If the Army would have supported the elections on Feb 2 and defended people rights to vote we wouldn't be in the mess we are in now.
What utter nonsense...! You seem to think that the PTP are angels, but to have allowed them to continue doing what they have been doing for the past three years would have seen this country bankrupt...! And then what? People fighting in the streets for basic necessities having lost their jobs and no welfare state to turn to...! Get a grip please.

"The army chief asked for Department of Special Investigation chief Tarit Pengdit and when the latter stood up to identify himself the army chief told him enough is enough, stop it, it is already messed up!
Ok, at the risk of seeming to be too dumb to get the joke, but, erm, what?
I'm with you. Mai Kow Jai.
It seems to me he's pointing to the endless, nonsensical hunting down of anti-government protesters by the DSI, when nothing at all has been done to hunt down the red shirt militants who have been causing mayhem and death...!
Is it nonsense when the Criminal Court issues arrest warrants for PDRC leaders - for murder in one instance? Or does the PDRC not recognize the authority of the Court while accusing the redshirts of being disrespectful of the Courts decisions? These anti-PTP protesters seem to always excuse their own violations of the laws by pointing fingers at PTP protesters allegedly committing felonies. And I thought the PDRC wanted accountability but apparently for themselves only by those laws it chooses to heed. When the Rule of Law is followed, there is no one right party.
...there is when only one party is following the rule of law, whilst the other party is attacking them with guns and grenades on a daily basis, and that has been clear to see for thew past six months...!!

More like a bullying put down than a joke - unless a lot was lost in translation
...well, isn't that the best way to deal with someone who has been engaging in bullying himself for several months...?!

PTP is finished, and the current proxy caretaker PM has no influence at all.
Reforms first now, before the elections.
Wrong, PTP still has the government of Thailand. Facist movements will not be tolerated, is that not clear for you by now ?
Elections without reforms first are just a continuation of the current situation with the socalled democratic government ignoring and obstruction the opposition and even it's own voters.. It's that clear to you by now?
What country are you from? Of course the government is ignoring and obstructing the opposition. Do the Tories typically support the policies of Labour?
...well, obviously in the UK, the Tories oppose Labour policies, and vice versa, but certainly not with grenades and bullets...!! It's more like mafia families fighting for control here, which is why it all has to come to an end, and it will take time to build up a system that will work...!!

Great news, the rally wouldn't attract that much of a support anyway, but do this people not have to work??
The seizure of the local radio station, is the first in many stations who should be shut down for ever, other ways this one sided propaganda keeps going on and peace will never been installed in the country.
All media should report only facts, and no propaganda for any side involved
The that would meaning shutting down all commercial channels 3 5 7 9 11 etc etc .How about facebook twitter etc as while your at it .
And us on TV of course. Some would have to turn to drink and sex to fill their days.
... and golf...!

Good to see him involved. He plays by the rules and wins elections fair and square. 100 years from now his statue will be everywhere, and noone will remember, Prayuth, Abhisit, Suthep, and the rest of the democracy destroyers.
...that is just so sad....!!

If you watched Thai TV, you would see the army saying rallies can continue, its the marching about and shutting off electric etc. thats been curtailed.... IE PDRC.
So Red Rally unaffected as it was not going anywhere anyway.
So long as they don't appoint a fascist, we'll be ok. Hope its the real beginning of the end for the mess.
...good to see that you recognise that the red rally "was not going anywhere anyway"...!

the fat little bastard is backpeddling as quick as he can now because he knows he is toast, all mouth when he has the govt and police to back him but when he finds that he no longer has their protection he sh*ts himself and tells the reds to behave. Will be great if the army start to round up these idiots and throw their <deleted> in jail along with any of the anti govt mob that have been too heavy handed.
...but he still uses the word "fight"; that should be enough to haul his ass back to jail...!!

first thing arrest Suthep who has caused all this madness... followed swiftly by the fake monk they can share a cell together and practice achieving Samadhi
It was pathetic (as usual) the first time you posted it; why bother repeating it...?!

FACT Pattaya has never had a Military Coup!
...since when was Pattaya an independent nation?

Capo has been dissolved? lots of updates on Richard Barrows twitter feed btw.
Hopefully an official announcement will be made that Chalerm and Tarit have also been dissolved.
If CAPO has been dissolved does it mean Chalerm will now have to drink on his own time and his own bin ?
Can't wait for him and Tarit to threaten the army.
I suspect that they are both up North already, somewhere close to the Cambodian border...!

To the Red Shirt apologists out there, regardless of how you try to spin it, the PTP/Red Brigade have brought this upon themselves as a direct result of recent occurrences.
1. Setting aside a limited number of renegade protest guards, the anti-government protesters have proven themselves to be very peaceful, and indeed, their rallies have been shown by the courts to be legal (of course, you will say that the courts are crooked, regardless of the fact that Nattawut, Jatuporn and Prompong have been roaming free despite having been sentenced or having breached their bail conditions);
2. The red shirt hordes have taken advantage of the peaceful nature of the protests to carry out nightly attacks on them, resulting in almost three dozen deaths, including children, and hundreds of casualties;
3. The Red army had clearly been put to task, and were getting dangerously close to carrying out that task - they were even given protection by CAPO, something which they did not feel was deserved by the anti-government protesters;
4. Chlaerm, despite having been sacked, was threatening charges of treason against anyone who came out in support of the anti-government protesters - let's not forget that treason is punishable by death;
5. A cache of weapons was found in a vehicle belonging to a "senior figure" in the government, resulting in PTP/Red Shirt leaders trying to conceal this discovery - this would seem to suggest that the government was complicit in providing arms to its supportive extremists;
Name me any other country in the world that would not have reacted in a similar way against this Red Army amassing around the capital...?!
Finally, the point about double standards is nonsense; had the anti-government protesters been seen as a threat to the public, they would also have been surrounded and told to disperse; however, as already noted, their activities have already been held by the courts not to be illegal.

As of today CAPO has no authority what so ever, the military now control security.
Yes, this would now appear to be a "dead" thread...!

So it is 6 AM and I am watching CNN. No mention of it.. Let's try BBC.
Johnathan Head has just said that people in Bkk are ' baffled " by the move and there are no details yet on what it will entail.
Just because Dick may be baffled by it, that doesn't mean that everyone else doesn't understand the need for it.

Coups, floods, extra judicial killing sprees, occupation and burning of buildings in capital, political chaos on the streets, rice policies, corrupt governments, civil war, irrational violence and now martial law.
Sometimes I feel like I'm living in some sort of extra terrestrial soap opera rather than a country.
Probably 70% of those issues also apply to your home country.
Are you suggesting he comes from Colombia?

Martial law should never be invoked under any situation, an army that works against the people and becomes a police force completely misses the point they are meant to be the guardians of the country against outside forces, their role is to HELP Thai people not to fight against any of them.
The army have done NOTHING in the past few months and have been utterly ineffective in trying to stop violent attacks, let's see if they even have the balls to go and remove the few guards and the insane monk who have managed to hold onto a gigantic government complex for about 6 months. They have been getting destroyed in the south for years and were really outrageously stupid in 2010 as well.
Absent an effective police force, what choice do they have?

Why does Thailand even have a military? All they do is covert power and money.
The role of the military is to defend the country and we have seen what happens if someone attacks Thailand in the past. The military runs home to cry to their mums.
The simple answer to your question is, given the state of the police force here, without the Army, Thailand would already be in a state of anarchy.
The Army is clearly paying attention to what you correctly state is their role and defending the country. Since it is now clear that the PTP is involved in providing weaponry, despite their best efforts to avoid this being revealed, they have now shown their true colours, and the Army must step in to prevent these weapons being used on innocent people.

T News showing a military proclamation that CAPO is no longer to exist.
Also nobody in or out of Aksa
...can one speculate from this exactly who the senior figure was who owned the vehicle containing the cache of weapons...?!

Martial law but not a coup. Could perhaps give the army more means to prevent shootings as the recently discovered assault rifles were being owned and "protected" by high ranking police officers and government officials.
Pleasant side effect: Jatuporn can be picked up now? He'll be screaming war no doubt. And he was trying to ignite one anyway.
I'm pretty sure that the discovery of an arms cache in a vehicle owned by a government 'minister' was the catalyst for this. The Army needs to bring this senior figure in, and it would have been difficult without taking a major step, such as martial law.
As for Jatuporn, he needs to make only one remark about 'fighting' against this decision to find his ass back in jail.

Finally a court got smart to the PTPs excuses for not showing up to a hearing. Every PTP that has had a recent court case scheduled to be heard has come up with am excuse not to be there. The exception i think was YLs last hearing.

I would think that this would be tantamount to contempt of court, which must surely represent another breach of his bail conditions...!!

"Pheu Thai Party spokesman Prompong Nopparit said the EC must hold a video-conference within next week to schedule the election date or it may face complaints for dereliction of duty".
Perhaps he should issue a complaint against the Police for dereliction of duty, having failed to take him into custody to serve his prison sentence...!!
Is that this guy who was caught trying to bribe a court?
No, Prompong is the Spokesperson for the PTP who was found guilty of libel and awarded a 12-month non-suspended custodial sentence, and yet still walks free...!
-
"According to Mr. Worachet, the postponement of elections will only bring more uncertainty to Thailands political crisis. He urged the government to unilaterally issue a Royal Decree approving the election without the EC's assistance, pointing to Article 195 of the Thai Constitution."
In my opinion an election with no reform will solve nothing. The attack against each side will still continue. How can a person get a collage degree in any thing and think an election will settle any thing with out reform.
You would have to be so stupid you would make a snake look intelligent to think if you held an election and the Democrats won that the red shirts would all go home never say any thing no more rallies. Thaksin's hired politicians would stop mouthing off and attacking any one and every one who did not agree with them. They would start looking for ways to improve the life's of the Thai population.
Or if the PTP won the people would just stop asking for the government to end the corruption. They would just stand by as Thaksin was inaugurated as Dictator.
Elections with no reform is just putting reform off. It will come but the longer it is put off the bloodier it will be. Will these nitwit wannabe intellectuals be standing on the firing line? Or will they be proclaiming intellectual things that have no meaning answer nothing.
What concerns me is that they state that:
"the protesters' calls for reforms are valid, but that reforms must be implemented after an election is held ... the discourse about 'Reform Before Election' is fooling and misleading the public".
Those who call for reforms before an election have put forward reasons for this, such as the exclusion of convicted individuals, those currently out on bail or with cases pending against them, anyone found to have been involved in vote rigging or vote buying, and so on, all of which are reasonable reform demands prior to carrying out new elections.
What do these academics propose as valid reasons not to have reforms prior to the election? Nothing...!!
If they want to argue that the call for reforms is misleading the public, then they must surely have some valid reasons to support this, or are they simply relying on the same principles as my local vicar back home ... "you must simply have faith"...!!

As far as I remember, the PDRC was offering a while ago also 5 million baht to the courts to disqualify the PM.
Same BS, other persons.
Did you made the same post at that time, Mr. Cuicine?

...and what would be your solution for innocent politicians, say for example, Apirak, who was exonerated of the trumped-up charges that were laid against, but nevertheless resigned from office whilst he was under investigation? A most honourable man whom Yingluck should have emulated in order to avoid the current situation.
