  1. The UK could learn so much from Europe (at least most Northern countries). Trouble is, on the forum the UK sets the standard of excellence in all things, so having an officer at school crossings is all to the good and nothing in the least shocking. In the USA we had something of the same (not sure about nowadays, nobody probably dares walk to school anymore) and even students serving as patrol "officers." I served as one myself, in the 7th grade.
  2. Yikes, dunno what carbs are.???? Embarrassing in an ace Nutritionist, 'cept we're all proud of our own cluelessness here. Veggies (also veggies under the steak), fruit (tomato), sauce, and red wine all have carbs. Yikes, dunno what a low carb diet is, either. Typical clueless attack. My own health's great, BTW, and I need no meds. I've posted all my numbers recently. Ignorance is a self-generating state of mind; one of its characteristics is that it doesn't recognize itself as ignorance. — Jane Smiley
  3. Is there no tutorial anywhere for you to study on basic market economics so that you could just figure out the answers to your questions for yourself and needn't ask here?
  4. P. D. Mangan has a good thread about insulin resistance on Twitter. Brings in a lot of science.

  6. I have decades of experience driving in Pattaya and only on a motorbike, so I'm particularly aware of safety, having never had an accident. To cut through the pettifoggery, lemme elaborate on what I said here and repeat what I've said elsewhere. Nobody said all vehicles now always come to a complete stop at the pedestrian lights and always wait until they turn green. True, some will never stop or slow down and sail right through. Those tend to be a minority of truly kamikaze Thai motorcyclists. They've always been part of the scene. It doesn't mean they didn't look. They MAY (may) have looked (quickly!) and just figured they could make it through w/o hitting anyone. Maybe no one was in the crosswalk anyway. YES, they are violating the law and should be shot. Happy? Others, bikes and cars, will slow down (though not as much as you might like), look to see if anyone is crossing or going to cross. If so, they'll stop (as in the pic I posted IN A CROSSWALK); if not, they'll go on through. Farang drivers, such myself (IF i don't think any cops are around) also do this, BTW. Very common. Part of the reason is that tourists and others press the buttons as they walk by, just for fun, with no intention of crossing. Some will stop before looking around; if no one is in the crosswalk or intending to cross, they'll go on through the light. Also typical. If it's high profile crossing w/ likelihood of a police presence, this'll be the general rule. Some Dudley Do-Rights will stay stopped the entire time even if no one is crossing or intends to cross. If one vehicle leads them on through, they may follow, unless cops are around. We'll agree to disagree on that point. The belief in Perpetual Decline infuses the thinking of many of our old posters, to be expected of them. The situation had never changed before, but it indeed has gotten quite noticeably better since the new emphasis arising from the doc's death. Even I'm being more careful. It's a good thing. Oh, I be da man. Actually, you could probably get off your a** and do the same. Pics will stop some of the lies for a day or so. I also posted shocking pics of shade on the Promenade, plenty of tourists enjoying the Promenade and the beach, and some lovely Russian hotties on the beach as well. I think we had a few balcony jumpers reported later that day.
  7. Reminds me of Yummy yummy yummy I got love in my tummy. Never cared for that bubble gum music. Like @ozimoronI grew up. Unlike yourself, just being fed that junk, my definition of yummy changed soon as I became a man able to feed myself. Oops, I did it again. Knickers twisting time. Yummy to the last bite, just didn't miss your white bread, mandatory potatoes, Yorkshire pudding ????, fries in the least. Believe it or not.
  8. We aren't confined here on the forum only to posting what any particular percentage is interested in, duh. Besides, I have indeed promoted our favored goal and given three of our canonical Scientific Principles.
  9. Police found no evidence of a crime. Medical profs found no evidence of anything to indicate other than a natural death. No, they would not conduct an autopsy on scene in the bungalow. They may do so later, however. Relatives and the Embassy can get involved. If they do, they do. If they don't, they don't. Wait and see.
  10. The topic IS white and therefore the appropiate focus. The suggestion to substitute wholemeal is typical and expected. Indeed, our ace Nutritionists always recommend "whole foods," unable to grasp the concept and advantages of just cutting out sugars and starches in general. Nobody is listening to anyone here anyway, so I wouldn't get my knickers into such a twist.
  11. Laughable what our ace Nutritionists consider science here. Blind leading the blind. The Relative actually #3 in our mighty ANF Principles of Longevity Science designed to ensure a short but happy life with medications to alleviate the symptoms of various preventable illnesses. 3. The Relative A relative of mine did nothing special and lived to 95. Oh, I will too. And is peripherally related to #4, The Guys. 4. The Guys I know some guys who seemed healthy but have already died.
  12. Yeah, I knew a couple of diabetics who'd inject themselves with more insulin so they could continue eating ice cream and high carb foods. That's how stupid they were. Not surprisingly, both died early. Not during a bonk, however. Not in shape for that.
  13. Long way in terms of meds, but we're not hearing the timeframe here. Better just to get down to zero, that way 5 x 0 = 0. Insulin resistance has a lot of negative effects I needn't list here.
  14. The media is doing the haunting for obvious marketing reasons. All that can be done in this case is being done.
  15. Yes, Pattaya is in the news daily in the Pattaya news forum. Seems unsurprising, no? Rather like Brighton & Hove news being reported daily at Brighton and Hove News. It's often good. Pay no attn to the spins put on it by our silly cynics, trolls, bashers, and wannabe clowns. Even the OP has its good aspects: the Russian tourists rushed to help, the body was recovered quickly, and the pic shows fairly good-looking Russian tourists--all in all, a contrast to the narrative constantly promoted by our anti-Russian bigots.
  16. The George Burns Hail Mary is first among the Principles of ANF Poster Longevity Science. Smoke, drink, eat whatever you want. Take your meds (as you do), suffer chronic diseases early, have a short but happy life and die suddenly with a smile on your face during a bonk. You've lived the dream. Moderate heroin, LOL. It was only after i STOPPED eating the heart healthy whole grains and omega 6 oils in moderation that I was able to moderate my eating of everything else. Once my insulin levels and IR dropped into normal range so did my appetite. —https://www.dietdoctor.com/why-everything-in-moderation-is-terrible-diet-advice Why not just substitute more nutritionally efficient foods for all the starch and sugars anyway and be done with them? As for moderation in general, the principle of moderation (also beloved by ANF Nutritionists) tends not to work so well either, akin to “push away from the table.” “A Little Bite Won’t Hurt”: The Failure of Moderation
  17. Eat less and you will. Are we done, or do we need a mod to step in?
  18. "The Sugar Nutrition Resource Centre, originally the Sugar Research Advisory Service, is funded by Sugar Australia and New Zealand Sugar. " Hee hee. But nothing in the above suggests eating white bread is a good idea. Must achieve a balanced diet? By whose definition. OH--the lobbyist-funded Food Pyramid.???? And brown isn't doing you much better. Brown bread is sorta the filtered cigarette version of white. Insulin resistance may be behind one's great attraction to high glycemic foods. Keep insulin levels consistently low and it goes away.
  19. You dunno how "normal" he was. As other posters have noted, he looks rather old for his age. No, it's not from "being out in the sun." I'd not be surprised if he drank too much or even smoked. No, he didn't have to have. Yes, the George Burns Hail Mary is first among the Principles of ANF Poster Longevity Science. But useless speculation is what we do.
  20. Not good 'nuff. You've missed a couple of important steps. Not to feel bad: even our most authoritative Road Crossing Safety Instructors here always do as well. "The life you save could be your own." Lemme help:
  21. No, what really happened was that posters began lying about their not working after two weeks. Thereafter, the "lights don't work" and "drivers don't stop for the lights" became another of those beloved forum myths (one of many from the ANF Forum Poster Nothing Works Principle) for a knee-jerk whenever the subject arises. Here's a pic from 2013 showing the lights working: and here's a pic of drivers stopping for that light: Quibbles aside (let them begin), overall they worked and drivers mostly stopped if someone could be seen crossing or about to cross. Problem is, stupid tourists push the buttons as they pass by just for fun and vandalism. And drivers are indeed getting used to stopping for the crosswalks if someone's crossing and esp. if there's a light as well. Old habits die hard, as I personally can attest. The gov't has certainly made a move in the right direction. Sneers from our peanut gallery are inevitable and expected.
  22. No. The usual tests (FBS, HbA1c) aren't entirely accurate. Better: oral glucose tolerance test. You may, and probably do if you've just followed the crowd, have insulin resistance doing damage with no obvious indications, and it well may, owing to all the insulin spikes, eventually develop into pre-diabetes--to be avoided.
  23. The opposite. What you put on it, if low glycemic, is no problem until the conveyance is added to it.
  24. You're so right. Foreigners should be guaranteed immortality for the duration of their stay in Thailand. Should pack 'em in.
