  1. Well, first off would be waking up. Then checking to make sure all of my body parts are working. If my brain works that's a plus too. After that......more trekking in Nepal and northern India. Ride my bicycle across the USA (west to east) from the Pacific ocean to the Atlantic ocean. Travel to eastern Europe and also some of the southern countries such as Armenia, Georgia, etc. That's a start for now.
  2. Are these the high quality and high value tourists that the Thai government want? I don't see either group as being big spenders. Sure, there will always be some but as a whole these two groups aren't it.
  3. Anutin would be a disaster if he assumed the role of PM. He's proven that already in his current position as Health Minister.
  4. Doesn't seem to faze the Brits on here too much. It seems most were happy flying Qatar, Etihad, EVA, or Lufthansa anyway. Better service and lower costs.
  5. I guess it all depends upon what is best for your situation. An expat can be a "retired" person, a "working businessman", a "digital nomad", "off shore oil worker", or some other combination. This make a top ten list look very confusing based on what the potential expat needs and what their lifestyle is. I still can't see how Mexico made number 2. There is just too much crime and corruption there.
  6. I hope my favorite Pattaya and Jomtien bars can open soon!
  7. It's pretty much been that way since 1962 when the military took control. Since then the country has ben plunged into darkness with very little advancement.
  8. Hate crime against Asians has been up ever since the Covid-19 pandemic began back in February 2020. This has been the findings in just about every large American city.
  9. I believe that Khun Yutthasak is overly optimistic at attaining those numbers and those types of tourists. Remember, the 40 million tourists in 2019 included the "high quality tourists who are high earners and big spenders" as well as the poorest of the poor backpackers staying in the cheapest accommodations available. Obviously there were a lot of more the latter than the former. These "high value" tourists will choose destinations with proven track records, safe tourist areas, and a lot less paperwork and hoops to jump through. Unfortunately Thailand does not tick all the boxes that these types of tourists require.
  10. I don't think this train wreck of a deal is going to work out so well. How many years do they think they will get out of them?
  11. I'm hoping that my Aussie friend will have his bar open soon. It's called Nu Bar on Soi Lengkee and he and his Thai wife run it.
  12. Poor choice of words that were chosen by the Daily News writers who reported on this. Yet ASEAN Now decided to run the article as is with no editing of the offensive words. Kind of shows what ASEAN NOW is all about. Perhaps an apology is in order? Oh wait, this is Thailand. Not going to happen.
  13. I know that Chiang Mai (pre-Covid-19) was a vey popular area for mtn biking and had a lot of mtn biking races there. They also put on some downhill events for people that are into that. As for raod cycling, yes, cycling up Doi Suthep seems to be very popular. I would suggest not cycling up Doi Suthep on a Saturday or Sunday as it gets quite busy then. I bet that Chiang Rai would be much more interesting for both road and mtn biking.
  14. Today its produce. Tomorrow will probably be other agricultural products. Later, consumer durable goods. Then you will have a whole nation singing/crying the blues.
  15. 1 Doberman and 1 Rottweiler for around the house. A Mossberg 500 and an XDM 45ACP for inside the house.
  16. Have you got a better suggestion? Phuket, Koh Samet, Koh Samui, Koh Tao, Koh Phangan, etc.
  17. It would be great if the helmet had a built in GPS tracker.
  18. NO!!! I never ever even thought about it. Terrible hours and too many days a week tied to the bar. I was better suited for the job I was doing in Thailand. Didn't even want to be a part owner or even a silent owner. Just too many problems.
  19. As was mentioned earlier, on a bill of 240 baht for a couple of beers in a bar you pay with 300 baht. Most likely you will get back two 20 baht notes and two 10 baht coins or some other combination. The idea is that you will leave all or part of the 60 baht. I don't believe the Thais think it is insulting to receive the coins they just gave you. They are hoping that you will leave all of it!
  20. Very cold for a lot of people especially in the north.
  21. I usually don't tip. At a restaurant or bar I just round up the bill to the nearest 100 baht mark. If it's a place that has a service charge and/or VAT charge then I don't tip.
  22. Bangkok definitely needs more parks. This will be a great addition. Just don't get it confused with Rama IX Park in the Prawet area of Bangkok.
  23. This makes me wonder what will the Thai government projections be for tourist arrivals in January 2022? Most likely something that will far exceed the actual numbers.
