  1. ... i really cant understand why he would do this!...

Ah, to be sure, I was only having a laugh!

    :D

I think your joking...but if your not and it was you, i'd recommend some health insurance to cover your carry on!

I know you'll need some if i see you again :)

Chill JP...seems like you want to take on the world now?

What I don't get is why he would approach you in the first place. You seem to think he was gay? You are a foreigner in a girlie bar...in a girlie red light area, and he goes for you????? Odd. I don't doubt that it happened....I tend to take things here at face value.....but why look for a gay guy in girlie bars???

I had forgotten about this until i saw it here again......but like you, i don't understand why he approached me,that's what shocked me and maybe the reason

for my reaction....but what he did after that really pissed me off!

I cant tell you what floats his boat, but even the girls thought there was something odd about him!

  2. [ Someone with a pair of balls needs to lead the country and put things in order because at the end of the day its the thai

    people who'll suffer

And that keeps you awake at night right ?

J, you come across as a nice enough guy to me, and I respect your posts, you must know that Thailand ain't gonna change in the forseeable future, will that stop you going to Thailand ?

Farangs are a very fickle lot, I was stopped a few days ago doing 160 kph in a 90 Kph limit road, I was stopped paid the 200 baht fine ( Policemans pocket ) and was away within 60 seconds, all very civilised.

Many Farangs compalin about corruption, but when they are done for excessive speeding whilst pizzsd outta their heads and drive away with a 4 - 500 Baht tea money bribe, I'm quite sure they are more than happy.

PS. This does not apply to ThaiVisa members as I know they are different and never ever break any laws and would rather face the axeman than pay a bribe and walk away.

I have respect for your posts and others too...everyone on this forum has an opinion on whats happening in thailand and have a right to talk about it!

Does it keep me awake at night?....No...but i do worry about it,and it wont stop me going, to me Thailand is a paradise with mostly nice people that i think will be the ones who'll pay for it in the long run!

I don't mind paying the small tea money if im a bad boy,its the big time corruption that bothers me and i couldn't care less if there were no more tourists,

but they are only hurting themself's by discouraging tourism in this way!

  3. Endofdays

Have you not heard?.....no-one wants to talk about it.....ignorance is bliss!

Its true there's corruption in every country, but Thailand has it everywhere, on all levels, and the sad thing is nobody cares!

There is no-one to stop it because most officials from top to bottom are getting their few baht and who is going to say no to some easy cash?

I said it in another tread and i'll say it again.....SOMEONE WITH A PAIR OF BALLS can only stop this!

    I

Acutally, I think it is quite the opposite. Believe me, I a true male chavaunistic pig, but I think poltics, the corruption in Thailand could be best stamped out if you got rid of the the men in power. Same in the Middle-East, the real work is done by the women, in the fields, in the stores, ect. They have the most at stake as mothers. I say, give them a chance to lead, they can't bullock it up as bad as the current male-dominated power regime has. What is the percentage of women in political power? God, I sound like a freakin' liberal puke. But I think Thailand neads strong women, not in the vain of Clinton but more in the vain of Thatcher or a few other female leaders out there. Ok, I need to go look up some sexist jokes to make myself feel better now.

When i said "someone with a pair" i mean someone with the guts (man or woman), who's not afraid to step on some toes and tackle the problem on

all levels....no more ignoring, turning the other cheek and the never mind attitude!

  5. Agree with you on the uncle bit and the "sky is falling" is tiresome but do you not think the problems there might effect you

sooner or later?...could happen to anyone expat or tourist!

So save yourself. Flee now before it's too late!

No need for me to flee,i'm not there, but spend a lot of time there and keep an eye on Thailand through TV because i plan to stop there some day!

Ok...every country has its problems, don't get me wrong,i love LOS,for me the good things out weigh the bad.The only problem i had there (besides the

small scams) was with a farang who tried to cause some trouble, police were involved and found nothing, but it could have been very different!

All the bad news coming out of thailand is reaching every corner of the planet and causing people to look elsewhere for their holiday.....

Tourism down=unemployment=crime...i know tourism is not the only source they have but its a big one and think about how many people work

in the tourism industry in one form or another, how many have lost their jobs or are about to?

The one thing you should be able to rely on when abroad is the police, but sometimes the police are the ones you have to watch...........

i agree if you do wrong you should be punished but some of the things happening there involving the police is crazy!

I really hope Thailand can sort its problems out, its for her own sake! because as far as i can see her problems are like a cancer and if left untreated

they're only going to get worse! Someone with a pair of balls needs to lead the country and put things in order because at the end of the day its the thai

    people who'll suffer

  6. in the link posted by the OP, stickman says "I was on the phone with my favourite uncle the other day who also happens to be a confidante. I was telling him how bad things are and he implored me to get out saying that even from back in New Zealand he could see that the writing was on the wall. And in his words, "You don't want to leave it too late"."

he makes it sound a pyramid or ponzi scheme where the first ones out run off with all the loot and last ones out get left holding the baby.

what a bunch of BS,! for all its problems (non of which personally effect me) , it wouldn't matter if you were the last farang left in Thailand. ok, maybe it would be harder to find good pizza but the sun will still be shining, the girls still cute, the beer cold and life comfortable and fun.

all this 'the sky is falling' BS is so tiresome. if you don't like it here, bugger off

Agree with you on the uncle bit and the "sky is falling" is tiresome but do you not think the problems there might effect you

sooner or later?...could happen to anyone expat or tourist!

  7. i think it must be very difficult to stop what has been going on in this country for a very long time. ie police corruption, scamming, murdering, ect ect i am sure the list will be added to, a very tough job for the goverment IF they want to tackle it. ps bkk barry's post was very true, and well written

Think they need a very firm but fair leader who's not afraid to step on some toes, someone who's not afraid to tackle the big boys and put them in line!

If they want to sort the country they're going to have to start at the top and let the sh*t roll down hill, and with those found at fault heavy punishments

    should be given!

But we all know crack downs only last so long and then its back to normal,i wonder if the really care!

  8. I dont want this thread to be a topic for bashing Thailand but to see if your views are any different from the many who seem to be of the same opinion.

BKKBarry wrote on another website a very interesting view and I agree with what he has said.

Not sure if the moderators will allow his thread to be put on here ? but here is a link to his thread :

    http://www.stickmanweekly.com/ReadersSubmi.../reader5314.htm

Is there a Solution to Thailands problems ?

What about submitting to TAT a dossier of views by us , just incase they have no idea how the average tourist feels about Thailand and the bad parts within ?

Many of us live here and see the day to day destruction of the tourist industry and without help I think it will only get worse. :)

    That's a pretty good moan....but i think he's right!

Don't think submitting anything to TAT or any other department would make a difference,do you think they'd listen?(maybe worth a try)

but i do think deep down they know their problems but can't find a way to stamp out corruption that has been rotting thailand to the core for

many years and crime that is organized by mafia types with the police involved or just to afraid to do something about it!

There will always be scams in LOS and its up to the people to do their home work before visiting/living there,(have to admit i got caught

with the pigeon thing around the palace on my first visit) and anyone who says they were never scammed are lying or never left their hotel room

because everyone gets caught even if they don't realize it!

While it is POSSIBLE, I think you might watch to many movies :D

Im not talking about Alien invasion or mutants on our streets!

Watching too many movies??....take a look at the world...what do you see??...its only starting now!

OH..i see...you have a pair of those rose coloured glasses that every one talks about :D

    QUOTE

    Haha!

Check out the movie "V For Vendetta" - your post could be the blurb for that movie - I have seen others similar but that stands out the most.

It is a good movie aswell!

Personally I believe ill be dead befor anything like that could / would ever happen so I dont let any possibility like that concern me.

Yes seen the movie...but dont think it has anything to do with the post!

So you can not see a similarity between your post - It could also be possible for a government with bio weapons to let some loose and calling it a terrorist attack. & holding back on vaccines or even concocting their own little virus and a movie where the British Government cerate’s a deadly virus, release's it to their own population and calls it a torrorist attack.

Maybe you have not seen the movie lol, or you like to start little e-wars?

Either way, they are very similar.

Ok..maybe i was thinking of a different movie...but if you read the post again you'll see that it was about world population, and natures way of trying to

thin us out but with our vaccines we're beating her!

Think about it...if nature cant beat us we're only going to beat ourself's (but that's in our nature too)!

If the governments of the world see a problem with the rising populations they are going to do something (what ever it takes) to see the

survival of their people and if that means thinning out i think they'll do it....on the QT!

If you want to start comparing posts with movies that's ok...there's a movie about (my left foot) :) ...i think i've a bit of a nail infection :D ....

bet the government gave me that :D

  12. Thailand's population is around 65m+,that's a lot of people for a small enough country!

GB 60m+ again a lot for a small country!

The world population is 6.7b est (Wiki 2008) and the world population is expected to be 9b by 2040!

Watching a video on utube (

) it shows how the population exploded during the Industrial age

and even more so in the age of modern medicine, but some thing i noticed (a large drop in Europe during the black plague)!

With plagues, sars, swine flu ect... its natures way of trying to thin us out,but with our modern meds we manage to beat them.....

So how long do you think it will be till there is something we cant beat??

OR if you really want to get thinking....how long do you think it will be before countries and governments start to see their countries getting

over populated and holding back on vaccines or even concocting their own little virus calling them (sh*t in mouth flu) or (hair in eye syndrome)

It could also be possible for a government with bio weapons to let some loose and calling it a terrorist attack.

If your thinking what china did with the one child per couple, that might work in a communist country but i don't think it would

work in a western capitalist country?

  13. How does the primercord work.

Do you light it and the cord fiz-burns like a fuse, or does it just explode from a detonator?

Is it incendiary material inside or explosive C4.

The only lever i can find that comes close is (http://www.inert-ord.net/usa03a/usa3/m67/index.html) but can not be sure because the upper

part looks a lot wider the forum photos!

I've seen some of the vid they posted but it stopped half why through,i see why you think it might be det cord with the body cut in half...but the cord in the

photo (if it is det cord)as far as i can see is still in good condition and it seems like overkill with a grenade and det cord!

Det cord needs a detonator, depending on the sensitivity of the explosive it can be a spark, electric charge or maybe even a fuse like you said

but ive never seen a fuse used.

WHY WHY WHY are the police making it complicated, saying it was a grenade....then showing cord that might not det cord and a NEW detonator??

If they wanted to call it suicide why not just show the pin and lever??

  14. The question is: do day-to-day policemen in a countryside police station know all this; do they have the same experience as a few of you guys ? :D

If they don't/didn't ask for assistance of military investigators or weapons' specialists, I'm afraid this will be called suicide, like so many other killings. :)

    LaoPo

Don't think most of them know one end of their bike from the other and yes they should ask for assistance from someone with experience!

I don't live in LOS,but been there a lot and i think we all know the BIB don't give a sh*t unless there is money involved.....if its too complicated

or too much work involved they take the easy option!....but thats just my opinion

  15. I understand (from too many Special Forces books that I have read) that det cord burns extremely quickly but at a predictable rate, thus creating a very precise explosion pattern. It is often used in demolitions. It can wrapped around say a column or tree, that needs to be cut down.

Special forces like it because its so precise and very versatile.

Det cord could have been arranged around the body so as to ensure that identifiable features would be destroyed.

The question then arises if they had det cord, there really wouldn't be any need for additional explosives to get the job done other than to send a message, or perhaps to send the investigators off on a wild goose chase.

I don't think its det cord because it wouldn't be there after detonation, maybe wiring for remote det or simply

just some string to hold explosive in place (i cant see the photo very well)

Its possible that after being wired for remote det the leaver and pin could have been left to make it look like suicide

  16. Sorry i haven't read the whole tread and i don't have time to.....first i read that it was c4 and now its a grenade...which is it???

The photos are of an old style grenade pin and striker...the other is an unused detonator used mostly for plastics

they use something simple like a spent cartridge as a primer detonator for IED's in iraq and afgan that can be detonated by mobile phone!

The grenade could have came from anywhere, but i think that detonator can not be easily found (unless you know someone)

Do they really think its suicide??

Thanks for your interesting input. The latest info the police gave out is that a grenade was used and not C4 explosives.

Interesting that you say that a mobile phone is able to detonate this type primer detonator on this type of grenade!

What are your thoughts about the primer/detonation cord which is shown on the photos ? Why was that cord there (on the photo?)

Suicide ? hmmmm....who would kill himself like that; looks complicated to me.

Why would he take detonation cord if he would want to kill himself ?

Removing the clip would have been enough.....to kill himself, right ?...booooommmm...so: why the cord ?

    LaoPo

Agree with you (no way it was suicide) there's easier ways to do that!

If you wanted to remote detonate the grenade you would have to remove the original detonator and striker (both connected and simply unscrew)

and replace with a detonator (like in photo) using wiring(maybe in photo),phone and a few other things (that im not going to get into) could

    easily be detonated remotely!!

Its not rocket science but you do need a little know how which makes this look very fishy, why all the wiring?(if suicide just pull the pin)

I know those detonators are not easy to obtain(but it is thailand) and the one in the photo was NOT used (its brand new) if it was used it wouldn't be there!

  17. Sorry i haven't read the whole tread and i don't have time to.....first i read that it was c4 and now its a grenade...which is it???

  18. Yep, the Brits don't do themselves any favours, but attitudes to alcohol in the UK are very different from other European countries.

I cringed on the weekend in Bangkok when a group of young guys pitched to check in in the hotel in Bangkok. Huge marble lobby,

"F****g great this", "F*****g great that" "lets go get a F*****g beer" "F*****g chicks mate". There is something about young Brits on tour that make them completely oblivious to their surroundings and make them believe also that they can hold their beer from 9am to midnight.

Its not just abroad, like you said attitudes are different to alcohol in the UK, every city in the UK all hel_l breaks loose on the weekends with alcohol to blame...fighting....accidents...ect

Most young brits have little or no respect for the law,and the women are just as bad as the blokes...if not worse!,and when im in LOS i pretend not

to speak english to those who are overly loud and causing trouble(but its hard to keep your cool with the abusive comments when they think you dont

    speak english)

It makes my toes curl to see people speeding past on (sports bikes) with only sun glasses, shorts and flip flops for protection, even a small spill

would need a lot of skin graphs! Could never understand why people buy or rent sport bikes when the roads and driving in LOS are :)

I love my country but sometimes im ashamed to call myself british because of the few that carry on like they do,but what piss's me off

is we all get tared with the same brush.

  19. Duties are about 300% and Thais see new HD's as a status symbol so they pay the extortionate money. Simple really. The reason why the Kawasaki's like the ER6 or Ninja 650 are so much cheaper (240 and 257thou baht) is that they are made in Thailand.

    Ok...thanks

    Don't think i'll be buying a HD....crazy prices!!

Can anyone recommend a custom builder?

  20. Hello all

Just got a quote from a harley dealer in bangkok for the 2010 Iron 883.... B653000 (USD19200)

    Price in the US..8000 (B272000)

    Price in CANADA...10200 (B300000)

    Price in UK.... 5900 (B324000)

I was expecting a bit more in price for duties ect, but not this much!...more than double!

    Can anyone explain??

  21. Nice to get a taste of home now and then....and hard to find traditional fish and chips in thailand.

Good luck to them and looking forward to some f&c next time im in chiang mai.

Is he english?????....only the english can do the best f&c......tried some spanish f&c before :)...never again!

Piggy's??....is that his or her name??
