  1. Why would anyone be donating 800K? It's in the bank under their name. Although it has to be parked there for a certain amount of time while one is going through the retirement visa process one could always withdraw the 800K and leave the country at any time with their money.
  2. Once again more confusion from the office that should know better. If they could make the requirements easier it might attract more tourists. Instead they continually modify the different types of visas and leave everyone, including themselves, confused as to what is available. This plays out with each immigration office having their own version of how it should work.
  3. None. I didn't have a marriage visa. I was on a work visa.
  4. Welcome to the club. However, my Thai wife passed away many years ago. Oh, and I met her in my country where she was a graduate student.
  5. It appears that the border near the town of Prachuap Khiri Khan is still closed to foreigners according to go-myanmar.com Arriving and departing from Myanmar (Burma) over land | Go-Myanmar.com (go-myanmar.com) "The Singkhorn Pass is only open for Myanmar and Thai residents travelling either way for up to two days. It connects Mueang Prachuap Khiri Khan (Thailand) with a very remote part Myanmar's Tanintharyi Division"
  6. Seems like the US state of Michigan kind of has things backa$$wards. They won't accept a US citizen to get divorced in Michigan despite being married there. They will however recognize a foreign document stating that they are divorced.
  7. I would suggest looking at ajarn.com for more guidance in this area. I'm pretty sure that they have had this same question asked many times.
  8. Yes, dogs can learn commands in both Thai and English. My dog understands commands in both but better in Thai. My oldest luk krung son has a dog but only speaks English to it as does his farang GF. Can tell that dog to "sit" in Thai all you want. It still stands there. Tell it to "sit" in English and it sits right away.
  9. I did that drive back in the mid 90's. It was a fun trip. Could not travel into Myanmar at that time through the land border.
  10. Had a friend who 20 years ago was a teacher at an international school. At 203cm and a size US 16 (49) shoe he didn't even bother with shoe shopping in Bangkok. He just stocked up on shoes and some other clothes when on home leave. There was no online shopping back then.
  11. Not more than half. It's still less than half but under the US Presidential electoral college system you only have to win certain states to gain enough electoral college votes (270) to win. Honesty? Not going to happen. Unfortunately it's too much to ask.
  12. Ask all the people lined up at the US/Mexico border trying to get into the USA, legally or otherwise. Or all the people who arrive on a valid visa but never return to their country. Obviously there are a lot of people that want to live there.
  13. The US Republican party will fight tooth and nail to stop any type of restrictions on firearms. It is a core value of their political platform.
  14. My Thai wife came from a fairly wealthy family. I met her in my country when she was in graduate school. Her family, Mom & Dad, gave us a house. We also bought some other houses in her name over the years. After she passed away from cancer the houses were all put in our luk krung children's names as they have Thai citizenship. We rent them out and have a relative staying in one, on a very inexpensive lease, as neither of the children who are grown up live in Thailand.
  15. Watching American politics is like waiting for a train wreck. You know it is going to be bad, you just don't know how bad.
  16. My boys went to this school. It's a huge school of roughly 6,000 students, all boys, in grades 1-12. 200 infections really isn't that many when you consider 6,000 students and about 400 staff.
  17. Looks like a lot of guys married to Thai women will have to have the Thai wives make the hotel bookings when they go somewhere in country.
  18. For many reasons, I don't think Thailand will be successful in winning the bid to host the World Cup.
  19. The woman is nothing but a train wreck. I feel sorry for anyone that gets involved with her and her poor kids who have to endure having a mother like that plastered all over the tabloids.
