OPINION: When will Republican voters wake up to their own oppression?
Credo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Most of my family are staunch conservatives. They are from rural areas and are accustomed to being very independent and for neighbors to help neighbors. They rely on one another much more than they do on the government. They are pretty accepting of differences, but that does not extend to anyone outside their community. Most are compassionate, caring people. The difference starts to become stark with those that are Trump cultists. They generally are a lot less compassionate or caring. They are judgmental and consider their 'community' to only include other Trump followers. I totally don't understand their mentality. They have no trouble getting food stamps, welfare and SSI payments, but don't want anyone else to get it. They are entitled, others are not.- 105 replies

Ex-press secretary: Trump wanted to fire usher for helping Bidens move in

Intent is most certainly a criminal offense. Even if you don't kill someone, if they can show you intended to do so, you are charged. -
He must have graduated from the Bernie Madoff University.

Lula sworn in as Brazil president as Bolsonaro flies to US

I see that Balsonaro didn't stay for the inauguration. He was headed to the US. I wonder if he was going to Mar-a-lago? -
His taxes are mildly titillating, but not particularly revealing. I don't think there is a 'gotcha' moment anywhere in them, and it will take a long time and some very expert professionals to unpack them. If there are irregularities, the IRS will want their money plus interest and penalties. They aren't likely to pursue fraud unless they find something big and intentional. No, the 'gotcha' moment lies with the stolen documents at his residence.

Covid in China: WHO calls on Beijing to strengthen its response
Credo replied to Scott's topic in World News
There are several problems with China's current stand on Covid. It was probably not the best thing to go from Zero Covid and strict lockdowns to what they are now doing. They have not been forthcoming about the death rate, and little is known about what variants are circulating. They are doing themselves no favors, and certainly not the Chinese people who will be traveling. -
You may be right about it being too early to tell, but all the countries are facing the same challenges with Covid, supply chain issues and the energy related issues.

Federal prosecutors are investigating Rep.-elect George Santos’ finances
Credo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Is anything true? He lied about his personal life, his family background, his religion, his ethnicity. He lied about his educational background, his professional background his work history and now it appears he lied about his wealth. -
How can you say that? George Santos says he's Jew-ish!

Tesla stock has plummeted since Elon Musk took over Twitter. Here's why.
Credo replied to Scott's topic in World News
The route on Tesla stocks continues. I think most of the pundits believe it has been overvalued for a long time. Tesla was no doubt a leader in the EV market and has had many innovations, but it has a small selection of vehicles, and it faces stiff competition from the mainstream manufactures. The Tesla brand is tightly intertwined with brand Musk. Right now Brand Musk is not a good fit for Tesla. He also has backed away from managing the company, also not a good sign. -
Zero Covid: China proved it has control. Governance is harder.
Credo replied to Scott's topic in World News
Lockdowns work only to stop the spread for the time. They can't eliminate the virus. When they are used, they have to be relatively short and followed up with a strong vaccination program and other mitigation efforts. They did not do a good job of controlling either the people or the virus. -
Supreme Court says Trump-era border restriction will remain in effect while legal challenges play out The Supreme Court said Tuesday that the controversial Trump-era border restriction known as Title 42 will remain in effect while legal challenges play out, a move that ensures that federal officials will be able to continue to swiftly expel migrants at US borders at least for the next several months. The 5-4 order is a victory for Republican-led states that urged the Supreme Court to step in and block a lower court opinion that ordered the termination of the authority. The Biden administration has said it was prepared for the authority to end and had put in place precautions to guard against confusion at the border and any potential surge of migrants. https://www.cnn.com/2022/12/27/politics/supreme-court-title-42/index.html

Lying on a resume can land you in a lawsuit. You certainly can be sued for lying as long as the person or organization can show harm. I suspect his opponent could do that. The school he said he graduated from could also do it -- but I don't know what damage they would have. The same for the companies he said he worked for. His resume goes well beyond misrepresentation. He's lied about his ethnic/religious background, his wealth, his work, his education and arguably about his sexuality. Is his birthday correct?

I'd be a little nervous in a driverless car, but less so in a self-driving car with a driver. My car has a lot of safety features, including adaptive cruise and Lane Departure warning. I've become very reliant on those safety features.
