  1. In fact, I suspect that if it were not for the Chinese Thailand would be a long way behind where it is today.

I have spent time in China, the majority of Chinese people I met were polite and nice.

Well, you can say pretty much the same thing of much of SEA whistling.gif

I think most Chinese tourists in CM are alright and actually quite low-key, though I do wish they are more careful on the roads, either as pedestrians or motorists. At least they are not known to get drunk and start fights. Actually much prefer them than those from some other countries I see in some of the beach towns down south. However, I shall not go into which nationalities laugh.png

They just blend in with the local drivers in that department.

  2. Everything you need is no more than a couple of mouse clicks away on the computer.

CDs how quaint, get your music on a USB stick.

New cars are starting to arrive without CD players, just like when cassette tapes became obsolete.

I still purchase CDs of my favorite albums. Not as good as an LP but a quality CD on a good Hi-Fi system has much better sound than MP3. Newer audio discs often come in Blue-Ray and or 5.1 Dolby audio. Nice to have the album art and inserts. Another thing is durability. Digital files tend to become unplayable over time due to file corruption. MP3 may become obsolete. When they came out I was told that CDs would not last as well but I have some from early to mid 1980's that are in brilliant condition and play just fine.

I remember when they said tape players will be obsolete soon, back when CD's come out. Both mine and my wife cars still have them almost 30 years later. CD players will be around awhile yet.

  3. Regarding some classical CD's for the car, buy some blank CD's and i can rip some music onto them if you like. I won't be coming to pick them up or drop them off though, lol.

PM me for details if interested.

OP, DaamNaam has made a generous offer. I hope you take him up on it.

They haven't. Was a one time offer. lol

  4. G&M German Sausage Restaurant

103/1 Moo 4, Muangton, Doi Saket, Chiang Mai

    Sunday buffet.

If there is better German food in Chiang Mai we've never tasted it.

    GPS 18.7973649265, 99.1416968101 (G&M)

Best pork knuckle in CM. Even if the owner is a bit of a "knuckle" himself when tanked.

  5. Why go thru Bangkok? You can take Korean Air straight out of Chiang Mai to Seoul and connect thru that wonderful airport and totally avoid Swampy. Unfortunately, Korean doesn't serve Philly, but other airlines out of Seoul do. This is especially good if the senior citizen will be using wheelchair service, which is highly recommended. There's no charge and the passenger gets priority service thru the check-in, security and immigration lines.

Great plan. No need for Bkk. I'll take that any day.

  6. Watch the Aussie movie "The Castle" for a good airport story.

If you live under the flight path then surely you would expect aircraft noise? Hoping the airport might move seems an odd strategy as opposed to not living there in the first place.

A new airport has been on the books for a long time, my missus read something online claiming it was going ahead. Who knows?

    Tell the OP he's dreamin.....

    Ahh the serenity.

  7. We are having a similar problem and were quoted something similar. Then we had a rethink and got the original house engineer out for a look and he said as both sides were starting to lean and nobody currently lives there we should fill it up with dirt. That makes sense to me. Maybe your place is similar.

  8. Roofer, plumber, electrician, all the same here, they do not exist. No trade schools either hence nobody with a clue how to do jobs properly. You get blokes that "wing it" and sometimes pull it off, but not often.

I wish i could help but i wouldn't recommend anyone here.

  9. Powdered milk would put anywhere on the Do Not Visit list. Horrible in tea and unthinkable in espresso. This is rather a odd business practice if the place is hoping to get a secure a big farang clientele though isn't it?

The last business there was Wraps, they failed as well, heard they moved to Makro. The lady owner used to hate my guts. Real piece of work. That premises needs a juice bar or the likes.

What is it about the businesses down there that seem to alienate the potential customer base so much? Strange indeed.

The mindset of the people who live in Hang Dong - when I lived there it reminded me of East Pattaya.

    Nothing like it.

The mindset in Hang Dong? maybe at your local bar but not the rest of us.

  10. As 5 Star chicken and 7-11 are both owned by CP,i suppose

the burgers would be the same at both venues

    CP own 5-Star?

    This is devestating news.

Absolutely. CP have only chicken batteries and have terrible conditions for the chooks there.

Goodbye Gai Yang Haa Dow...Nice knowin ya.

  11. Not sure where you're coming from there bangmai?

The use of Steam is not illegal in Thailand.

I am skeptical of the 900 thb price for FarCry4, but won't lose any sleep over it.

Be skeptical all you like, its an original with the keys. At 30 USD its not exactly cheap.

  12. I'll take a look at Steam - not very interested in the PS4 as i have an i7 4 Ghz 32 mg ram monster smile.png

My son got Far Cry 4 (original) at mangpong ground floor of Airport Plaza opposite McDonalds. It was 900 baht. They had a few PC originals there, not a massive selection though. They can order games in for you too. And Boomerang have some as well, ground floor of Central Festival. Same deal , they can order in for you. They also have quite a good online shopping website.
