  1. 1. I have seen a list. I believe that all adjacent provinces are included in "Bangkok" for ATM charge purposes. I used to work in Nonthaburi while living in Bangkok. I never paid out of province fees in either place.

    2. The Bank of Thailand has four cheque clearing centres, in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen and Hat Yai.

    3. On at least one occasion, I have opened an account in a province where I did not reside. they are usually more concerned with establishing the fact that you reside here.  Exactly where you reside doesn't matter.

  2. I'm  Canadian. My Canadian lawyer prepared a will and sent it to me. I and 2 witnesses signed everything that needed to be signed at the Canadian Embassy in Bangkok, then sent it back.

Check if witnesses are required, if you decide to go this route.

I am not sure you even need a will. In Canada, in the absence of a will, everything goes automatically to the surviving spouse (if there is one), or to the minor children (if there is not.)

  3. Is the wage from 2 - 3 hrs./week enough to support yourself ?  Assuming it isn't, how will you be supporting yourself ?  Making another assumption, I presume you will be drawing down the B 800,000 you have in the bank.  Once that is gone, in 1 - 2 yrs., what will you do after that ?

I switched from an Extension for Retirement to one for Employment, but I was being paid over B 18,000/mo. or approximately B 4600/week. on a 12 month basis.  I have now switched back to Retirement.

  4. Copy of last 3 months, bankbook - get it issued on the day if possible. Most Immigration offices will accept from the previous business day, but you may be asked to do a deposit or withdrawal on the day.  So, have a little over B 800,000, so you can do a withdrawal. You also need a copy of the front ID page of your bankbook.  I get the bank staff to put their  seal and initials on each page.

Bank Letter - this confirms your bank balance on the day it was written.  Get it on the day if possible, or one business day prior.  I think most banks will issue this letter from any branch, but you might check with your bank first, to see if it has to be done at your home branch.

    Thank you for feedback.

Since it was a longish post, all my questions might be hard to see, so I have put them down below, in case anyone knows the answers.

    ·       --Cancel Work permit form - is there a specific form number for this?

    ·       -Cancel current extensions of stay - is there a specific form number for this?

-Are any other forms needed such as tax forms, etc.?

-Does 2 step process have to take place on same day?

    Thank you for any advice.

When you cancel your Work Permit at the Labour Dept., you will be handed a receipt (Taw Daw 10). That is your proof that you have cancelled it; take it to Immigration with you.  The application form for your new Extension will be given to you at the Immigration office. If you want to avoid an overstay fine, you need to do it all in one day.  Be at the Labour dept. office when it opens at 8:30 a.m.  cancellation takes only a few minutes.  Have a letter from your employer with you stating your day of work.

Lucky me, my documents are British! Just found the information I need on the British government's website.

Thanks for the tip on the police check. I'll look into how I can get this done. What if the police report isn't in English? How do I then get it translated in the right way?

Is there a need for the police check to be certified/legalised also?

I am presuming a police check that is not in Thai or English is going to need to be translated.  I see nothing wrong with binding your documents together.  No need to include the TEFL Certificate; it is not legally required.

  7. - Authentication of degrees and transcripts is generally required. The embassies of most countries will usually do this for you by either having you swear an oath that the documents are authentic, or checking back with the issuing institution.  A notable exception is the British Embassy. You should bring original documents with you.  Photocopies and computer downloads are not accepted.  The authorities want to seethe embossed seal of the institution.

Re: police check - get one from the country where you are now.  A Thai police check, by itself,  will not be accepted unless you have been in Thailand at least 6 mo.
