  1. Not sure where you're coming from there bangmai?

The use of Steam is not illegal in Thailand.

I am skeptical of the 900 thb price for FarCry4, but won't lose any sleep over it.

Be skeptical all you like, its an original with the keys. At 30 USD its not exactly cheap.

  2. I'll take a look at Steam - not very interested in the PS4 as i have an i7 4 Ghz 32 mg ram monster smile.png

My son got Far Cry 4 (original) at mangpong ground floor of Airport Plaza opposite McDonalds. It was 900 baht. They had a few PC originals there, not a massive selection though. They can order games in for you too. And Boomerang have some as well, ground floor of Central Festival. Same deal , they can order in for you. They also have quite a good online shopping website.

So you know how much it cost to make that sandwich? Complain about coffee in a sub shop? really?

  5. Pretty good. Post the Dukes Pizza and you get people comparing it to what they consider top notch Pizza all over America.

I wonder if those places compare them selves to Dukes?clap2.gif

Haha. The Dukes is good, Dukes is great. We love the Dukes Pizza...and Ragu's pizza too.

  6. funny, my post #78 is from a pizza place in New Haven, not sure which one, but she said it was well known.Daam: If you get to the East Coast try Frank Pepe's in New Haven!

I won't be on the east coast this time, only California, but thanks anyway.

  7. A woman in Makro Hang Dong had her lap dog with her this afternoon. In a shopping centre with fresh produce. The mind boggles here sometimes. lol

Yeh, the mind really boggles when one considers what can be more harmful to our health; the carefully-groomed-way-too-often-bathed little handbag dog close to the 'fresh' food or a dog on the table (which I do not condone, btw) , or the 'fresh food itself (depending where and how it is cultivated).

Was just watching a lecture recently held at the University of California, Berkeley by Michael Pollan, and it sure doesn't make you happy:

Edible Education 101 lecture, "A Brief History of the Modern Food System"

Edible Education 101 is presented by the Edible Schoolyard Project, UC Berkeley Food Institute, Berkeley College of Natural Resources, and the UC Global Food Initiative with support from the UC Berkeley Chancellor's Office, and Epstein-Roth Foundation.

Regardless of the produces quality, organic or sprayed to death, the point is no animals should be anywhere near produce, nor on a dining table. Its just insane to think that it might even be "remotely" ok.

  8. Zachary's is the topped pie.....I think Blondie's and La CoCo's are both better, and do slices.

    Here is Zachary's attachicon.gifzachary.jpg

That's the Chicago style I ate! Zachary's in Oakland or Berkeley, years ago

One on College Ave. in Oakland, and one on Solano Ave. in North Berkeley, that is either newer, or I had forgotten about it. Blondie's claims to be busiest slice place in SF at their Powell Street location.

Going to California soon. Thanks for the tips.

  9. " respectable restaurant" "ruin it for the rest of you" we are a histrionic lot. Give it a rest. You are in Thailand enjoy it.

Why make judgements of other peoples behavior. go with the flow or unhappiness may cause you to fly away back to the land of ball breakers you were so happy to escape.

Alas, it seem one takes oneself with one wherever one goes.

Go with the flow. I think that would be nice. The flow here in Thailand is not to have dogs on the table.

    Where are you from?

Indeed. Dogs on a table is ok? Going with the flow? What flow?

  10. I had a "small" pizza from The Duke's the other night. I ate all I could and took the rest home for breakfast and was full in the morning too. I have no complaint about quantity, quality or price for their pizzas.

How would you describe the prices at Dukes, ranging from inexpensive to pricy?

Well priced for the size and quality.

  11. Having spent time in New York, New Jersey and some Italian areas of South Philly, I have to admit I'm "SUB-SPOILED!" Yes, Subway will do in a pinch and even Amazing Sandwich but the Subways are skimpy on meat/cheese and neither has the crusty Italian bread that's so important for my taste in a good sub.....plus.....NO PROVOLONE!!! One poster mentioned gathering the proper ingredients yourself and assembling your own. A VERY GOOD SUGGESTION! I have to have a crusty Italian/French type roll, Provolone cheese and some olive oil with oregano as a light topping. I know I haven't been to every restaurant/sandwich shop in Chiang Mai but Ragu has, to my taste, a very good sub. I think they call it their Italian sandwich. They also have Jalepeno peppers, which I like on my sandwich, but if I take out I'll sometimes use my own Italian pepper spread. I know some critics will say, more expensive, but when I want my "ORIGINAL SUB"...........I want it to taste like I'm back in Philly!!! Plus they give you a salad. Now can someone help me out and tell me the best Philly Cheese steak in Chiang Mai?

You're not in Kansas any more Toto. Or NY for that matter.

  12. For those around Nimmen there is a (new?) place doing pizza on Nimmen itself. I think it is called "Move Upstairs" and indeed you do have to go up a flight of stairs. It's directly across the street from the Lotus Tesco. 200 baht for the pizza salami and it was pretty good. Crust was a bit doughy for my taste but still I will be going back.

They bars upstairs there were doing brisk business tonight (Friday night) but the restaurant itself was a bit quiet.

Rustica near the powerhouse gym used to be fantastic when i lived around there years ago. Is he still there?

  13. New York hands down..

Best pizza I ever had was in Genoa, Italy. Dukes is generally really good, though the last one we had there (original rest') wasn't quite up to par.

Interesting. The worst pizza I ever had was in Italy, around 1987. I probably bought it from some sort of tourist trap place.

The pizzas we see today are an Americanization of something similar that was brought over to the States by Italian immigrants, that actually originated in the middle east. The same as Chow Mein, an American manipulation of what is suppose to be authentic Chinese food.

I very much doubt that modern day pizzas are anything like or as good as the original versions from times past.

Yawn. Back to teak door please.

  14. I very much doubt that modern day pizzas are anything like or as good as the original versions from times past.

No disrespect intended, but you already said that you "hate pizza" and that they "taste like "puke". Are any pizzas lovers going to pay attention to your other views on pizza after that comment?

If anything, modern pizza is probably better than the olden days as there are so many different varieties all over the world and pizza was very basic back in the very olden days. Sure there are "standard mass produced pizzas" out there, but there are also plenty of amazing, artisan style pies in America, Australia and Italy, just for starters. Unfortunately, Thailand has not caught up yet. sad.png

The first pizza house in Australia was Toto's which opened in 1961. I don't know how it stacks up against today's pizzas but at the time it was exotic and like manna from heaven. It couldn't have been too bad as it is still going.

The original owner, Toto himself, was last heard of selling pizzas in Saigon.

UG you're right, you can't beat a good pizza thread.

Post # 37 bottom photo is at Totos in Lygon st last year. Still sensational. Best I've ever had.

  15. Yes i had mine signed last September. There is no fee but a donation is "well noted", in other words you don't donate it will be your last visit. I gave him 500 baht. It was either him or off to BKK....
