If you are writing these stories to get my sympathy, it is not working. I have a some sympathy for anyone who left in 2019, but it ends there. If you left this year, could you not have foreseen how this thing might have gone ? Even if you could not have seen the exact contours, you should have seen the possibilities.
I was invited in early March to accompany another foreigner who was planning a trip out of Thailand in early April. I "graciously declined". Actually, I did more than that; I successfully persuaded him not to leave. He is still thanking me, though he is in a category where he would have been able to return by now. However, he might have lost his job before he was able to get back.
I have lived in Thailand for 25 years, and never bought a condominium here. Now you know one of the reasons why.

Why should the EU negotiate with an ex-member, that voted to leave ? They should let Britain stand outside in the cold for twenty or twenty-five years. Then maybe let them back in, if they ask nicely.

Some possible explanations:
1. Widespread ignoring of the rules, by both citizens and local authorities.
2. More crowding on public transport, other public areas, and in private housing.
3. A lower level of public health; those with an underlying disease are more vulnerable to Covid-19.
4. Due to their proficiency in English, combined with relative poverty, The Philippines might have a higher percentage of their labour force working abroad than any other country on earth. I have seen suggestions as high as 10%. Perhaps a large number of their cases are repatriates (Filipino's who caught Covid-19 abroad.) Even in Thailand, repatriates now account for about 15% of total cases.

Just wanted to check. So as I understand this weekend is normal no holidays? Next weekend Friday is holiday?
Yes. See Post # 5 above.

I just spoke with them by phone. They will be removing their ATM's. If you have an ATM card you can still use it. I did not ask if ATM cards will be replaced after their expiry date.

It was either the Thai Govt or TAT who last week released the numbers on those who wanted to apply for the STV as well as the numbers of Thai Elite members who have expressed a desire to come to Thailand. IIRC there were less than 1500 requests worldwide for the STV, and only some 440 Thai Elite members expressed any interest in coming to Thailand at this time.
There was likely a very big difference between the number who asked for information about the STV, and the number who went any further, once they had read about all the hoops they would have to jump through.

bbc.com/weather/map - map can be centred on your area and enlarged. I have found it to be accurate during recent storms.
tmd.go.th - good enough for everyday use.

I have been on Thai trains that have compartments. I think they are offered on many, if not most of the overnight trains that serve southern Thailand, and northern Thailand too. Maybe not as many on trains to the Northeast. Look on any of the routes where you can buy a trip of 8 hours or more. I don't think they will sell a compartment for trips of say, 6 hours or less, because they then have a hard time selling it to someone else for the remainder of the journey. (You are free to get off the train at any point, but I think you have to pay for a minimum journey of say 6 hrs. or so.)

Is your school's advice based on a recent consultation with your local Immigration Office, or simply on past practice ? I am aware of a few people who have switched from "Tourist Exempt" to Non-Immigrant "B" without leaving Thailand. Giving your location might elicit replies from those with local knowledge.

Tues. Oct. 13 (Death Anniversary of King Bhumiphon Adulyadeth) is supposed to be a day of solemn remembrance. Don't put your money on an extra holiday the day before. And, if one was going to be announced, in all likelihood it would have been announced before the November extra holidays were announced. (See Posts 4 and 5 above.)

If you want a country where everything works, you have chosen the wrong one.
To answer your question: an uneducated population that doesn't want to take responsibility for anything, coupled with second-rate materials, shoddy workmanship, and faked inspections.

By the time first flight day arrives (for one of the European countries), most of them will be in lockdown, and people won't be able to get to their nearest airport, never mind to Thailand. You read it here first.

I asked the question about if you had a pension because there is also a combination method; the B 800,000 requirement for an Extension of Stay - retirement (aka "Retirement visa) can be met by any combination of money in the bank and monthly pension income that totals B 800,000. You will need a letter from whatever entity provides the pension confirming the amount, and then certified by whatever government agency is empowered to do that. Regarding the money in the bank, best to save some paper proof of your transferring those funds to a Thai bank account. There is a possibility that you will be asked to prove the money came from outside of Thailand.

Are you receiving a pension ?
-
Destination country ? Does the recipient have a bank account ?
-
I don't know the answer to your question. But, why don't you jointly start a new account, instead of trying to convince the bank to modify the existing one ?
Be aware - for a very obvious reason, you can't use a joint account for Immigration purposes.

've heard that your exit date is tied to work permit. But Immigration gave the March 2021 stamp, knowing that the work permit expires in December.
Interesting. In 25 yrs. here, I've never heard of this. Why did Immigration give him an extension that runs beyond the expiry date of the Work Permit ? Or, maybe he is working on a Marriage extension ? If that is the case, he can remain in Thailand on that basis.

Oct. 2 on my calendar, but it is not a statutory holiday.
-
All Thai schools are required to provide a specified number of instructional hours per year. I taught at four different Thai high schools in three different provinces. Three of these were essentially the same in terms of holidays: - all of April with possibly a few days of either March, May or both, so 5 - 6 weeks
- one week in late October, so 9 - 10 days including the weekends and Chulalongkorn Day (Oct.23
Statutory Holiday.)
At one school, we didn't have to return from our long holiday until about June 1, but we had to work a longer workday.
The dates I am giving you are for a normal school year. This year has been affected by Covid - 19, which delayed the start of the school year by 6 -7 weeks. The midterm break has been pushed back to start approx. Nov, 1. And, I think most schools will be working more or less until Songkran. Any that are not doing that may have some combination of a longer school day or compulsory Saturday classes.

I am always amused by this sort of article, always written by a farang of course.
- there was essentially nothing here until the farang arrived
- whatever small number of farang were here at that moment completely changed the course of Thai history.
I had wondered why this road was sometimes labelled as "New Road" on English-language maps. Do Thai taxi drivers or any other Thai's use that name ? Going off-topic, but why are the roads with "Phraram" in their name rendered as "Rama" on English-language maps. I soon found out after my arrival in Bangkok that no Thai person understands "Rama".

I am not in Pattaya. If you can find a photocopy shop, they might have a computer terminal where you can download, print and copy. Not an internet cafe per se, but it might serve the purpose.

I do not have personal experience on this subject, but I have heard that Tisco Finance will sometimes lend to a foreigner that the banks won't touch.

The answer can vary from branch to branch. Giving your location might elicit replies from those with local knowledge. If Bangkok, give the name of your district, a main intersection, or landmark building. It is a big city.
