Easy way to do this. Reinstall Chrome in whatever version of Windows you are using. When it's finished, it will ask you if you want to set Chrome as default and import bookmarks from other browsers. ???? ???? ???? 80% of Thailand soaked as intense rainfall reigns
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Good. We desperately need some heavy, constant rainfall up here in our part of Northern Thailand. -
Charge me with a crime and take me to court. Oh - wait! There is no "crime" as it was a shake-down. Anyway - chalk it up for being a good reason not to live in one of Thailand's 'big' cities. The police out in the sticks have better things to do than shake down the local farangs as doing so simply spurs the ire of their Thai families..

Doxy-PEP - Drastically reduces risk of catching certain STIs
connda replied to scubascuba3's topic in Health and Medicine
But if you get Doxycyline resistant gonorrhea, syphilis and chlamydia, then you're truly ****ed. What the moronic UCSF professor's research fails to address is the well known effect that the indiscriminate use of antibiotics has on bacteria - Antibiotic Resistant Bacteria. By promoting the prophylaxis use of Doxycycline, the UCSF researchers are setting up the sexually promiscuous segment of society (and the rest of humanity for that matter) with a future with pathogens that no longer can be killed with standard antibiotics. Here's a better idea that doesn't threaten the entirety of humanity: Wear Condoms! -

Lost in translation: Thai road sign riddle baffles tourists
connda replied to snoop1130's topic in Isaan News
My favorite is the pronunciation of a women's name "พอล" which gets transliterated as Porn. Then all of the Farangs have a great laugh - "That gal is named Porn! Ha ha ha ha ha! She must be a Porn-Star! Ha ha ha ha ha!" What the jerks don't know is that the correct pronunciation is almost exactly like Pawn is in Pawn Shop. Like I said - transliteration are at best approximations and most often full of holes unless you completely understand the pronunciation substitutions of the transliteration schemes (and there are more than one which makes it even more confusing). Even someone with a rudimentary understanding of the Thai alphabet and their pronunciations and work out the proper Thai pronunciations on signs. -

Major Banker Says Most Thais Have Financial Concerns
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Notice that Thais don't worry about the crushing unsecured debt that most of them carry. Banks and lenders are easy. Just borrow more! -

BJ can just claim that he was 'undercover.' However, I'd suggest updating the bullet-proof glass and side-panels in his vehicle. -

Thai retailers urge government to reassess import taxes on luxury goods
connda replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Thai retailers urge government to reassess import taxes on luxury goods Yeah, roll back the taxes on high-end luxury goods as the obscenely wealthy don't like paying taxes. Just tax the import goods that the commoners, plebeians, and little-people use. -
Thai women preferences for Asian or Farang men?
connda replied to RamenRaven's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
There are large swaths of Thai women who are openly looking for Farang (European descent) husband and are very vocal about it. At 30, my own Thai wife would not have given me a side glance. At 45, she was actively looking for pasty white men! And there ya have it! -
Mims is the best place to find drug info but they have become total (expletive deleted) regarding access to the database (I used to have access). So, if you have a specific drug or category of drugs, that you wish to find the legal status, ask @Sheryl In the US they are open with information about drugs (e.g., drugs.com) but so many drugs are prescription. Here in the LOS, they are totally closed about providing mere commoners with information, but most drugs with the exception of narcotics, drugs that are narcotic precursors, and some odd-ball nootropics are all OTC. It might be easier to find the list of illegal drugs than trying to find which are OTC. Lunesta and Ambian - by prescription from a hospital. And expect to pay total dollar from the hospital's pharmacy. Not cheap at all. If you have sleep issues you will find other avenues (speaking from experience) from diazapam (be very very careful) which is available from smaller government hospitals (which don't carry Lunesta or Ambian) to using antihisamines (e.g., Hydroxyzine Hydrochloride), Melatonin, and herbal supplements. Talk with Sheryl (who has access to Mims) or your pharmacists (although talking to Thai pharmacists about drug categorization can be an exercise in futility).
