    @ChangFai

thanks for the photo update. It helps those of us not there have an idea of what's going on. From various pics I've seen, I sometimes wonder how the surface remains stable with all the caverns and underground mish mash.

  2. With BUPA Thailand if you join before age 61 you are guaranteed renewal for life if premiums are maintained (as documented in Benefits Package) ... a few years ago I applied to four different US based health care insurers with international policies and I was declined coverage by all four.

    .

The Bupa website offers a policy quote up until the age of 65.

  3. It's now up on the 5th floor. Just turn up.

You mean on the 5th floor in Panthip plaza. I was there a few weeks ago with my 6 years old iMac, believe it or not, they don't repair stuff from 6 years old anymore, unbelievable. I'm not satisfied about Apple anymore.
    .

When I bought a Powerbook G4 in 2005 which was my first Apple product, the person giving a presentation in the store about an Apple program answered a few questions for me after his presentation. He mentioned a few things and one of them was "it's kind of hard to screw up a Mac" and when I asked about extending the 3 year Applecare program, he said it's not possible but I'd be likely to want to buy a new laptop after three years anyway due to improvements made with them.

His words proved true for me.

Regarding the authorized Apple outlet which also sells some items as a store, I've been given completion dates up to two weeks as well. To my surprise, each and every time, the work haas been completed far sooner than that time.

I rate them highly in terms of satisfaction.

And yes, there will come a time with any electronic product where the manufacturer will no longer be able or willing to do repairs. the two times i looked for a repair of a printer in the states i was told even though it was less than 12 months old that, repairs weren't available.

Time sometimes to move on and forward.

  4. I didnt know that about the IOS, good to know. I guess 3000 would be the max then. I will give her discount from that price too.

    Thanks for your help.

    .

    .

If she's decent to you and your GF, maybe a ฿2,000 price would earn you a bit of good karma. After all, it's mostly just a simple phone now.

  5. I also had a 3gs which is now lost in some hotel in Chaing Mai. I believe you'll need to call your cellular data provider to turn off the phone connecting to the internet. They can give you a number to call for future turning off. The 4S I'm told has the cellular off switch but I don't think the 3gs does.

I wasted a lot of baht discovering this feature on the phone. 555

  6. This might also work:

    - Go to Settings -> Network

    - Click the "Location" popup, select "Edit Locations..."

    - Create a new location, call it anything you want

    - Make sure the new location is selected

Might not be a hardware problem... I've had some WiFi issues, though not like you. My rMBP would drop the WiFi every few minutes... example, it would never download a larger file because at some point there would be a timeout. That issue is now gone.

    .

    And another thanks.

I'm going to give your suggestion a try as my MBP occasionally drops the WiFi in the house when for all intents and purposes everything is fine.

  7. What exactly differentiates a "deep-bore" from a well?

The furthest any pump can draw a head of water is about 34 feet. That is due to atmospheric pressure. There is no such force as "suck" - the pump works by removing the air from the pipe and atmospheric pressure pushes the water up the pipe.

If you want to go deeper, you send the pump down the well so it pushes the water up.

    .

    That sounds "by God".

    Thanks for the info

  8. baffles me how often thai police can smell alchool on farangs. I can smell a smoker that had his last dirtystick a day ago yet ive NEVER been able to smell alchool off someone unless they had a liter of whiskey poured on them though most people drink beers in the day and retain no smell..

50/50 chance this is a BS story to help out the kamikaze street "racer". If he did indeed drink both car and motorbike deserve this little warning to fix up their life and stop drinking on the roads/stop fixing up their bikes to do crazy maneuver with 0 skills

That is why do they do a bloodtest at the station.

So no worries, if he was sober he'll go free.

You're conclusions about the motorbike driver don't hold water and are based on nothing at all.

    .

Do you really believe he'd go free if sober?

  9. I'm waiting for this verdict as it plays a part in determining my future travels; if he never spends any time in prison, I never travel to Thailand again!

    .

Save your time and understand it's a done deal.

Simply never return and avoid the frustration.

Personally, I merely only wish defective products I buy could be reasonably returned for refund or exchange.

Life can be very harsh in LOS.

  10. Will this ever stop?

And please: spare me the "it happens everywhere"- bs!

In 40 years back home, I haven't read about as many fatal bus- accidents as I have here in the last 3 months.

It IS about how a country enforces laws, how it values education and safety etc.

    RIP the victims

    .

I checked and Swami says in about 58 years there'll start to be a change in Thailand.

Until then it's recommended we don't hold our collective breath.

Many will die in the mean time.

  11. The baby belongs to you, as you are not married the father can only become the legal father if he goes to court and the court agrees he is the father of the child.

Not aware of any child support in Thailand, I believe there are tax benefits.

Not having enough money can seriously strain a relationship and the only way out is for one of you to find a decent job.

    .

I look at topic such as this as being akin to an astroid hitting this planet. There's absolute nothing any member of this or any other forum worldwide can do to alter anything.

It may be an "On The Beach" scenario but I doubt it. The punk in Korea certainly wants to keep living his HiSo style which will undoubtedly cease if there's a single missile detected headed to friendly countries. He'll be toast for sure and he doesn't want that.

I worry more about the ice cubes freezing in the refer.

Can you please offer the OP any suggestion as to how she or her "S.O." can find a decent job in Thailand??

  13. AS i shut the gate this morning something caught my eye. The movement of the "bee" was unusual so I looked closer. I couldn't believe what i was seeing because i couldn't see anything. The tiny ant was so small it was invisible to me. I just took photos with my phone and cropped them.

I know ants can lift 10 times their body weight but I wonder if this one was a heavy duty performer. I think the "bee" is more than 10 times her (its) weight.

The insects in Thailand keep me fascinated.

  14. Worked for myself. In fact, I started doing this 2-3 years before I left my job. One of the best things I ever did. No boss to hassle me, no commuting, no sitting in an office all day. Get up when I like, work when I like, travel wherever I like, and still get a steady income. I don't know why more people don't do it. It's not brain surgery. Very easy to build up a nice income over a few months/years.

Well don't keep it a secret, what you do? I like the sound of it
