Fifteen Foreign Riders Arrested in Patong Breaking Traffic Rules
BigStar replied to webfact's topic in Phuket News
Not really, as it isn't the subject of the article. The readership doesn't care about Thais, just our own. -
Quite a few in the UK, evidently. People in the UK owed £1,836.4 billion at the end of December 2023. This is up by £10.9 billion from £1,825.4 billion at the end of December 2022, an extra £205.37 per UK adult over the year. The average total debt per household, including mortgages, was £65,395. --https://themoneycharity.org.uk/money-statistics/ So if this lady is able to save and avoid the debt trap, good on 'er.

Why is Windows better than Linux-Desktop for 70-year-olds?
BigStar replied to GammaGlobulin's topic in IT and Computers
What was the saying? Not impressed with your Microsoft-trained thinking skills here. If you wish to know the real reasons, you can read through threads such as What made you leave Windows/macOS for Linux? Nonsense. Some Linux users, notably programmers, make extensive use of Linux shell commands and scripts, yes. The average desktop user doesn't, and so that usage in particular can't be a point of pride. Now Linux users may pride themselves on their expertise in general, having a large percentage of geeks among the population. But M'soft fanbois can be just as arrogant and overbearing. One can also argue that Linux isn't necessarily less convenient and is in some ways more convenient. Users give up more than just money, though they may not be aware of it. Laughable ignorance. You really don't belong in this thread. The (low) market share of Linux on the desktop has ticked up recently, BTW. -
Your old Macrium, if the free edition, still worked.

Macrium Reflect Free (for personal use) doesn't expire. Any trial premium features do. From the OP you don't need any premium features.

Suspect "bob smith" is a paid shill. So yes, management's happy getting a return. -
True. Cloned a disk just yesterday with it.

You're being wound up by one of the major trolls on the forum. Best not waste your time. -
I'm not struggling w/ my Win10 at all. It's tuned, tweaked, and beautiful. To address your consternation: though I keep up with the news, I've yet to find any reason to bother changing to Win11 and going through the process of civilizing it. Nor do I need to feel all hi tech and cutting edge. I have some interesting things to learn about customizing the KDE interface on my OpenSUSE when I get around to it. Sigh. Life's good in Pattaya. Now, I don't care what OS anyone else is using. But here ya go: Latest Windows 11 Update Causing BSODs, Performance Issues for Some Users Discussion thread here: https://reddit.com/r/Windows11/comments/1bd37fi/cumulative_updates_march_12th_2024/ And there's plenty of hate for Win11 out there: Why do people still hate windows 11? : r/Windows11 Reddit

Sometimes they are and sometimes not. 1500 or more updates (including all the software updates--conveniently) might take 20 min to download and install, depending on speed of repositories. And Nvidia will demand you assent to the T&C several times, if you have Nvidia proprietary drivers. Both Windows and Linux downloads and installation of updates take place in the background. No real issue there. But Windows nags you and then will also require a reboot after the Patch Tuesday or .NET framework updates. You can put that off indefinitely but finally realize by the time the next Patch Tuesday rolls around that you've waited long enough. 'Course, many of our posters turn off their computers every night anyway to save a few satang on their electric bills, so this isn't much of an issue either. Drama may accompany updates w/ either. For non-expert Linux users, minimizing the drama comes to the forefront. But

It's amusing, but predictable, how so many posters revel in the satisfaction of using a DL over an utterly useless pink card, but no one ever cares in the slightest that a DL isn't an ID card. No one cares that using a copy of a passport isn't using the passport itself. It's ONLY the use of pink card that gets our knickers all in a twist. Now why is that?

qBittorrent will show you which files are incomplete. If you're lucky, they could be few, and perhaps you can download them, or substitutes, using a different torrent from another server. Otherwise, a seeder can possibly come back online weeks later. A leecher may have been able to complete the download somehow. So if it's something you really want, I'd just be patient a while.
-
Yawn. As I noted, and you ignored, I've used it in various provinces around Thailand for checking into hotels. So I'll just continue doing so, even though you may think it doesn't work. The OP may of course call the hotel of interest and see if a pink card will be accepted before he attempts to check in. Will that be a problem for you?
-
All my sentences are correct. And so you've been fortunate w/o knowing the basics. Now you've learned that you aren't guaranteed seeders for a torrent file, AND you aren't guaranteed that one or more seeders will be continuing to share the files until you finish downloading them. They may come back online in the future OR they may not.
-
Yes. Your problem was And the reason is that you have no seeders sharing the other 1.5 of THAT series right now. The continuing puzzlement may be put down not to the computer but simply to the user himself and his limited understanding of how torrent downloading works. You may know that common acronym used in tech support: PEBCAK.
-
No, you're probably confusing with a DL issued on basis of yellow book/pink card as proof of residence. That's actually a myth that's been debunked in a recent pink card thread. I've used mine in different areas, though if I'm traveling by plane, or traveling far upcountry, I have a PP w/ me anyway. Others may give their experience.
-
A typical fantasy characteristic of our victims of PCDS (Pink Card Derangement Syndrome). Let's try to stay on topic. That hotels often do accept pink cards for check in is a fact. And I always use mine nowadays. It IS one of several methods. You may state your method and begone.

You know the problem now.
