This ineffective and unnecessary lock in business needs to be ended now. This cure is far worse than the disease for many millions of people world wide..
9 more cases today in a country of 70 million and they want to extend for one more month!
Cases of suicide will outnumber deaths from the virus.

Simple really.
It's not about the water dispensers, it's about the backhanders.
They sit about all day trying to find ways of ripping off the budget.
Committee to decide where they should be located, bids for the containers, maintenance of said containers, transport and staff to keep them filled, press conference and publicity to announce the initiative. Letters to 20 richest families begging for their support to make the service more widely available......

"Let's make the medics debt interest rates lower."
Why don't you pay them enough so that they don't need to be in debt in the first place?
Wish I could be paid so much in the UK I could avoid debt!
But people borrow to finance a car. To live while they get their degree... and when they want a mortgage for a house then they are really in debt. But they are not paying the same rates as here.
It can be in the interest of the bosses to have employees in debt and susceptible to bending the rules. It is the game. They want their employees to borrow money to look good, and to be pliable.
When the workers want smaller amounts moneylenders persuade them 3% a month is a good long term loan. It is compared to 10% a month.

Lower interest rates for everyone. Thai rates for loans are far too high by international standards benefitting some of the 20 richest who are now being asked to help with ideas.
Less businesses would need to ask for assistance or to sack their staff if they were repaying more reasonable amounts.
Just more attention seeking. Virtue signaling to people in food queues.

There were many published papers on doing exactly this with viruses - aka "gain of function" research. One justification was to create vaccine carriers. Another was just to understand the processes that allow virus mutations lead to zoological transfer (from one species to another).
This research was banned in the USA after a particularly disturbing paper, explaining how some scientists had taken H5N1 (aka "bird flu" - mortality rate 60%) and modified it + passed it through ferrets (which share a key-receptor with humans) to become person-to-person transmissible in humans.
Other published research involved similar with "bat" corona viruses, with 2 of the scientists whose work on this (published) had to stop work in the USA (due to the ban) - later continuing it at the Wuhan lab.Wow! I hope to see follow up to this.

This explains a lot, and no, Joshua Wong is not due a clip around the ear because we have something called freedom of speech in this world. Do you have a problem with freedom of speech?
I would rather have the enquiring minds and bravery of Joshua Wong and his like than the communist juggernaut of conformity that is China.

Don't think I will be going to any open malls any time soon after they open.
Large areas of these malls were quite uncrowded before. The busier shops were the supermarkets and fast food takeaways which have been open anyway.
47 dead, as I write. Millions worried about how their lives can be put back together again.

Possibly planning a large home fit for a king in the centre of Bangkok. Might upset a lot of people, especially when a lot of people feel they are not doing very well.

We often have stats pushed about the % of domestic violence incidents that involve alcohol as a reason for making alcohol the villan and I am not denying it is a factor. But by way of balance, does anyone have any stats on the % of alcohol consumption incidents that result in no domestic violence or any violence? We a need perspective.
Good game! How many cases of domestic violence were preceded by relatives visits or changing channel on the television.

No need to stop at 20 names. Demand rich people pay their proper taxes and you will not need to request charity from them! Panama papers.
'Names of 1,413 persons with Thai addresses have been identified with links to offshore companies in one of the world’s biggest ever data leaks.'
The Panama papers found many Thai familiar names as seen on the website offshoreleaks.icij.org
This was from 2016. No doubt some new folks with uniforms since then, some even benefitting from Army Welfare housing.

Alcohol is a prime trigger for domestic violence and now that people are having to spend much time with family violence already increases. Alcohol only adds to that. So many examples of alcohol turning people violent.
Lockdown is a prime trigger for domestic violence. A couple of beers at the end of the day may help keep people relaxed.
Throughout history, in most societies, people have looked for something.
Toadstools, chemicals, licking the backs of toads, lao kao......beer is easily measured, safely made and people who drink it are not the same thing as violent alcoholics.

According to the budget for this year 30 billion baht was given to a certain family , thats all that matters and not the minions at the the bottom of the pyramid .
Yup, doesn't that crown it all!
'Thailand plans public-private partnership (PPP) projects worth 1.09 trillion baht during 2020-2027, the finance ministry said on Wednesday, as the government tries to revive the struggling economy amid the coronavirus pandemic.'
And maybe can only pay the surprisingly few people found eligible for one months payment before the money starts running out.......
Obviously the 'chosen' people here do not believe in karma.
They've been right so far.

Indeed. Be nice to see farang visibly helping out in times like this. T**ts like Anutin do not speak for them all... most are just normal people. At the least, it would help to improve the image of foreigners there right now.
I know of some who are doing this already.
I hope they are seen by the goldshop owner who put this on the door of their business today - 'NO TOURIST.'

Bringing thai's back from any country with covid would be the biggest mistake made now, everything that has been done to prevent the spread up to now could be a waste of time and efforts. The way it is,is the way it is and hard decisions have to be made to stop this outbreak.
Would make imminent arrival from Zurich a bit problematical?

Just looking on facebook you can see there is a serious problem in the near future, people can't pay rent or buy food
when they can't top up the phone or buy noodle soup from Seven it'll be bad.
So many borrow money every month from Mr. 10% too. How much sympathy will they from him get after a week or two of non payments?

Actually second most, the US has surged to the lead. Hopefully They treat them all as carriers and contain the hazard. But experience suggests they will screw it up again. I mean someone in charge who got their promotion by cash or family influence rather than competence, what could go wrong. Yep we are screwed.

Important flight due in from Germany early next month. Passengers from hotel with virus reports.
Let's hope all will undergo voluntary self isolation as an example of responsible behavior.

Ever had a traditional massage? I don't think so.
There are many respectable ladies trying to make a difficult living who hate the reputation, and sometimes expectations, that goes with this job. Give them a break and cut the sniggers.
Why so many staff come along to tell them they should be closed? No work to do? Why have photo opps with masks on? Why none of the government staff know about regulations about distancing? Photographer getting them all in the frame more important than understanding of the 'crime' they have prevented!
Sad times.

COVID-19 will bankrupt more people that it kills.
Looks like it. Virus killed (number?).
Fight against virus ends many businesses, even more hopes, left thousands in debt, many run away in the night to avoid moneylenders, depression and suicides, relationships in 28 sq. m. apartments with the family under lockdown conditions breaking down and no money....
At least they can be happy their man in Germany is being looked after even better this year in the budget and might drop by next month to wave a bit.

I am sure we all feel sorry for them but there is really no choice.
Very few "working girls" seem to have the ability to save even if on 50,000 Bht a month
I do know, we employed 40 of them & only 5 even had bank accounts.
Easy to say the Govt got that wrong but what do you suggest, end up like Italy,,,,,,
which they still could if no one gives a s,,,t
Imagine being caught in India ay this time.
For those of you who do not check the news "total lockdown"
VAST numbers with no money & a Police Force that will shoot
When the 'caring' nations are paying back for the current social welfare needs with debased currencies in the future the rich families of the countries that let their citizens sink or swim will be well placed.
I remember 77 baht = 1 pound.

It does seem a bit early for you to be in trouble ,,, you must have been highly negative geared.
Nevertheless get along to your bank just as soon as possible & put ALL your cards on the table.
The bank does not want your house or your business & has enough problems without repossession at this time. Your restaurant could be closed for 4 months & another month to pick up steam so you need a 6 month solution.
Good Luck
Thank you for your concern
Longer low seasons and less busy high seasons have not left much in the bank even before this issue. few places open now and still getting less than 500 baht most days this week! Staff and bills to pay.
It is hard to see any recovery this year.
Have been told if we actually close then staff will be entitled to 5000 baht a month. Bank have said they will be in touch. I hope they are so busy with similar requests that they will have some kind of policy rather than treating us as an individual problem.

"Thai banks have offered companies hit by the novel coronavirus more time to repay loans.
The debt-relief package, announced by the Thai Bankers' Association.... offers a yearlong grace period on loan repayments by banks covering companies in the tourism sector" Asian Review March 04, 2020
Very welcome if true and my if my bank manager knows about it. If he does not what next?
My house is the security for a loan for a tourist restaurant and I am tempted to tell the bank I can not pay this month, or any month for some time.
I think Thai banks will soon be overwhelmed by closed businesses and defaults on payments for houses and condos.
If they take my house due to non-payment how long before eviction? What if I tell them I understand it is now their property but would they be interested in renting it to me?

The police are welcome to apply the laws about driving unsafely. I wish they would.
There is no need to punish people who enjoy a beer at home at all.
Some peoples attitudes seem very extreme and intolerant these days.
I am hoping an announcement will be made that home deliveries can be allowed as well as buying from shops, though bars and large social gatherings remain not allowed.
