Not sure I see the connection between your question and religion?

Do not want a bunch of monks coming to my house (ex mine ) moaning and chanting for money , in my eyes they are just a bunch of scrounges , I think even worse of some other major religions but am sure if I gave my true thoughts the mods would not print it.

However I will say if this is your belief good luck to you on any religion, by the way I am not a vegetarian too  , and no doubt many of you will not like that too, especially Eric bahrt the idiot Bangkok post , postbag editor favorite.

such is the man I am, by the way am 74  years young.

  3. living in Korat and when I die wish to donate my body to some hospital for students to work on , have tried the government hospital here but they only want organs , they told me contact Khon Kaen, however they only want Thai bodies. I have no use for any religion simply think rather than just burn by body it could do some good for teaching in the medical profession , can anyone help.

I have a wife but what does that good does that do? How could she help if I was totally disabled?

she has no access to my accounts.Even the money in my Thai bank would be unaccessble if I could not get down to an ATM.

faraday no treatment will be done but thanks any ways.

ulysses how do I arrange to get money transferred from a hospital bed while incapacitated?

tomwct AE in Bangkok is useless they cannot even cash the cheques.

Sorry for being so negative to everyone trying to help,

I made a trip back to Canada last year to creat some way to send money. The banker said use western union. Hows that for a good response.

All day I was dealing with ending it.I have other health problems too. I catheter because my bladder completely quit.so am pretty well house captive as it is I have pain constantly in the bladder area that the doctors say should not be there so nothing can be done to help me I just live with severe pain all the time.Who wants to be this vulnerable late in life.In a split second I could be in a bed for the rest of my life and have no access to funds to maintain me.

The bottom line on trusting someone to have access to my money  is really testing the boundaries of trust.

I talked to a friend last night and explained that if I wait to end it I may not be able to end it because of a stroke that makes it impossible to do anything. So if I want to make sure it is done I have to stop gambling on how long I have before a major stroke happens.and do it soon.

To answer your question, I have health problems too. One trip to hospital they wanted 25000 up front as a deposit, lucky for me I had my ATM card fo Bangkok bank with me and sent my long live together gf to withdraw the money. After this experience I put 200,000 into a special account with a separate atm card to be used in medical emergency only by my gf, I cancelled my regulate ATM card as there is so much fraud going on here. So far it has worked great, should I die she can also withdraw this money immediately to live on as in my will I leave everything to her however probate can take up to six months, I should add I look after her twelve year old niece and pay for her private school education, themoney will also cover any emergency there..

of course this advice will not work if you do not have access to sufficient funds however you never mentioned that, just trying to help, wish you well.

If you have good Thai friends they can always inform you about which government hospitals have the best doctors and who they are. I am elderly and have a lot of different medical problems.  I go to 3 different government hospitals where I get first class treatment at a very reasonable price. The best doctor I've ever experienced in my life is a radiologist at a government hospital with all the latest equipment. I sea a marvellous orthopaedic doctor at an army hospital. I see two different doctors at a small provincial hospital.I see a very good cardiologist at his clinic. My medical expenses including a heart operation and many other smaller operations have costed far less in total than medical insurance.  It is just a question of doing a bit of research. Also I am friendly with all my doctors and I told them that I have no insurance and very limited funds and they are very sympathetic. Unfortunately it seems that most expats base their experience on the very expensive private hospitals. Some don't even bother to request a specific doctor, in which case the hospital assigns you probably the most unpopular and incompetent. Added to this, medicine is probably the cheapest of anywhere. You simply go to one of the Chinese pharmacies in Bangkok which are all much much cheaper than any chemist.

This sounds just like me, I use the public hospital here in Korat but I visit at night where they charge me 150 baht plus fifty baht to see my doctor, the drugs cost no more than any pharmacy,  and I never wait more than twenty minutes.you want to use a private hospital they all insist on taking your blood pressure, weighing you and measurinlng how tall you are for every single visit cost 300 baht, refuse this they will not deal with you. In the public hospital walk in stick your arm in a machine it prints your blood pressure ticket free..I have also had several wrong diagnosis at a private hospital here , saw a second  doctor at the same hospital he simply said come see me at Maharat the public hospital and I can save you a  fortune which I did and he was true to his word.

what most ex pats do not understand is most of the doctors you will see in a private hospital also work in the public hospitals the only problem you will encounter is finding one you can trust, is competent and is genuinely concerned about your health, not simply interested in writing you prescriptions for which they get paid  a lot for each prescription ,once you see the cost of these to what you would pay for the same drug on the street you will understand what I am talking about.

hope this helps you sceptics about public hospitals, but be aware go in the daytime be prepared for an all day experience.

While I believe sentencing for some things int his country is ridiculously high, this one I applaud. Hopefully we will see more of the same and the thieving scum on the streets will take note and get a job, instead of ruining other peoples lives.

Who cares what the sentence is, they do not carry out the death sentence in Thailand, with all the time deductions given on prison sentences theses guys will be back in society one day. Wish that wasn't the case .

  7. I and my gf of seven years look after her sisters daughter for the past six years, simply because I can afford to send her to a private school. I first met this kid  on her fifth birthday, really learned to love her  and want her to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher, watched her grow up and the kid is a major part of our life.

some scum bag like this I would not hesitate to kill. Happy this kid was smart enough to avoid a dreadful fate..

Why get your pension paid in the UK?

I get my pension paid every 13 weeks, and paid direct in to my Krung Thai account.

Good exchange rate, and no charges whatsoever.

If you transfer in pounds the Thai bank gives you the buying rate, if you transfer in Thai baht the U.K. Bank charges you the exchange rate, you cannot avoid this nor should you expect to all banks must make money they do not work for free., they will not show their fee seperatly but for sure it will have been deducted, to think otherwise is naive to say the least.

I used to use TransferWise - who do provide a useful and very competitive sewrvice - but have found a better method.

For those who can obtain a UK Credit Card, then the best rate for a pension paid into a UK account (or, indeed for absolulety every other transfer of GBP to THB)  is to be had by obtaining either an Aqua Card or the Halifax Clarity Card.

Neither of these cards do charge for foreign transactions, INCLUDING taking cash out.  You will get the interbank rate.  The danger is that  they will charge interest from the date of the transaction until it isd paid off - but by logging in to your UK bank online and transferring enough to cover the withdrawal, there are absolutely no costs at all.  Both Cards will also allow you to overpay so as to have a credit balance if you are worried that you might forget to transfer after taking cash out.

I have both and do this regularly to maintain my THB account balance.  I also charge as many purchases as I can to one or other (and paying off in full each month).  Way better than bringing a large fistful of high denomination GBP notes every time you travel, and a saving of the TransferWise fees every time you do a transfer.

    Paul

Use ing your credit card here not a good idea as almost every business want two or three percent  for the privelage.

Essentially a variation on what was originally 'the long firm', as perfected by the criminal fraternity in the 1960's in the uk.

Falling for the scam is indicative of a lazy shallow moral free individual.

Making money from loan sharking your friend got his just desserts.

Thai criminals like criminals all over the world willl sift through the scams and try what they believe will work.

As for your insinuation re the police...clearly put in to get attention and support for your post.

I have sought the assistance of police in pattaya on several occasions and EVERY time they were unfailingly polite and did no more or less than police would in the west.

I had a bomb thrown onto my second floor balcony by a Thai soldier who was screwing my English friends Thai wife, the police wanted twenty thousand to arrest him.

I thought many of the proposals by SiamBeast were quite interesting and positive. An additional comments is that Thai Visa stop publishing the inane answers of many of the replys, (most). Many friends of mine have given up on Thai Visa because of the stupid comments published. Has the editor's education ever gone beyond kindergarten??

Amazed that this post passed the censors.
