A few days ago I saw a post in my Facebook news feed saying that 7-11 memberships are now available to foreigners. While it was a 3rd party post, it had an authentic look to it, and I said to myself "What would anyone stand to gain from posting this, if it isn't true ?" I went to my nearest 7-11 (where I am known), and spoke to the co-owner. She gave me a "mai dai !". That was not completely unexpected. I contacted 7-11 on Facebook. The person who replied said I could get it, provided I have a Thai phone number. (Thai ID card not required) After I told them what had happened, they said they would get back to me, but they haven't. Obviously, I can't go in to a 7-11, run around the counter, and seize the keyboard to try and do it myself. Has anyone succeeded in doing this, particularly in Bangkok ? I spend enough there that it would probably be worthwhile to travel (within reason) to get this accomplished.

Bank Account and proof of Visa status
allane replied to redwhiteandblue's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
My OP referred to TTB. I have had an account at Kasikorn for 20 yrs. I was in a branch a few months ago; I don't remember having to enter my phone number to get a queue ticket. -
Bank Account and proof of Visa status
allane replied to redwhiteandblue's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
I had two relatively inactive accounts with TTB. At one point, they told me to either become more active, or they would close the accounts. I did the latter. it had nothing to do with my visa Instead of using technology to help their customers, they are using it to hassle them. The last few times I visited (before closure) I was required to enter my phone number in their queue machine, before I could even get a queue ticket. You might want to take your business elsewhere. None of the other banks I deal with do that. -
Bank holidays next week
allane replied to Fabio1980's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I have answered this on the Thai Visa page. -
Thank you. My friend has now succeeded in making the card refillable. So, this card can now be used like a regular Visa card to purchase from shops and restaurants ?
-
An off topic, but related question: A friend just bought a refillable, reusable card (for the MRT only). It has a Visa logo on the front, a 16 digit Visa-like number on the back, and a CVV. But it is not linked to his bank account, so is not a debit card. And he was asked no questions about his employment or salary, so it is not a credit card either. Does anyone know what exactly this card is ?

Thailand Post. Ask for "Logistpost" at the counter where they sell cardboard boxes.

Will Mon. June 2, 2025 be an extra holiday ?
allane replied to allane's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Just checked the Bank of Thailand website. June 2, 2025 is a special holiday. Perhaps leave my post in place to remind others. -
Ability to work for two companies
allane replied to Ed1978's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Yes. You can have a second employer added to your Work Permit, with written permission from your employer. I know someone who did it. -
I have received conflicting information in response to the following question: Is gay marriage possible in Thailand, if both partners are resident foreigners on one year visa extensions ? Please cite your source. I am not interested in rumours, gossip or hearsay.

Songran, and allowing for one extra day before and after, should be no longer than Apr. 11 - 17. You will be fine.

Working Visa - Earliest Issue Date
allane replied to stament's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Ask the Thai Embassy or Consulate you intend to use. -
I guess someone has to answer this. It isn't the first time I've had to answer my own question. I didn't see anything at Mabookrong. At Silom Complex,Saladaeng BTS Station: Double A Photocopying 4th Floor

Where to get laminating done ? Prefer west of the river, or central Bangkok. Thank you.

Probably a longshot: I used to buy custom made insoles from a foreigner in Bangkok. He has now sold the business, apparently to a medical centre in a "remote" section of Nonthaburi. I have had no dealings with the business since it changed hands. I do have contact info. for someone there, who I presume can speak English. Send me a private E-mail if you would like it.

Unused bank account
allane replied to Adrian78's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
That should be enough, unless you are explicitly warned that your account is facing closure for inactivity. (That can happen if the bank has your mobile phone number.) -
I don't mean a shoe bag for one pair of shoes. I mean the sort of large wall-hanging shoe bag which might hold 8 - 12 pair of shoes. Any idea for a source ?

For The Transport Company (baw-khaw-saw): busticket.in.th Most private bus companies have their own websites. -
Update: This was a serious bus accident in Salavan province, across the border from Ubon Ratchathani. Forty persons injured, thirteen of them seriously. The latter are in the hospital mentioned in my previous post. More information is available on nationthailand.com, and from Lao media.
