  1. How fussy are they at both the Laos border for the entrance visa and at the Thai consulate about the sizes of the photos? I have three photos, but they're a little big. I've never had trouble using them for extensions at the Chiang Rai consulate, so I figure I should be fine.

The little helpers running around the front gate checking folks paperwork and opposite the road were just trimming photos up to fit in the box, easy peasy.

  2. I've been sitting on a beaded one for the past several months, and quite happy with it. It's only the lower portion that I bought, having something different for my back, but it does the trick. I bought mine in 'Amorn' in the Computer Plaza on the north side of the moat, next to Icon Square. They are on the floor against the rear wall with the rest of the car accessories.

What is the benefit using beaded seat cover?

    Google it

    Not difficult

  3. Avalon Residence. http://www.agoda.com/en-gb/avalon-residence/hotel/savannakhet-la.html?checkin=2016-03-23&los=2&adults=2&rooms=1&cid=-1&searchrequestid=1f98d681-1494-4cc4-836c-818dca2066c9

    • I haven't stayed myself but a friend recommends it. Short walk to the bus station and easy walk or tuk tuk ride to the Consulate
    • Free wifi.
    • Don't know about scanner but most hotels can copy things for you. If not there are people offering copying services outside the Consulate.

Don't stay in the house (annex) section of Avalon residence, the A/C just isn't up to task in this heat. Nothing around Avalon either, don't bother with the market nearby, only has the Avalon coffee shop as an option (delicious baguettes though).

Next time we will stay down near the night market area. Nicer area in general, cafe's, restaurants , guesthouses and a few hotel options near the river. Its a bit further from Thai consulate but uk tuts are dirt cheap all over town.

I highly recommend Pilgrims inn and restaurant near the night market. Fantastic coffee and food options here, new rooms with great A/C for only 650-800 Baht a night.

  4. Classic Burger in the old city neat the corner on moat moonmuang soi 9 has a great burger.

It's run by an American guy and it's a real genuine burger cooked correctly, same with the fries. Similar quality to Nation's in America.

Did not go in with big expectations but very satisfied. Was so good it made me homesick.

Another big plus is that they are not overcharging on prices.

So you say an American guy is running the restaurant. Does he need a work permit to run the restaurant?. Does he need a work permit to own the restaurant and not actually run it as the poster said he did?

Not really any of your business is it?

The topic is burgers not work permits.

  5. Once your ME "O" visa has expired the only option you have to stay is to apply at a nearby Thai Embassy/Consulate for a single entry tourist visa which is all that is now available.

The visa provides a 60 day stay which can be extended (1900 Bht) for 30 days at an immigration office.

You can still get multiple entry visas not just single as you are saying. Just hunt around. Suvannaket and Singapore are just two i know of that do them still.

    Really !

You know more than most !

Multiple Entry Tourist visa are only available from ones home country.

In Laos and Singapore METV'S are only issued to citizens of those countries.

Rubbish. I've been getting them in Singapore for years. They are still doing them too. Suvannaket is doing them too, a mate of mine just got another one. Do your homework. I am talking about non imm O spouse visas BTW...lol

  6. I just received my visa back from Canberra. I applied for a non O MULTI and I completed all due papper work for Thai Spouse visit. For information I am Married for 10 years and over 50 years.

I sent AUD$225. What I received was a non O SINGLE and cash change of AUD$135 and no explaination.

It appears to me as mentioned previous in this thread that embassies are no longer due to a policy change issuing multi non O any more.

    I wonder why !! ??

If I only knew this I would not of bothered and only applied for a double tourist entry. As this would of suited my travel plans better.

As on this trip I will only stay 60 days. So having 3 months with a possible 2 months exstension is totaly wasted.

PS The moderator may want to start a Canberra thread with this.

I was in Canberra in 2014 with my wife and 3 kids and had all the documents required for a non imm O visa, i was flatly refused a multi entry as soon as we walked in the door. The also said nowhere else was doing a multi entry in Australia either. I went outside (partly fuming, lol) and called Melbourne (as we were heading that way) and they said yes, no problem at all for a multi entry, lol. Dropped it off one morning picked it up the next afternoon, smiles all around.

Canberra a total waste of time IMO.

Sadly Brisbane is no longer an option either (this was always my favourite option), and friendliest. The consul general is no longer operating there until further notice.

  8. Give Albert a call if quality is what you are after at a very reasonable price. The quality is the best we have had done on the whole house. And friendly and flexible too. Very refreshing here compared to the usual carry on.

Our gutters are in their 2nd year and haven't altered in any way, still looks like they were installed yesterday. Works great in heavy downpours with the drainage we had put in.

  9. Thai news is reporting that the families of the deceased have declined 500K baht each in compensation in exchange for not pressing charges. They did receive a smaller insurance payout from the driver's Po Ro Bo coverage. Looks like they will be demanding justice and/or more substamtial compensation.

Hopefully the families will get justice. And hopefully this irresponsible girl who ruined many people's lives will rot in prison for the full 10 year term.

10 years for each life lost is more closer to the mark. Even that's being lenient.

  10. Drunk at 630am? Maybe she had a medical problem, like diabetes. This is tragic, but get the details before trying and executing her in the court of public opinion.

Yes. Suppose "medical problem" could be an answer. However, the Inspector Clouseau inside me leads me to suggest the possibility of drinking all night then departure from somewhere like Spicy or Lucky Bar at six in the morning being a slightly more likely scenario.

Theres a strange irony isnt there, that allegedly the reason Spicy and Lucky Bar are permitted to stay open all night is because they might be owned by police officers, and then when customers drive home after drinking all night, its probably more junior police officers who have to deal with the consequences!

    Think about it !

All over the road like a drunken maniac at 6 in the morning because she might be a diabetic? The mind boggles. I do like your attitude of trying to see it from another angle but thats just borderline delusional.

  11. Looks nice,

My problem with ''Food Courts'' here i just wish there was some that had '''Healthy Options'' , as in, Less Sugar and Less Salt... , and even if they do have a Salad bar, its very very Basic...

    Oh well maybe one day.....

Exactly. And a proper juice bar for refreshments. Not fruit only juice bar either. Perhaps one day like you say.
