  1. They will find someone to get the reward. Then hopefully sometime after, they find the real murderer.

It only confirms the RTP ability to investigate a crime when after 5 days they need to offer a reward.

What time would be more appropriate to offer a reward? Please give us an instant between the event and 5 days and your logic behind nominating it.

BTW rewards are normally offered to increase public assistance when initial investigations fail to turn up sufficient evidence.

BTW rewards are not paid to cops in most areas of the world.

Thailand is in a class of its own.as are the BIB.

  2. Who in the right mind would even consider reading the Mirror?

The headlines look like they would be written by a Thai or Filipino.

The article reads like it has been written by a primary school kid.

    The picture is stolen.

The whole story is just crap and badly researched.hu

BTW - in 1985 there was no Full Moon Parties on Koh Phangan,

in fact, there was no parties at all at that time.[/quot

Seems you read this crappy news sheet along with millions of your fellow Brits , so why not ask them why they are retarded.

  3. At least the economy, quarter on quarter is growing, not as fast as projected, but growing nevertheless.

Might delay any proposed interest rate hikes though which is good for our economy, but maybe not so good if you are living in Thailand and hoping for a better exchange rate.

Everything is done for the so called "economy" You know the "economy" where people up to their necks in debt look for more cheap easy money. Yes we stupid retirees that saved our money all our lives believing all that government drivel we were spoon fed about "saving" for our retirement. Well folks we are here now in the "promised" land. Your money in the bank makes almost zero interest and banks could soon charge you to park it there and the "casino" rigged stock market seems like your only option left. "Real" inflation is eating your money up not the rubbery numbers the governments spout. We get little or no cost of living increases. Now your retired in a foreign country and the government wants to penalize you for this as well. In my case my country's currency has dropped 25% thanks to previous government mismanagement of the "economy" and this one trick pony called the almighty greenback. The Federal Reserve thanks to willing politicians set up this mad mess some 100 or more years ago in a middle of the night coup. The almighty dollar being made the King of Kurrencies is the spoils of the 2nd World War. To the victor go the spoils. Yes we retirees are the dinosaurs of the world. We have a little money left but the government is staying awake nights trying to steal even that from us. As the movie states "Its a Mad Mad World"

Go get undulated and get a life.

  4. Recently I was in Nong Kai, I visited a really popular restraunt that had great food but saw two things on the menu one odd and one I would die of hunger before eating.

The first was steamed ducks bill, now who the hell would eat that, maybe the same crew that eat chicken feet.

The second was fried frog skin and it was not a typo, saw a local order this and devour it with gusto.

Myself I would rather die than eat Issan sausage, or fried bugs.

    How about you ?

What's the strangest thing or most revolting to a Western palette you have seen Thai people eat or advertis.

Please keep your answers gentlemanly if you get my drift.

  5. Another day older and deeper in debt !,if they were all

farmers they would get Government help.

    regards Worgeordie

The problem is not lack of money in magement skills, it's the simple fact of lack of money due to crap wages and a cannot survive minimum wage, workers want to send their kids to school and university like any parents.

The problem is communist controlled countries around us along with military. And their cannot live on a hundred baht a day willing to come here and work like slaves for two hundred baht a day. The rich here will never change from enslaving the working class. We will not see the end result in our life time and I am talking to ex pats retired.

  6. Sounds like you have most things down pat. If there is a lien on the property it will show up at the Land Office or if not then it is not there. The seller in our case had a bill of sale but I don't think it was notarized. Just a legal description of the property being sold as mine came with several parcels of land. A few signature and witness. The Village Headman also had to sign something. But I don't know if this was needed to make the deal. The seller will know.

As someone pointed out early, we went down with the seller to the bank and also the land office together. You need to determine who is paying the taxes. In my case the seller agreed to do that but I think the normal is you split that 50-50. Once the agreement was accepted by the Land Office we paid the seller in cash.

You may want to consider a "Usufruct" in Thailand, although I understand it may not available in Pattaya anymore. It doesn't protect you against a Divorce, as the normal is to split the property of the marriage 50-50, but it does prevent you from being evicted from the property right away. Also from unforeseen circumstance like the sudden death of your wife. Who on record is the sole property owner, since you can't own land in Thailand normally.

I used a Lawyer for that but it didn't cost much money. Perhaps around 6,000 to 8,000 Baht for several parcels of land and house. But other than that we never used a lawyer.

Get the wife to write a will leaving the property to you upon her death if you have a usufruct, you then have one year to sell it.

If no will the house will go to her next of kin.

  7. So, if the disincentive to not pay a fine is the inability to renew a driver's license, how does a ticket for driving without a license cause any incentive to pay the fine?

Driving without a license should be an arrest offense and a criminal offense.

It's good to lower the fines in an attempt to get offenders to pay. A sort of semi-amnesty. In fact, fines should be lowered permamantly, but handed out more regularly and consistently. The country would have safer roads and more money in the coffers.

You mean more money in the BIBs pockets.

  8. Well , if they find foreigners with expired visas they don't really belong here . Pay the fines and get the h.... out of here.

If you think the police give a damn about a few expired visas your dreaming, it's all a revenue gathering exercise. The way farangs are ripped off here by one and all never fails to bewilder me. The only thing that keeps people coming are the good looking chicks and food.

Don't tell me to go home I live here this is my home, but that does not mean I owe allegiance to a bunch of bandits.

  9. It sounds like you are a newbie here. If so, I suggest you rent a house for awhile to see if you like it. Unfortunately, even the best villages get broken into. The reality is what good are two sleeping security guards at the gate entrance? Interesting how some of the break-ins occur when the house is vacant and you are away for the weekend or on holiday. Are the guards the informers? Construction workers the informers? Pattaya draws in not only construction workers from Cambodia/Laos but also Thais on minimum wage working for the tourist industry. These folks also want a nice phone or new motorbike so will take the chance to burglarize a place. (bars on windows in SE Asia is common, at least it is not like living in Kenya where you may get stabbed/shot during the robbery so you also have bars on your bedroom door.)

If you have no children, I would move into a decent condo where you do not worry about being broken into.

I haven't moved there yet. My wife is a Thai national. I am just doing initial research. I keep telling her a condo would be best, but she has this thing about wanting a yard. It looks like I need to try harder selling her on a nice balcony with lots of plants is almost as good as a yard. wink.png

I have been to Pattaya a few times and Bangkok many times. I have never once felt in danger, so I was a bit surprised to see the bars on the windows. It also appears I just didn't notice them on previous trips. Thanks for the good information.

Oh but I definitely think renting is the way to go for a while, as getting a feel for the area would be nice before writing a check and then being stuck with a house I don't want. Thanks for that.

The problem is my friend you buy a house your wife owns it buy a condo you own it, figure it out you don't need to be Sherlock.

  10. What a crock. Thailand has an annual inspect requirement for vehicles older than 7 years. But of course this annual inspection is a joke from my personal experience in getting my vehicle inspected. It's kinda like the medical checkup/certificate required to get your first Thai drivers license--as long as you are breathing you will get the the medical certificate.

The govt should be cracking down on driver qualifications & training plus thorough annual vehicle inspections....but no, what do they do?....they try to help the vehicle manufacturers/dealers out by forcing the buy of newer vehicles which also generates more sales/excise tax for the govt.

But I expect this ban is only for the upcoming holiday period and then those 3000 vans will be allowed back on the road.

I would bet those three thousand vans are a fantasy.
