  1. Thank you Xen and IsannAussie, Really good advice sounds like you guys have learned a lot in your time.

I am going to try some of the things mentioned. I want you to know I appreciate the help.

    Meaning that I'm a <deleted> of course.

My apologies cooked. A little lazy on my part to name everyone.

Today I had exterminators come to kill all the ants in the yard. I am staring a clean up and will be adding sand. I did not like being bitten by the ants so was a must do.Will do that as required so I can work with out getting biten.

I will add sand, lime, for sure and rice husk biochar, and bokashi if I can find them.Pulling out all the stops. I do not have a clue what EM is sorry.

  2. I had my tv on the other night and wasnot paying attention to what was on. I was listening and not watching not even sure what was on. When I realized it was the oscars I felt not interested. But the host started to talk about the blacks boycott so I decided to listen to what he had to say. I am not American but I was in shock how this guy used his hosting position to say the things he did. I could only listen to him for a little while he had my blood boiling with his racism statements. He had his moment of glory I hope he never hosts another program ever. I am so glad I am not American. Having to live with that must be painful.

  3. I cannot speak for others . But myself when I was young sought the dangerous places. Wanted adventure and danger This was way before Indiana Jones and internet...I think many young people today are the same. They see adventure and danger on TV and internet and want to try it.Many have never experienced it and it is a big wake up call for them when it is real and they arenot looking at a screen..Nothing beats life experiences.

They hear something happened they will come. No need to change. Also these are the young who spend because that's what they do.

  4. Do not know a lot about the country. But the women are 10 times more domestic and caring for their husbands. Phillipinas really respect the man who provides a good life for them. If you can have a good wife and good home life, that is the most important. As you get older other things will become less important. I wish you the best of luck and a very happy future I feel you made the right decision.

  5. I find most liars insecure and easily threatened. They lie for upmanship..And no use arqueing with them they will just lie more and the conversation goes no where..

As soon as I catch a guy in a lie he is off my list of men I wish to befriend.

I met a couple of teachers up here from England. It appeared they wanted to be friends so I went with it. We got to talking about England and I said I had only been there once for a holiday, for a month. They said I missed a lot and they could show me much more..So i suggested next time they go back I will take a holiday to England and meet them. To do them a favor in return for showing me around I offered to take them to a Royal Yacht Club on the Thames.I am a member of a Royal and have reciprocal privileges, with the Royal Clubs in England. Well this one guy flips and starts to tell me how he can go to a Royal Club whenever he wants does not need me.He told me his father does repairs on the boats and is invited all the time.I looked at him and thought you are so ignorant it hurts. You have no ides of the protical in these clubs. His father if it is true he repairs the boats he would be lucky to be received at the tradesman entrance.Crew and skipper and owners seldom drink together. Crew one bar, club members another, hired skippers another.Guys who fix boats hid on the dock and sip a beer. I said nothing kept it to myself,no need to arque with stupid.

I felt I offered him some thing he never could experience and he threw it back in my face. Did not give him the time of day again.

After i found out all he did was bad mouth me very time any one mentioned my name. Insecure to the max.

Surely you're describing Britain as it was 30 or 40 years ago. I can't imagine a club, Royal or otherwise where there would be such radical distinction depending on the type of hat you wear!

That's why I offered to take them with me to the club.To see the distinction and be present with the ones that enable it in their club. The Royal Van a Canadian club does not let crew drink on the same level of the club as the club members. After a day of racing on the water they go their own way. To be invited to the members area is a privilege.. Also do not forget dress code. There arenot that many members and membership is privileged.. My club is more relaxed.. We are more about sailing than protocol. But even small we have the main docks and club house plus 2 outstations. This is with 645 adult members. Very few people are actual members. That is why I was willing to bring people who could live their whole life's without ever experience these things the opportunity. I felt I was offering a chance to learn something new, about how others live and experience life. Its like many things in life.Never experienced it you donot know it even exists.I offered the experience.

  6. I met an American guy here back around the end of '14 who professed that he was an "international lobbyist" who has close ties with some "Royal Family" in the middle east... Kept going on and on about it, even calling himself a "ghost" and pointing out the odd CIA guys here and there and over there. I gave him the benefit of the doubt initially, but eventually I just couldn't take it anymore and had to just distance myself from him despite his attempts to contact me.

He came here initially as a BD Manager for a high end boutique alcohol brand, although I believe his personal life, alcohol, lies, delusions, and wanting to be some kind of wheeler-dealer type got in the way of his job and he was let go for lack of productivity.

He was often trying to recruit strangers (in bars) to perform tasks for him, such as finding 5 star hotels that are for sale that his 'clients' with billions and billions of dollar budgets were looking to purchase. He often tried to initiate some business deals at bars and other public establishments right out of the blue, these sometimes ended up in verbal and even sometimes physical altercations.

He was often seen performing the odd jiu-jitsu trick to impress impressionable bar girls. This guy was often involved in some physical altercations and ending up in the hospital; internationally even, while he was on business trips.

I could never understand this guy's motives, or sickness, or whatever it was.. but it was kind of interesting in a twisted way to watch this character assassinate himself so many times in so many different ways.

Last I'd seen of him, he was trying to connect to me on Linkedin several times (with different profiles)... Had some photos of him and some middle eastern shiek looking oil types and others with Chinese businessmen, with some fake job descriptions and even a reference letter from some high-up government official.

Not sure why he did what he did, as he was quite intelligent. He was one of the worst cases I'd ever seen; but there have been many others I've seen here over the years, but not at this level.

Guys like him are interesting from a distance. They live quite a colorful life. Over the edge but colorful. Would actually be interesting if he ever took a break from scamming and lieing to open up on some of his experiences> I am sure some of his stories could be quite laughable.

One of the most interesting guys I met in SEA was a guy who has a questhouse in Koh Kong. Cambodia. this guy had lived and survived for years in SEA on his wits. I believe he did embellish his stories, but i got the feeling from him most were based on the truth, but through his eyes and interpretations. He was able to not only survive but end up with a quest house with swimming pool restaurant the whole thing. He had stories about situations he got himself into that were hilarious. He too was a wannabe big shot. How he went about trying to be a big shot was just amusing as hell.

I would not have called this guy a liar. More of an embellisher. But very interesting survivor. I felt he was worth my time.

  7. What I really do not like about liars is they can destroy a real good conversation about real life experiences among men. I myself have had many experiences I love to share with people. I amnot afraid of letting people know I made some crazy choices and lived near the edge many times. I actually enjoy relating the bizarre things that have happened to me.So to sit with guys who have done interesting things and exchange stories is fun for me.But when a guy has to have input by bullshitting he destroys the whole reason for men to share life's experiences.I want to relate to guys who have been there and done it. Not guys with a vivid imagination.

  8. That has been common in thai government schools, for years. The children who have parents that will pay for after school classes get taught. the one who donot take lessons learn on their own.Nothing is taught in the classroom. My first wife taught mat 6 Thai language at a government school. At the first of the year simply gave instructions what to learn and where to research it and seldom did a class. The wife would sign in every morning then do what ever she wanted but teach..Kids need help come to private lessons.

  9. Root rotting is caused by over watering on poorly draining soil or by forms of pathogenic fungus. It appears in your case to be mostly the second issue and you would need to get the plants tested to determine what it is. I would suggest you try adding a lot of organic material to the soil, perhaps a small patch as a trial. It would also be worth introducing a lot of beneficial microbes to try to compete against the nasties.

If you do have a pathogen issue it is easily spread so you may wish to try amending the soil in an area where the problem appears less severe. Another option would be to introduce clean soil in raised beds or even wicking beds or planters set above the ground.

Do not try to compost any infected plants as you will only spread the infection.

Thanks for the help. i will be busy with google now deciphering what you said. I lack the fundamentals for what you are talking about. But I truely appreciate the help.

If I add organic material I cannot use what is in my yard right. It may be infected.I also do not know what are beneficial microbes. What would they come from?

Judging by my own experience here, a high pH value can be found in combination with heavy, clay soil, which turns to concrete in the dry season. Mixing in organic material is good in itself but most of this will have disappeared after a year or two. Carbonised rice husks do a great job of improving drainage but to change the pH you have to resort to mixing in one of the many products available for reducing pH. I myself was fortunate to have large quantities of builders' sand (low pH) laying around which I scattered around the garden gradually (so as not to change soil that was too heavy into soil that was too light). It works its way in by itself.

I now have great soil but I haven't got around the pathogen problem which I am still working on, wood vinegar doesn't help, I don't want to use toxic chemicals so I am looking at soil solarisation, which I have no experience of.I can't grow tomatoes or any other members of their family except Thai chilli.

I am the same as you with tomatoes.Even the thai one, they grow so far then simply die no tomatoes. I tried cantaloupe, they died.chili's grow ok .I will buy sand and spread it around. Does lime help in any way? Wifes friend said try lime. I would be happy to just have a garden that didnot always die.The only real good things in the yard are my lime tree and bananas. The bananas do well because all our grey water goes to them.and they thrive. But the bananas are separate from the rest of the garden also,by quite a distance.and they took a couple of years to get healthy.I will look upp soil solarization also. Thanks for that one.

  10. I should give some more insight into this soil. When we bought the property the yard was over run with chickens, before they had chickens they had pigs.We cleared the whole area and planted some fruit trees. All the trees died with in a month or 2. All this time not a weed in sight. So I decided to wait for weeds to grow so I would know something could grow there. It was more than a year before weeds started.I waited for the weeds to fill in some. Then planted more fruit trees, again they died. All except a lime tree and a coconut. The lime tree thrived. The coconut went into hibernation. and barely survived.I then planted an area with sod.It caught and was looking really good for about a year. Then it started to thin out like some one going bald.Every month the spaces between grass blades got bigger till some areas were just soil.Strange very strange.

Now have some lawn maintained. Roses, are doing well a mango tree has started to look like it might make it more than a few months. One plant that looks sort of like a cactus and gives large pink fruit is growing like a weed. I planted sweet potatoes last year had a great crop of leaves no potaoes, then everything died.Had 2 more papaya die about 1 year old.

I thought maybe the teak trees leaves that fell on the ground for years and broke down may have affected the soil is that possible?

If it does not improve soon I feel I will be forced to dig it up and replace it. Never have I seen any thing like this. I am not a great gardener, but i can water and weed which is all most gardens need. But this soil seems to needs a soil engineer figure out how to get it to work.

  13. Phitsanulok is a good place

    Good for what exactly ?

Given its size it lacks western food and many resources, only a couple of years ago they built central plaza.

I think you answered your own question.

I used to go Pitsanulok every year for a couple of months. I think its the best city in thailand. Location,so central, not total touristy, most restaurants per capita in Thailand(Thai restaurants mind you) Has train ,plane or road to get to and out. Great night life if you donot need tourist trap. Lots of universities full of beautiful young women, who like to party.

  14. I have decided to become a gardener.I have to stay home all the time because I cathater 4 times a day. So have to start doing more at home.

I have a major problem. I did a soil test last year. The meter on the tester peaked for both PH and fertilizer. So I donot even know the levels. I have tried to grow a few things and gave up but now wish to get serious about it.

Most things will start but the roots usually rot of or burn off, not sure which. The lawn even died at the root.My lime tree thrives.I have had papaya trees constantly die at the root . Got one to grow to full height then one day went out and it had fell over the stalk of the tree had rotted right at ground level..My only coconut tree after three years has grown 3 new leaves. What is growing good is all my teak trees. But they donot require gardening.

So I googled what can I grow in soil like this and came up pretty well empty. So does any one know what I can grow here or how to change the soil so I can grow something.

I never knew there could be soil like this.

  15. I read the post by Publicious number 264

And left to wonder. In a country were the vote is private. How do they know what ethic group a voter is from? A polling station may have many different ethnic groups voting there. Is there some where on the ballot that says check ethnic group you are from? Or is it taken from the last name of voters categorizing them by last name must be a certain ethnic group. Sounds to like just another case of lies, lies and statistics.

  16. I would suggest wait the 4 /5 years. Can never have to much. Never know what the future has to hold.Costs go up things happen that cost more than you think. etc.I left early giving up quite a bit of money every year. That money could come in handy now. Costs have gone up,and exchange has gone down.

I still donot spend what I gave myself to spend yearly, but the savings part is definitely not as much annually. It seems to me the longer a person lives her the more he wants out of retirement. So a frugal start can end in lavish splendor of spending.

So bring way more than you need and watch it unfold.

I know you are right and in my mind I know I have to bank as much as possible.....its just torture living here, never ever thought I would feel about my own country like this but it seems the old England is just a distant memory and the new England is not a good place, well for us English folk anyway! Everyone I talk too wants to retire outside of the UK whether it be Spain, Greece, France of the far East...... our doors have been too free for EU traffic and our Social Benefit system is not only a joke but has crippled the country......such a bloody shame.....and they think the Europe referendum will change things.....hahaha politicians eh! and we think Thailand has issues.....!

I can relate strongly to what you are going through. I went through the same in Canada. My country also changed so much I had to leave, and many of the same reasons as yours. That is why I retired early also. But in hind sight should have bit the bullet and remained the last few years. Once you are retired your income stops.Investments can go sideways. House rentals in another country can be problematic. Have your ducks in order before making the plunge.
