  1. Obviously the poster has no idea about Thailand, nor can speak Thai, and probably lives in bars.

    .

Perhaps tthe OP would be much happier if he refrained from frequenting bars and mingling in the company of bar girls.

There's no reason he should be subjected to having his moral compass compromised.

  2. I guess the first question is why you want to avoid taking a taxi? Is it because of cost? Taxi to Pattaya is normally a flat rate of about 1500 baht which is about $50. I have never gone from DM to Pattaya directly, normally I go from Bangkok to Pattaya (not often) - and when I do I usually just go by Minibus from Victory Monument station (BTS) area for around 110 baht (10 baht cheaper than bus ohmy.png) -- and direct them to go to Pattaya Pier area. Of course to get from the airport to Victory Monument it would cost around 200 baht (50 AOT fee + meter).

    .

    Good information for the OP>

  3. Me: You know about 2015 ASEAN ?

    Thai pal: Yes

Me: You know the language will be English

    Thai pal: Yes

Me: You don't speak English nor does 95% of the local people we both know

    Thai pal: Yes

Me: You don't think this is a problem ?

    Thai pal: No

    Me: Oh really

Thai pal: We will mainly deal with Bpamma people and they speak Thai (or will learn to speak it)

  4. i cant see what good simply putting up with it will do. i have construction across the street and while i realize that they have to make some noise, i drew thee line at the no stop radio cranking out morlam at the same time.

i walked across the street, had a word with the manager, explained to him i had been in what was my once very quiet house for the last 12 years and work from home and while I understood that they had to make some noise to work, the radio was over the top.

he understood, pulled the plug on the radio and has since made an effort to do any noisy cutting or the like as far away from my property as possible.

if i hadn't tried, i could be dancing to morlam now, but i did try, so it is as quiet as can b expected under the circumstances.

    funny how that works out.

    You may have been lucky..

  5. His partner locked him out last week, he decided that breaking in would be a good idea, so he smashed the doors in with a machete, then tried to smash the inner shutters with the same machete, for about an hour, until finally his partner called the police, his partner then defended him, telling the police that he was ok, and that all he really needed was a nap, so off the BiB went! blink.png

You have your answer right there.

Any further posts are a waste of your time.

You can and will do nothing.

    Welcome to TIT.

  6. Even USB port ?

So for that mean I could plug in USB and start watching movies?

That is one big plus over IPAD... I still haven't figured out how to watch any movies, as there seems to be some special APPLE format that makes it impossible to watch any movies unless up buy them through apple

Guessing there must be some work around for that , but I havent figured it out

Have you used a VPN and signed up for Hulu or Netflix or Amazon?

  7. I don't really get why you would conclude we are "guests" in this country because of that immigration incident. It's pretty obvious the immigration police have great power over us foreigners, and it is foolish not to adopt a kowtow like attitude towards them in this culture, but I don't see the connection to the guests rhetoric.

Didn't your mother teach you that if you're a guest in someone's house you make sure that you are on your best behavior? The connection seems pretty clear to me.

    .

I agree with you about what my mother taught me about how to act when I'm a guest in someone's house.

I'll continue by saying she also taught me when I have a guest in my own house to show respect, courtesy and even generosity.

  8. Got back yesterday from a 2 week trip, the first as a tourist, and for me the most fabulous monument we visited wasn't the obvious one but was Chaukhtatgyi Paya.

If your budget allows stay at the Savoy hotel. It overlooks Shwedagon and is a 15 minute walk to the north gate. Expensive as most hotels are in this country but with just 30 rooms and teak everywhere the feeling is more of staying in a private home.

    .

    Looks like a nice place.

Strange such an improvished country has such high hotel rates.

  9. I do my own then pay to have it ironed. I paid 60 baht for 5 pair of jeans and about 10 t-shirts. Laundry cost me 30 baht, hang it over night, Bob's your uncle.

This is the way to go! Who would want their clothes mixed in and washed with all the filthy bodily fluids and fecal matter particles that are to be found on the typical pattaya visitors, expats, or working girls laundry in Pattaya. I laundry my owe clothes too and found a great gal who does great ironing...10-12 articles cost less than B100.

    .

A short term visitor may have trouble justifying buying a clothes washer in order to do his laundry. Don't ya think?

  10. Drunken Isaarn farmers, wives and ex-wives, inlaws and outlaws. Grinding poverty and droughts, sounds lovely. What are the farangs like there? Lots of young hip go getters or what?

I lived there for a year when I was 26.

    Was great.

Probably not so great if you're 50, with no financial security, living among a community of leeches. But I had a ball. smile.png

    .

I almost pity people in thailand who are here without financial security. I see so many people here with just the very minimum financial support. I couldn't stand to live based on receiving a check deposit in the mail or a letter in the mailbox.

Hand to mouth was never my choice. Proper savings and spending habits eliminates or prevents that from happening.

Amazing to me to learn how many people make decent money while working and end up with next to nothing in Thailand.

    A shame.

  11. .

    That's a fairly small annoyance.

    Anything else on the grill?

It has long been a pain in my proverbial to see the blatant misuse of the above terms, on Television (programme times)

bars and restaurants (opening/closing/happy hour times)

So please let me inform everyone that 12 AM is 12 O'clock midday and 12 PM is 12 O'clock midnight.

If you insist on using the terms, which incidently don't actually mean anything, please use them correctly.

    Thank you. thumbsup.gif

Or even better use the 24 hr clock and avoid any confusion whatsoever.

  12. Either you can take it or you can't. Many of my neighbours don't talk to me, no problem. I have some friends here and a good honest family around me. Funerals, stuff like that - you have to live with it or at least get your house sound proofed.

Wonder how you insulate yourself from the world around you?

    Happy?

  13. You don't mention a price. I think we paid about 174K for the PCX for the Missus which I registered in her name. It does have a decent storage capacity under the seat but it also lacks a drink holder and has limited options for that. Any ideas anyone? FOR sure the shocks for rear rider are lacking. Rough ride!

I think next time which wasn't available at the time, I'd opt for the 300.
