Do you think I'd actually get fewer problems from the police by having a local plate? Or are there other considerations that I'm missing?

It won't make any difference to the police where the bike it registered...but if should you want to change to plates to Surat at a later date you have to do two trips over to Surat Thani to do this (it can't be done on Samui).

I'm going to the Honda dealer later in the day and I'll see how much their mark-up is on the new CRF300L, I know you want a Yam but it should give you a rough idea of what to expect.

It has already left Bangkok Post Center and it's not express.( It's on the way to me..)

No mention of anything that can be called tax. It should be here on Monday.

Just use the Thai Post 'Track & Trace' website (you can change to English in the top RH corner)...cut n paste the USPS tracking number in and you'll see exactly where your shipment is.

    https://track.thailandpost.co.th/

If you get hit for duty it'll be about 25%...the bit that gets my goat is if the total price on the customs declaration includes postage they tax you on that total, including the postage.

I've ordered a two in two exhaust for my bike and tracking the parcel, via USPS shows that it's currently "held in customs."

Shortly before I received the message Customs Clearance Thailand at 09.51. Is that the normal procedure, or is there something wrong?

The held in customs message was written today, at 10.25 am.

Does anybody here have an idea how they usually handle it?

USPS shipments are handled by Thai Post, if you're over the import limit (Baht 1,500 I think it is) you'll receive a bill from your friendly postman, you just take that bill to the post office, pay the duty (take your passport) and that's it.

Courier companies like Fedex, DHL etc normally make you pay up front before the shipment will be released from customs.

We see the Thais not wearing helmets, the Thais have not had the education we westerners have been given, I can only assume all of those westerners not wearing helmets have no education.

It's got nothing to do with education, westerners are told/forced to wear crash helmets, if you don't you will be fined and have points added to your licence...win enough points and your licence will be taken away.

Many moons ago when I was leaning to ride there were no crash helmets (for motor bikes or bicycles) and I fell off both on regular occasions with no serious harm done (as did just about everybody I knew)...may I suggest that you go back to the nanny state from whence you came and whine about the conditions there...the audience there will be so much more appreciative

Did you find getting all the parts OK.

I want to order valve cam shims for my Honda next year.

If you go onto the Fowlers online parts page and look up your bike it tells you if the parts are still available...

    https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/browser/manufacturer/honda

I've seen you mention that yours is a 1993...not sure which country it was from so I used the UK one...

    https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/4852824/cbr900rrp-1993-e/camshaftvalve

For some reason it only lists the 2.800 shim...but if you click on it it tells you which other models use that shim

    https://www.fowlersparts.co.uk/parts/view/14965KT7013

At the bottom of that page it lists the Honda, CB1000RA, 2018, Thailand, CANDY CHROMOSPHERE RED

And if you follow that link you get a list of all the shims

Interesting. From what i found on Google it looks like the CRF300L also only comes in the low version here in Thailand. But the CRF250/300 Rally seems to have the regular height.

That is true...there's a couple of ways to get an 'L' back up to regular height, either fit the longer rods to the front forks and a rear shock for a pre 17 model...or fit a lift kit (after-market made here in Thailand)

    Anything else?

Basically just the joy of riding a monster of a bike, pure and simple.

My last bike in UK was a FJ1200 Yam, hardly rode it, except once a year we used to go touring in France, Spain Italy etc...that was what that bike was for.

I have a 900 Triumph, I hardly ride that here on the island, but a few times a year we go off touring...that's what that bike is for.

The Triumph Rocket 3 exists for pure enjoyment, plain and simple, it's not practical and never will be...but as I said before, if I had oodles of spare cash I'd have one

has anyhow tried? does it work or any tips how to make it quieter without buy the stock pipe?

You obviously didn't read the comments in your link

Fast delivery, product is good quality but for my pipe the sound didn’t go down very much. It might depend on the pipe that you have! FYI my pipe was a Leo Vince gp corsa for a cb500x. It brings the noise level down a bit, but not enough for me to use! I would from 100% it goes down in sound to around 90% or 80%.

Any news on the price for the new 2021 Honda Grom

I saw a couple of them in the local Honda dealer as I drove past the other day...not a lot of point asking the price from them as they always add a few 1,000 just because they can  ????

    According to the link below...

    Quote

In the case of the price; A.P Honda (Honda Thailand) announced the new Honda Grom will be going on sale for; 77,400 Thai baht for the ABS variant and  69,900 baht for the standard version starting October 2021.

The handlebar can be a bit wider as on the picture attached, no problem.

Some of the older Triumphs used the style of bar your looking for...if the ones below are somewhere close at least you'll be able to do a search for the correct bike should the shipping on these be too much (the tax on £30 quid will be minimal)

    More bars here...

It's weird as it seems like Motoz makes their tires in a factory in Thailand but doesn't seem to have a dealer listed for Thailand.

That they do...they were available off Facebook unofficially, whether these were seconds or of out the back door we were never sure...but most of our lot are using Duro's now and they can be had off Lazada and are cheap as chips for a pair
