  1. It has little to do with 'empire', you would think if the Dutch, with a GDP a third the size of the UK, can resist selling up and moving into a condo the UK might show a little more mettle.
  2. That's your interpretation, however a hermit is simply a person who chooses to live a solitary life, a withdrawal from social interaction and worldly life, possibly for spiritual reasons (mental health). That could equally be living in a caravan half way up a mountain as retreating to a bedsit in Luton, personally I'd prefer the former, your situation is obviously the latter.
  3. So long as the hermit isn't an anchorite they can do stuff out doors, just solitary, not social stuff.
  4. Does the hermit job description preclude doing stuff?
  5. "The lady doth protest too much, methinks." Of course it was a mammoth loss of prestige having to flog off the old embassy compound, you can paint it whatever colour you wish
  6. No ways he would stray that far south, no further than Krabi
  7. Yes, Brioni made in Italy (now +20% tariff)
  8. Actually, given he just says 'the South', assuming that's PKK and down, that covers an area of over 2,000km2 , larger than Isaan (NE Thailand), bigger than CM/CR NW Thailand too.
  9. Sure it's not the Devil looking out for him!
  10. It's only for the week. Here we've got convoys, with a front truck playing music followed by another with the candidate standing in the tray shouting his slogans (they're all men) followed in turn by another full of supporters and hangers on giving out leaflets.
  11. I don't, expensive farang ghetto
  12. Exactly where my location says I do, Hat Yai
  13. Seeing as the UK took 3 years for a full trade deal with India recently announced, whatever they've just knocked up with the Americans ain't going to be 'full and comprehensive' - possibly full of something
  14. German, Japanese, Korean or whatever, there's no money to be made from inefficiency, you want them to run a business or a charity?
  15. When BMW revitalised the Cowley factory producing the Mini it didn't bring jobs. Instead it went from this To this
  16. Ours is probably 25 years old, no lights, only addition are the pots the legs stand in that you keep topped up with water to keep ants out. People in the west have just gone soft.
  17. Couple years since I last changed phones but my recollection of moving Samsung to Samsung was surprisingly painless.
  18. Other way round I think, the modern Western fixation with trying to live in a totally sanitised environment means westerners have lost that immunity or resilience to bacteria.
  19. It's like this one from Watsadu.
  20. Same here, though food isn't left out on the table, ants would be at it by morning, but we have a cabinet in the kitchen, metal sides with ventilation mesh, glass doors, the legs sit in little pots you fill with water to keep the ants away. Uneaten food goes in there, used up next day. In 20 years no one's died.
  21. Nothing good happens that time of the morning. He should have quit a couple of hours earlier.
  22. As suggested above one Will for assets in the UK, second Will covering assets in Thailand, and make sure the wife makes a Thai Will too - saves any potential dramas with Thai family looking for a share
  23. "Transaction fee for SWIFT payments We charge a £15 transaction fee for SWIFT payments." https://www.nationwide.co.uk/help/payments/swift-sepa-international-payments/ Kasikorn and Krungsri both charge a flat fee of Bht500, you get the prevailing TT Rate.
  24. Bet you they were made in China
  25. I'd say the general observation still holds true. I work in the mining industry, on several projects globally, and my observation is that the number of tattoos correlates with education level; the fewer the greater the chance the person holds at least one degree. Yes there are exceptions, so it's not a matter of discrimination, rather that better educated generally people don't get tattooed or have very few.
