  1. I ate at Duke's at Promenada yesterday afternoon around 5:00pm... I was the only customer...

Having been to Promenada at least 40 times, I can assure you that was a "one off" although 17:00 is sort of between lunch and the dinner hours. It is almost always completely packed (with perhaps 70% Thais) day and evening.

Every time i have been it has been close to full.

Promenada will have the last laugh for sure.

  2. We purchased a top notch Horizon treadmill at Sports World central festival. We got it for 40% less than the price on it after haggling. Happy with it, and its a heavy duty machine, beware of the kg rating on most. It can be as little as 80kgs, ok if your from Munchkin land i guess.

Agree, I also bought a Horizon from Sports World although not the top one (841T at only 40k Baht) but enough for the average foreigner's weight and they gave good service.

The average foreigner in CM is over 100kgs, hence the heavy duty requirements. And if you run hard on them you need a sturdy one.

  4. 3BB do not operate a 2 tier price system. However foreigners are often required to pay one year up front'

    The cheapest service is 590 + 41 tax = 631 baht/month, the next service (13 meg) is 900 + 63 tax = 963 baht/month. Could be you had a business account, more expensive again.

Shall I scan our bills and post here?

    Yeah, go on, why not.

  5. My favourites at the moment are:

    Mexican - Salsa Kitchen

Sushi - either of the Tengoku restaurants or Tsunami on Huey Guaw

Western - Dukes, The Brotherhood, Kelly's, The Organic Coffee Bus

Looking for recommendations for good Indian restaurants smile.png

New Delhi is by far the best in town. Slow cooked though, so bring your iPhone. Well worth the wait.

  6. Charge more than Farangs:

I paid BBB 1390 per month. I cancelled. My wife, using her Thai name got a new account for the same service for the same address and the bill was 620 per month. I am Farang, she is not. Not offensive?

I asked for some help here and didn't need that kind of response. So thanks!

You asked a question and got an answer.

They do not charge more for foreigners. Period.

  7. Yummy Pizza on the canal rd is another great choice.

Just want to verify that they are still on Canal road next to Koolpunt View 7? Their Facebook page when you click on the map sends you off to Mahidol road but typing into Google Maps shows it on Canal Road.

Yes it is still on the Canal Road.

  8. If you give us some specifics, we can make a more specific recommendation. There are lots of music schools all around Chiang Mai, but their instruction differs greatly.

What is the age of the student?

What style of music is the student interested in?

Does the student want to learn 'music' or just learn guitar?

Music theory or just play songs?

    Hi Folk Guitar.

My 11 year old daughter is after some lessons south of town. Any ideas?

    Thanks in advance.

  9. There are three or four school vans in our moo baan every morning (reverse in late afternoon) picking up kids, some just toddlers. Given the behaviors of these drivers just within our village it amazes me that anybody would allow their kids to be in the hands of these morons.

...does that say anything about the school that employs them???

Of course it does. It shows they don't give safety much priority.

My daughters told me yesterday their primary school does fire and safety drills at least every month, which is great and should be mandatory for any school.

I then asked my son about his high school and he said they have never done one.

I will be asking today why they don't do them.

You have to stand up when it comes to safety. This Thai Krieng Jai thing is all sweet and everything but it gets in the way of progress and safety at times.

  10. I'm the OP. It turns out this new place is simply Jeffer re-branded. I walked in today and they handed me a Jeffer menu.

The only thing NY about Jeffer is you feel like you're being robbed.

I paid 119 baht for a coca-cola and and inferior but very edible hamburger. Fries were good!

Just like being robbed see.. got that NY / Bronx / Brooklyn thing going. lol

  11. Without a car park it will never really take off, not long term anyway. Nimmenhemin is a right off in that dept. Even the old faithful "Green Door" has suffered of late with less car spaces available.

The Dukes have all been built with car parking spaces in mind (except night bazaar with its tourist traffic).

    Yes look at warm up

    Parking for 3 Merc coupes.

Another Nimmen non parking venture that went tits up.......NOT.

No where on Nimmen has parking other than running the Denver boot gauntlet.

Go take another look and maybe revise your opinion.

Parking does not spell success or failure of a business.

Warm up is a nightclub, folks shouldn't be drinking a driving there anyhow. I'm just saying to have a restaurant or cafe a car park is handy, especially somewhere like Nimmen where there are hardly any spaces.

    My opinion remains.

  12. Hang Dong means tail of the dragon. The Dragon being downtown. When it rains it rains least or last in Hang Dong, because of the tail. Or so I was told.

According to the Thai people that live here Hang Dong means 'Edge of the Forest', another translation can be 'Tail of the Forest' but they don't use that one normally. The Village of Ban Dong, which sits behind Hang Dong means 'Middle of the Forest '.

According to my "Hang Dong" neighbours its tail of the dragon, lol.

Probably means "village where silly foreigners argue on online forums". Who knows.

  13. It's kind of disappointing how little Chiangmai Insiders Tips are added here, I really can't believe that the thousands of expats living in and around Chiangmai don't have more useful information to share. Your experience will be of great value to others!

Learn Thai then you can take care of yourself and will not have to rely on the thousands of expats living in and around Chiangmai who have useful information to share.

It is not that they do not have useful information but they have little interest in sharing it with wise ass newcomers who think they are entitled to something for nothing and are disappointed when others do not satisfy their needs.

    Boloney.

    Speak for yourself.
