner (the Re-entry Permit) seem reasonable to you?

Your figures are based on farangs queueing up out the door, for 8 hours. This is not the case. What if nobody comes in that 8 hours.Somebody is down 300 baht.

myself, I am going to do a  3-week trip to visit my girlfriend by June this year. Then by October, I will again enter Thailand for a four month stay.

I am on a One-Year permit of stay on retirement purposes.  During my last extension in January, I wanted to save money and left the extension procedure with an only single re-entry permit.  So if I want to keep my extension live, i will have to buy another re-entry permit before I leave Thailand in June.

I got two choices:  Buy the re-rentry permit at the airport and pay 2100 THB, or do a 140 Kilometer trip by my own car to visit Sisaket Immigration, for a re-entry permit stamp at 1900 THB.

I guess you don't ask me why & which option I will choose to be the better one

What about when your gf has to report you living with her within 24 hours or you have to report yourself. You can go with her and do re entry then.
