Not sure as I don't need to do them. You also need to make sure that these rentals actually do include the electric because you can run big bills up here running air con continually. Also the locations as you will need to be near the BTS or rely on Taxis. The closer to the BTS, the more the rent though. You also need to arrange some medical insurance. Travel insurance will not cover you over 60 days normally. It's easy to have an accident or get sick here and have a 1 million BHT plus hospital bill as many have found out.

You can get travel insurance with Bupa in Oz for about $1k.

The reason for my post is I'm seeing if I could stretch it out further if possible... I'd ideally like to stay much longer, but if that's the case I might have to settle for 9 months :(

If you don't drink in expensive farang orientated bars, womanize too much, you could stretch that to 2 years. You could live a couple of hours out of Bangers and upgrade you accommodation and lifestyle.

Ridiculous. Comparing a limo to a taxi. Camry with great space, polite driver, passenger airbags, seatbelts not stuffed below the seat, driver that doesn't smell bad and won't try to dump you out if traffic is bad. Who would pay more for comfort and safety? A lot of people that don't care about "flash".

Some of us also fly business class, is that all about flash? Only for those that can't or won't pay for the comfort so they can criticize those that are willing to pay.

BTW, I actually prefer GrabCar Premium to Uber. It is literally the same cars and drivers (most work for both companies) and has much better availability and a better app...only difference is GC is cash only. I suppose both are equally "flash" blink.png [as crazy as is sounds for calling a Camry flash -- I mean, it's freakin' Camry, not exactly a Rolls]

Personally, I find GrabCar premium prices around BKK so cheap that it's embarrassing, so I normally give them a big tip, but I guess I am lacking in brains and am all about flash. I mean, really, 30-40 minutes of a US$50K+ car with driver, cost maybe US$5...how

    absurdly expensive!

Airport prices not such a good deal, but the schmucks at the AOT counter and the guy begging for a tip when taking you to the car get on my nerves...so I would still take GrabCar from swampy if it were available

All that you said about taxis is not true, fake story, alternative story.

All Uber rides to and from the airport are a set 1000 Baht fee. It has always been this way. I always grab an Uber; I mean come on, 18 quid for a safe ride to the airport in a brand new sedan with a decent driver whose taxi doesn't stink, is serviced and MOT'd and has a driving licence. A no brainer, as they say.

I have never been in a smelly Taxi. You pay your 1k,i'll pay my 350 baht.

The biggest blunder. She does not even know that MFA for visa, Immigration for admitting people into the country.

Or they plan to change that too. Whenever I read such news I get more confused and worried.

Every bar owner will tell you that tourism is going downhill, so where are her 32Mio visitors?

The golden years of bars is over.Chinese and Indians don't go and even if they did it will be 1 bottle 3 straws. There is more to tourism than bars.

I have a fifteen year old nephew. He plays the flute and is a pupil in a Bangkok music school. It's no easy ride. Most days he does not leave the school till late evening. The school concentrates more on music than academia. I've wondered what his chances are of making a living playing a flute. Not very good I suspect. He plays in the school orchestra and loves it. He will have to face the real world one day and earn a living. Playing his flute? I hope so. Meanwhile he is doing something he loves. I'm proud of him.

As long as you support him of course he will love playing the flute all day.Withdraw support and let reality step in and see what happens.Expect to get serenaded at the dinner table every night.

Yes, I have heard that a few times, their stupid parents will be teaching their ten year olds to ride their motorbikes, then will hand them the keys to it, and your kids will want to know why you are not, and you will be the bad one, I sympathise with you, and there is no easy answer.

No is the answer.Being a parent is not easy.

C'mon guy's/ladies,lighten up.Cant you see that this guy is a naturally funny man. He's pulling your legs. If you cant see that, then you have no sense of humour. Do you seriously believe that anybody would put up with such behaviour from his wife? Do you seriously believe most of the things he said in his post. But even if you cant see the funny side, why all the jokes about medication and leaving home etc.I would love to see this guy do stand up,or open mike comedy.I bet he's got loads of material.I like him.

Don't you believe it comrade. Many farangs come here to live the dream and through bad choices of their own making are now living on a pittance, hence the lao khao. They are stuck with their lousy choices,ie building mansions for 2 people in a back of beyond village.Between a rock and a hard place.

Yes, also remove the bahtbus totally, for BKK at least. They hold up traffic and just do what pleases them...driving very slow on the fast lanes, not using indicators, cutting other drivers off.

We need good new buses and busstops..And real police who keeps the busstops clean from parked cars.

Actually non corruption killed that one.

My confusion started because I read too much information.

Sites like Siam Legal state you need a Thai bank account etc. The Embassy says otherwise.

i only live a few miles from the Consulate in Hull so it's a quick trip in the near future to talk with them and then probably by post to London with the documents.

We tick all of the boxes for an O-A but will apply separately as its a bit of an insult for the wife to have an O while mine is an O-A. Singaporean women are very equality conscious.

It's a year or so off but there is a lot to plan and do so I like to have all of the information as soon as possible.

I appreciate all of your comments. It's often better from the horses mouth than a lawyer.

    Tony

You are not getting your OA from Siam Legal. You are getting it from a Thai Embassy,so this is the web site you read.Follow the steps and it's easy.If in doubt, ring them.
