Cashless Thai society not on the cards anytime soon, says study
greeneking replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
I went to a new fashionable cafe, which was really a resturaunt. It even had charging points in the car park for electric cars close to where I parked my bike. There was no menu, but a QR code on the table number. I saw cash was not accepted. It was all so modern I could not order or pay. I use a tablet when I want it, but do not take it with me when I go out. How is this all better? -

I am speechless almost... Would anyone involved in this have thought it was a good idea if they had to pay for it with their own money? -
Thailand to Implement 300-Baht Fee for Foreign Arrivals
greeneking replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
'Chote said the fund will be used to develop tourist sites........' Why can't the Thais who benefit from tourism do this from their own self interest? I don't believe it. And Bangkok is also after another tax from tourists to maintain the wonders of this beautiful and fascinating city. Unwise to make a failing business model more expensive for the remaining users. -

Prachuap steps up fight against corruption
greeneking replied to webfact's topic in Hua Hin and Cha-Am News
'Self-Sufficiency Against Corruption was formally opened by the Office of the National Counter Corruption Commission (NACC) in Prachuap Khiri Khan.' I hope visitors will ask why this office seems to do very little work and wonder why they should put their necks on the line while the experts avoid making problems for themselves. -

I suggest you search out for the video of the incident. And then apologise. -
Thailand can make these donations because of the belated production of Astra Zeneca from Siam Bioscience? And is this why Pfizer is being returned to France? And yes, Sinovac questions about pricing and commissions paid remain unanswered. Some people have done very well out of all this and the story is murky.

Random check by immigration
greeneking replied to Opossum's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
They had 3 phone numbers and an email address, but 4 of them called at the house a few days after my visa extension application. My wife had to close her shop and return home and call our witness to see if she could do the same with hers. They said they were no longer giving notice of their visit. They could call again in the future if it was not convenient. They said some people had not been honest. I have been honest for 18 years already and patiently give them again the same information they have already collected for each of these years. What a waste of money. -

Any Long-Stayer Ever Been Refused a Visa?
greeneking replied to Neeranam's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Always a worry. 400,000 in the bank for 90 days, though this year they said only need 60 days. And then they wanted a further form about my monthly income too anyway. If I applied a month before that is more time with no access to the money, and then there is one month extension under consideration too. Visit after a few days by Immigration to the house was not after a phone call, but by surprise. Change in policy. Some applicants are not honest apparently so they come not knowing if I am in or not, whether my wife is at work or not, and then we have to find a witness at the last moment who can drop everything and come to the house. If I really was mafia I would find a way to avoid these problems, I'm sure. Nearly 20 year's now telling them the same things every year. -
Thailand to miss out on 600k foreign arrivals target for Nov/Dec

Good result number 1 they stop daily garbage 'Information.' Number 2 good result this forum stops thinking we should be told. Let them feel as pointless as they truly are.
