  1. I suspect that there is more truth in what you say than I am comfortable with. The legal system seems to be designed to punish the poor and to give the rich and powerful a pass. I had someone very close to me who spent a year in jail for a crime he did not commit. Even though he was no threat, his bail was set way beyond his means. When it finally went to trial, the main witness retracted the statement. The judge ruled that the charges be dropped and any reference to the 'crime' be expunged from all documents associated with his name. Even with a solid alibi and no credible witnesses, a year of a person's life was destroyed. His children were placed in foster care, he lost his job, his house, his vehicle. Meanwhile, we have people like Trump, so clearly guilty of so much, and he walks free and a 'Special' counsel has to spend an inordinate amount of time and money to protect his rights.
  2. Practicing physicians are not scientists. They do not conduct research. Researchers were quick to find the link between lung cancer and smoking. I remember the advertisements well. I also remember that they only recommend a particular brand and they were paid for it. As I recall, they usually said "If you smoke...." Any credible physician is going to tell the truth or say nothing at all. It's a pretty routine job of giving physicals for employment.
  3. I don't think anyone is denying that oil has many uses. I think the point is we need to greatly minimize its use as a source of fuel. Coal also has a lot of uses besides burning it.
  4. They are a little like the people who mixed the Kool-Aid and ushered people into line to drink it for Jim Jones. They are among the most dishonest of dishonest. They have betrayed the most sacred trust given to people in the field of journalism.
  5. Good for you. I hope you do well. As far as 'the woke world ' being deranged, I don't think so. They do nothing that hurts you, unless you are a bit of a snowflake. So which of these groups is a threat to you: Blacks? Latinos? Gays? Trans? I suspect none, but the guy who walks into a shopping mall with an AR-15 does pose a real threat.
  6. Any sadness I have is for a society that can allow a young person's thinking to go so far astray and then allow him to have a gun. Those assault-style guns need to be outlawed.
  7. I have a small stock portfolio. I am what I would consider as 'medium' woke. I live around a lot of very not woke people. I don't try to change them; I seldom argue with them but I do point out where they are wrong and then drop it. When it comes to my portfolio, I specifically do not allow certain investments, primarily gun manufacturers. Other than that, I let the fund manager have free rein.
  8. This guy was looking pretty contrite, bordering on cowardly, during the sentencing. He's going to have a lifetime in a prison that has a disproportionate number of Blacks. He may very well be getting the death penalty just by getting a life sentence.
  9. I think competency should be lowered to anyone over 26 and should include a full psychological work up, and it should be done before they get their name on any ballot.
  10. Oh, they are empty? Nope. Actually, pretty much everything is available and getting better.
  11. Well, when all else fails, resort to trolling. Did I say 4 years? I think not.
  12. If Russia wants to make the US nervous, all they have to do is release balloons from those nuclear-armed ships.
  13. These right-wingers have an abnormal interest in drag queens, transsexuals and gays. It seems that research shows, they are the ones spending the most time viewing it on sites like pornhub: Data Finds Republicans are Obsessed with Searching for Transgender Porn Closet Cases – Republicans secretly love what they publicly hate So far in 2022, more than 300 anti-LGBT bills have been proposed across 36 states – at least one third of which are directed at trans youth. This surge, especially in anti-trans legislation from Republicans, stands in stark contrast to a startling fact. Republicans love transgender porn, A LOT. With more than 4.7 Million transgender porn related Google searches each month (per Ahrefs.com), do Republicans represent those searching most? The answer seems to be a clear YES. https://lawsuit.org/general-law/republicans-have-an-obsession-with-transgender-pornography/ The red state gay porn habit: Why conservative states like Mississippi and North Carolina lead the nation in same-sex porn consumption Mississippi and North Carolina recently passed some of the harshest laws in the nation targeting the LGBT community. As statistics from PornHub show, congressmen might be legislating against queer and trans people, but their constituencies sure do love to watch them have sex. https://www.salon.com/2016/05/21/the_red_state_gay_porn_habit_why_conservative_states_like_mississippi_and_north_carolina_lead_the_nation_in_same_sex_porn_consumption/ Data Finds Republican States Are ‘Obsessed’ With Searching For Transgender Porn While Voting Against Trans Rights According to the Human Rights Campaign, more than 300 anti-LGBTQ+ bills have been introduced this year, 2022 — many of which directly and implicity attack the transgender community. These laws have prodominently been introduced in states dominated by Republican influence and show an increasingly aggresive dismantling of years of progress toward equality for all LGBTQ+ folk. Despite the clear hatred towards the queer and transgender communities that Republicans show on the surface, https://www.yourtango.com/news/data-shows-republicans-search-transgender-porn-high-volumes
  14. Well, for one thing, you can get things you need. Under Trump, the grocery store shelves were empty. No toilet paper to be had at any price. The only thing that wasn't in short supply was silly tweets from the Conman-in-Chief.
  15. As much as I think he should testify, I think one of the main reasons is to somehow protect the Executive Branch. It seems like all Presidents and VPs refuse to answer subpoenas and to testify unless forced to.
  16. So, this is a guy who pretends to be all patriotic and wants to exercise his 'rights' by denying others theirs. It turns out that like his fellow 'patriots', he's nothing more than a common criminal and a trafficker.
  17. Oh and here's another one of your good Republican legislators: Photo from https://www.cnn.com/2023/01/20/politics/george-santos-drag-queen-claim-brazil/index.html
  18. Drag queen says Kari Lake was one of his biggest fans before campaign PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) — Kari Lake is one of the leading Republicans running for Arizona governor and has been highly critical of men dressing up as women in drag to perform on stage. Now one of the Valley’s premier drag queens says Lake was a close friend and one of his biggest fans before launching her campaign. Richard Stevens, who’s known on stage as “Barbra Seville” said he has known Lake for 20 years and was shocked and personally hurt when she decided to target drag queens as part of her campaign. Lake said drag queens pose a danger to children. “I was very thoughtful with my wording. I didn’t want to refer to her in a derogatory way. https://www.kold.com/2022/06/21/drag-queen-says-kari-lake-was-one-his-biggest-fans-before-campaign/ Here's a photo: https://www.azcentral.com/story/news/politics/arizona/2022/06/28/kari-lake-pushes-back-drag-queen-cease-and-desist-letter/7748750001/
  19. My guess is that all those people who seem to take such an inordinate interest in drag queens are not good parents. Are kids forced to go to drag shows? Are there even drag shows for kids? Drag shows are a form of entertainment. If you don't want your kids to attend, then don't take them.
  20. Probably worth actually looking at the truth about what Biden inherited: https://www.bbc.com/news/59402975
  21. Yes, it should, but most 5-year-olds can't really read and would have no interest in it. So do you think Mein Kampf should be allowed?
  22. And you think this book should be banned from schools, but yet Mein Kampf is available at both the local library and the school library. For purists, it's even available in the original language. So, the autobiography of Hitler is 'educational' but that of a transgender person is dangerous?
  23. So, the fact that they aren't allowed in libraries -- and in at least one state, not even in public libraries-- wouldn't constitute a ban? Sorry, but that's a ban. Quit trying to change the definition. None of those books are required reading and should certainly be available in a library. Not everyone wishes to buy books. That's why libraries exist. Again with abortion, the limitation is unrealistic and it is a national ban. And some people are born one sex and want to be another. Did you have a point? If you don't like it, does that mean everyone else has to dislike it as well? The book is based on a true story.
