  1. The reason they couldn't find him guilty is because of Florida law, they weren't allowed to consider Zimmerman's outrageous arrogance and recklessness in not listening to the 911 operator AND neglecting to openly ANNOUNCE who he was and what he was doing in following the dead boy victim.

The reason they couldn't find him guilty is because NONE of those things ARE AGAINST THE LAW and ATTACKING someone IS. Self defense laws are very similar all over the USA. There is nothing special about invoking self defense in Florida.

    are you sure about that?

"There is nothing special about invoking self defense in Florida."

    I'm sure of it.

    Excellent.

Please provide any supporting evidence you can find for your allegation or statement.

  2. The poster two above poses an interesting question...

Re the BKKB New York branch, Longball is correct... It's NOT a retail branch that provides any retail banking services to individual customers... You couldn't open an account there, even if you were in New York.

But the broader question is, can you in any way open a Thai bank account while physically present in the U.S. I don't think so... But, since the OP resides in Los Angeles, there are I believe two Thai banks that do have offices in L.A., I think in the downtown area. Check the yellow pages under banking.

I remember talking to them some years back before I relocated, and it came to nothing. But I can't recall now whether I ever asked them the exact question being posed by the poster above...

Failing that approach, here's my backup suggestion. The Schwab account is great for using in Thailand, since it's bank debit card on the linked checking account has no foreign currency fee and refunds Thai banks' 150 baht ATM withdrawal fees on foreign cards (unless you use an AEON ATM instead that doesn't charge the 150 baht fee in the first place.)

You can use your Schwab ATM card upon arrival for your routine expenses, no problem. And then open a Thai bank account after your arrival.

Then, if you open a BKK Bank account, you can avoid the expenses of international wire transfers by using BKK Bank's New York branch to route the funds via U.S. domestic ACH initiated from online banking from your BofA or Schwab accounts to the BKKB New York branch and then onward to your BKKB Thailand account at a relatively low fee cost and good exchange rate.

Unfortunately, at present, BKKB is the only Thai bank that has a setup that allows Americans to send money to Thailand by starting with a domestic ACH done via online banking out of your U.S. account. The ACH out of your Schwab account would be free/no fee. As best as I recall, BofA charges a $3 or $5 fee to ACH funds out of their accounts.

The BKK Bank web page with info on doing the U.S. domestic ACH and the fees involved is located here:

    http://www.bangkokba...from%20USA.aspx

Just to be clear, what enables BKK Bank to provide this transfer service is that their New York branch somehow has a 9-digit ABA routing number that can be linked to via any U.S. account online banking setup, the same as any regular U.S. bank account. So you'd just use the BKKB NY ABA number and the full account number of your Thai account in your U.S. online banking to set up the ACH link.

BTW, to the poster above, if you call and talk with either of the other Thai banks with offices in L.A. and they have any different or better info to offer, please do post it here...

I think they're going to tell you a) you can't open a Thai account with them from the U.S. and b] the only means they have to send funds from the U.S. to Thailand is via traditional wire transfers.... But I'd be happy to be proven wrong... smile.gif

The constraints on opening an account (especially your first account) while outside of Thailand relate to the AML (Anti Money Laundering) and KYC (Know Your Customer) laws. It is hard for us to ensure that somebody is who they purport to be when we can not examine their identification documents. If you are an existing customer it may be possible under certain cirumstances. I am sure all would understand the need to keep tight controls on things which may otherwise allow criminals to launder drug funds or that would facilitate terrrorist financing.

In the US (I am a citizen) it is possible to open accounts online because banks can check your ID, your credit record, if you have recently moved etc and can provide valid electronic authentication. We do not have this ability currently, particularly with foreign citizens and residents.

Our New York Branch actually does have deposit accounts (if you go to our office you will see a teller window at the front next to the office entrance door) but we do not offer these to individuals in normal circumstances and there is a big sign informing you that these are NOT FDIC INSURED. As John says, you can transfer funds between your account in the USA with your local bank and your Bangkok Bank account in Thailand totally without the need to open an account with our New York branch.

Are you speaking as a bank employee or representative?

  3. I thought we didn't permit horrific photos on Thavisa.

EDIT I also note that the incoming cable goes to the wrong end of the fuse holder, it should go to the tip so that it can't bite when the fuse is removed. Oh and that should be the black wire to the fuse holder.

    .

Why and how would it bite? Any electrical work is advised to be done with the power off. i.e. not energized.

    True or not true?

  4. The steel cleaner has thinner edge than plastic. Means - more efficient. Closest thing to the steel cleaner is a regular Thai soup spoon, but its rib is directed by not a 90° angle to the tongue. So - it's not so efficient.

Thanks for the clarification and again good for you that you care for your teeth.

  6. Try it - and you will see. But this topic is about different subject.

You dismissed the question of poster "noise" and I don't understand why. I use a tongue cleaner that is not stainless and its not a toothbrush.

He is asking about a difference in your posting. I ask the same question.

Obviously you have queried www.google.com and not found the answer you seek.

Can you be more expansive in your question?

P.S. Good for you that you appear to care about the health of your teeth. My impression is that many expats don't until it is too late or they're forced to act due to pain.

I visited a house under construction near me several times that was supervised by an "expert" expat engineer. I never heard him compliment or say anything good about anything except what he'd done personally, which was minimal.
From the suppliers to the installers, everybody was completely worthless according to him.
When the special cut glass window didn't find in the final opening, it was completely the fault of everyone else. The supervisor never bothered to check the opening to insure it was correct. It was apparent to me he was taking every short cut he could for his friend/customer as one might expect from a complete stranger.
I'm not taking sides on the quality standpoint of Thai tradesmen/workers but sometimes one needs to self examine as well.
  8. If Zimmerman is truly not guilty, justice *not* served until Trayvon's family *pays Zimmerman* for the rigors of a false accusation and ruining Zimmerman's life. Suffering grief (even of your own child) does not absolve you from unjustly ruining someone else's life.

    .

I may be mistaken but I thought it was the legal process i.e. district attorney's office and police department, that charged Zimmerman with a crime.

I really didn't follow this trial at all.

In the long run, I'd be willing to take a bet that Mr. Zimmerman will be tried in civil court and with the lower level of guilt requirements possibly be found guilty as happened to OJ Simpson.

In 1995, he was acquitted of the 1994 murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman after a lengthy and internationally publicized criminal trial, the People v. Simpson. In 1997, a civil court awarded a judgment against Simpson for their wrongful deaths; to date he has paid little of the $33.5 million penalty.[2]
  9. Next question - why was Paiboon visiting Kamnan Poh?

I don't suppose it occurred to the reporter, or perhaps he considered it to be too personal to ask.

The answer to that may help with the earlier question.

    .

Just a friendly chat no doubt.

"Mr Paiboon had been visiting one of Thailand's most notorious mafia figures – Somchai Khunpluem, known as Kamnan Poh – at a hospital in Chonburi province".

Should be great advertising for the company that installed the windows.

  10. I want to get her started in investing a little each month in equities or an index fund.

She really doesn't grasp the idea of a future, but I think she's not serious about that. I want her to be OK after I'm ashes and she's with a hansom, young guy be it faland or Thai. She's been right to me and I'll do my best to be good to her, period.

We deal with Kbank but they're short on help in explaining things for her.

    any suggestions?

Links a thai lady can understand in Thai about investing?

  11. I didn't have to put a deposit down. I just presented a copy of my passport, work permit, and salary certificate. That seems to be the rule with several banks. And my salary at the time was just enough to get the work permit, nothing near 150k.

It depends on the bank. My first credit card (but that was ten years ago) I actually got on a non-imm ED visa without income. I don't know whether they still do that - I wouldn't, if I were a bank. Other banks do require you to make a fixed deposit for the amount of the credit card limit you want - I wouldn't call that a "credit" card.

    .

I don't have a work permit so I had a lot of roadblocks to overcome the resistance to issuing a card which I now have for me and my wife. I did have to make a fixed deposit and go through 6 or 7 trips to the bank to deal with one matter after another.

I now have a card that can use to "borrow" my money. That's all I wanted in the first place.

It simply establishes me as more of a life form in LOS than I was before its issuance.

  12. Not really worth that kind of reply..... but well done anyway.

Someone asks a question who maybe hasn't had all the luck and advantages of someone like you. Who are you to determine what questions are worthy of answers?

    .

I don't understand the motivation behind Mr. T's answer.

Seems to me a person, the OP, is asking about the possibility of securing a job in Thailand and he may be unsure of himself or unaware of how to go about getting a job.

  13. It just feels like stealing to me to not insist on paying for all that was ordered.

Thinking about this a bit more, I do tend to mostly eat at places I have a personal connection to, sometimes places run by one family.

If it happened at a big corporate place like SIZZLER, now I'm thinking maybe I wouldn't bother noting an undercharge at a place like that.

    .

Isn't that just called "denial of the victim?

    I like your plan "A".

  14. Quote
TV evangelist quits over sex scandal
Jimmy Swaggart, America's leading television evangelist, has resigned from his ministry after it was revealed he had been consorting with a prostitute.
Mr Swaggart's confession is all the more scandalous since he himself unleashed fire and brimstone against rival TV evangelist Rev Jim Bakker a few months ago for committing adultery with minister and secretary Jessica Hahn.

    .

But Jimmy Swaggart had crying down to a virtual art form. He also has a fairly decent voice.

What kind of tricks can this monk perform?
