Not sure what you mean by proof of sddress? All I have ever done is write it on my 90 day report That is the only proof I have ever been ask for. Now I simply send in the 90 day report filled out by mail. Maybe I am missing something in this thread? What report are you talking about here? I am confused. Is there another report you do I donot do?

Unless I'm very much mistaken, tourists cannot apply for a Thai drivers license. But you say you have your residents affidavit (whatever that is) so maybe not a problem.

Also, I renewed my five year license in Phuket a week ago and proof of address is required. Either produce a residents or house book or a copy of your lease - in the case of the latter you will also need a copy of the property owners ID card, something that's hard to get where the landlord is a farang who lives overseas!

Also, also - photo's no longer needed for new style license and health certificate not needed either. Maybe the rules are different elsewhere but what I have described is what I required last week in Phuket and are in line with what others have posted recently in some other parts of the country.

Thought after reading chiang mai reply I should add one other thing. It seems by his reply that different offices have different requirements. I got mine yesterday as stated . I went there the day before I applied and ask the official what I needed then went back yesterday with everything he said I needed 'so easy.' The house book part I was told is only on first application once you have the license it is understood you have residence, being that you could not receive the first license without showing place of residence. That said even residence can be bypassed by simply getting a letter from embassy asking for help in obtaining a thai drivers license, but you must be in possession of a drivers license from your own country that you can present as proof of owning a license.

I would like to add to add something for clarification here about the lawyer. Have the lawyer present just to state he is there simply to help clarify any misunderstannding of what is needed or point out the area of the problem.I amnot suggesting going in and stating, I brought my lawyer here to sort this out and appear hostile or aggressive. If anyone is misinforming you he should be able to point it out and get it fixed. If they sold a motorcycle that there is a true ownership problem I would want to know and not be lead around like a blind man depending on others to lead me. If there is a problem with true ownership then sooner or later it has to surface correct.

Are you aware people here hold motorcyles as collateral on loans and when payment fails sell the motorcycle? You are in potential very awkward place. I would clear it up immediately.

I renewed mine yesterday. I needed 2 photocopies of my passport an 2 copies of my visa plus medical from doctor. The reason I needed 2 copies of passport and visa was one for motorcycle license and one for vehicles like cars and trucks,. They take the photo no problem there. Cosr 480 baht per license.Done in 10 minutes. Just give them old license and paper work goes quickly.

Got my monthly bill today all is well everything up to date and no charges. That problem is solved. I quess mentioning to the woman who started the whole mess a possible 0ne million baht lawsuit may be placed by my lawyer helped , not sure but I think that is what fixed it.Ayways no more double billing.

I second the lonely planet book. That is all I had when I came in 1991 still use the same one. I amnot sure what 10 to 20 k means but i think it means 10 to 20 thousnd pounds right?By my meager understanding of Thai costs that should be plenty for1 to 2 months. Convert it to Thai baht, decide to what standard you wish to holiday at and read lonely planet.

Do you have a lawyer friend I find here. I simply use lawyer friends when problems arise such as these. Tell him the problem get advice. Works for me. Or next time take him with you to auction office.

First I would like to say very good post.

I came to Thailand since 1991 on holidays I loved the country.Everything was well within my comfort zone and cheap. Before Istarted coming here I was a Mexico vacationer. This beat Mexico hands down.

Now I have lived here 3 years and love it even more but cannot stand the foreigners here.

So many come here but donot want to be here I think. They come for cheap lifestyle and to be honest I think sex is the big draw for them.So many losers playing they are big shots.These guys donot want Thailand they just want to use and abuse it.Many want their foreign food, foreign homes,power for being white big nose people,they want to be revered.

Where else can lowlifes go and get such treatment.

Now I donot even give the time of day to most foreigners.

TIT Nothing to get excited about. I know of one city in Thailand where there is a machine shop one block from main bus station that makes rifles and pistols with the front shop door open to public to view, them at work.

I have already posted my problem with electrical billing please read and check your bills closely. As we all know "not all is as it seems."

Firstly, take along the person whose name is on the bill and a Thai friend who can translate what you wish to say.

Insist on seeing the manager and don`t leave the premises until something is sorted out.

Than you for your reply but the woman who started all this, seems to be unavailable to see me or talk to me other than by phone and then my translater talks and we all know how translaters work, they often just confuse things. Do you think taking a lawyer with me to the main office and asking to talk to the 2 women who have both promised at different times to contact me in 3 days and never have contacted me. I can locate them in the office, if they donot run away when I appear.

I am new here to thaivisa and hope I am in right forum. Also new to forums. So apologizes for any errors made in advance.

I feel I have an unique situation here. I will do my best to explain it.

In April 2009 I received my electric bill the previous reading was 4476 and present reading was 4594 bill amounted to 371.30 baht I paid my bill the regulat cashier wasnot there another woman took my cash She didnot give me a reciept, but initialled my bill and stamped it. In May 2009 my electric bill came it read 4476 again for the previous reading instead of 4594. I went to the electric company and pointed out the error. The woman I was sent to to deal with this problem said she would call me in 3 days.She never called.after one week I went back to see if if it was fixed and they forgot to call. I wanted to pay what I owed.Because the bill had me using the 4476 reading instead of the proper one 4594, it had me paying my was paying my April bill twice.She complained of being busy and would call me next week. To make a long story short I went back many times to correct nothing happened. My June 2009 bill comes still has 4476 for previous reading.so again this whole process starts again. I go down point out the problem same replies. Another months go by. July2009 I recive my bill still has 4476 as previous reading. I get a thai friend to call the office. She is directed to woman who took my money in April,the woman states she will call Lopburi and fix the problem.

August2009 I receive my bill,all is good previous readig is correct 4842 I am happy and present reading is 4908 usage is small I get free electric for the month.All appears well. September 2009 quess what. previous bill reading is 4842 not 4908 as it should be. Again I go down and point this out. Again they say will call in 3 days. Nothing happens. I go to office 3 days in a row woman always out of office when I arrive even though her lunch is at her desk and purse. Other people there finally tell me she will be in next wednesday.Next tuesday a man comes to remove my meter for not paying my May and June bill. I tell him cannot do that I will go to office and fix the problem he says ok. Now I am angry and have had enough..I go see my friend and tell her all the woman she spoke to before because I want this fixed. I told my friend I was thinking of sueing them if they donot fix this time. Of course my friend mentions this to the women on the phone in the office. She then gives me the name of another woman to see when I go down to the office.The new woman is in charge of non payment. I show her my copies of all my double bills she says will call me in 3 days. That was last week havenot heard from her.

Any suggestions on what to do?
