Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital
tgw replied to Chris.B's topic in The War in Ukraine
the main story is Russia has been meddling in Ukraine for decades. Ukraine has been the recipient of billions of Euros as investment, loans, development aid and whatnot and is/was evolving into a EU member. That's what Putin tries to prevent by lying, making ridiculous claims, rigging elections, poisoning Ukraine's president, ordering hits on leaders, conducting false flag operations, etc. I know because I have family in Ukraine. Putin needs to get a bloody nose and a good kick in the balls in Ukraine. -
Assault on Kiev: Russian helicopters swoop above Ukraine's capital

really good news there, well done Ukraine I hope Ukraine gets supplied with tens of thousands of man-portable antitank and antiaircraft missiles immediately. USA should let go of its stockpile of FIM-92 Stinger missiles, they are due for replacement soon anyway. Deliver them to Ukraine ASAP. and the same for antitank missiles: http://www.military-today.com/missiles/top_10_portable_atgms.htm all countries on the list, ship to Ukraine please -
not sure how much you know about internet, but if the government was to block/filter port 443 or 587, the whole country's internet-based business would grind to a halt. government administrations, hospitals, banks, everything. a government firewall would just inconvenience people who aren't skilled in using the internet. cybercriminals and people involved in subversive internet-based political activity already know how to remain private, even under government scrutiny. so this "firewall" will just cost money with very little effect. maybe they will catch a bunch of incautious people in the first months, and that will be it.

Thinking of going for Apple for the first time..
tgw replied to brewsterbudgen's topic in Apple Products
how inconvenient or convenient the switch will be depends completely of how you use the computer. if you are a mainstream user, or a professional user, doing mostly internet surfing, video watching, emailing, maybe some word processing, presentations, photo processing, etc. and if you like things to be simple, then you will be more comfortable with Apple doing the job for you... at a cost. if you are an advanced PC user, a gamer, value-driven, then an Apple laptop is not the right choice. beyond the cost of the product, another major drawback of Apple products is repairability, cost of repair and delay. whatever you decide to buy, see that the system disk is raid 1 mirrored -
is there any publicly available official list of restrictions ?

does 48 years old count? I'm not a "mélomane" (music lover) but I enjoy music from all ages and directions. When driving a car on the highway I like cheap technodance / EDM / commercial junk songs. Great for household chores too. I also listen to classical (Bach, Beethoven, Strauss, Händel, Pachelbel, Ravel, Albinoni, Mozart, Wagner ... ), AND death metal, j-pop, k-pop, girlgroups, jazz, rock, and anything else that would just classify as "pop". I don't like guitar, male singers and accordions, and unmelodic music like most of rap. I like it melodic, rythmic, upbeat, energizing, entransing, sexy. If the music does not possess at least two of the preceding, I won't like it.

does anyone know where I can find the list of current restrictions in Pattaya ? before Covid I used to go to Jomtien Beach at night and setup a small BBQ - I wonder if that is now again possible or not ?

you need to put function above design. for example, if any real cooking is to take place in the kitchen, such as steak, Thai stir fry, etc. you need a closed kitchen with doors and a powerful hood with the exhaust leading to the outside and equipped with an extractor fan. another thing to think about, depending on the condo size, is access to the toilet(s)/washbasin(s). at least one should be accessible without passing through a bedroom, and similarly, bedrooms should all be accessible without passing through a toilet. regarding energy consumption, you want to minimize room size, so that aircons don't need to work too hard. if possible, plan in a floor drain in bathroom and kitchen to avoid accidental floods. you may want bathroom and kitchen furniture to be movable. in the kitchen, check that the largest pan (about 13-14 inches / 35cm ) can be put on the largest hob. etc. etc. etc. there are many catch 22s

I got vaccinated last year with 2 Pfizer in central festival, I was wondering if booster shots were available ? I remember seeing some guideline saying the booster was recommended 6 months after the last Pfizer, has this changed ? Is there currently a booster shot programme for foreigners in Pattaya ?

Agreed. It wouldn't hurt to ask though. What's a realistic price "a group of golfers" could put up for a course like Phoenix? Great course, great location. 27 holes accommodate 1000 members. If the membership scheme is attractive (infinite term, transferable without fee) I reckon given the great location, it might be worth 250.000 - 300.000 baht per membership. I doubt that crowdfunding such a sum will be easy though. If there were enough people around to buy expensive memberships, it's doable though.

OP, why don't you explain the reason you don't want to swap the gas cylinder ?

Tourist faces jail after sitting on coral - says he thought it was just rocks
tgw replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
let's see if this is a repeat of this: https://coconuts.co/bangkok/news/russian-tourist-borrows-100000-baht-bail-feeding-fish-off-phuket/ the Russian lady spent 2 nights in a police cell for feeding the fish ! why isn't this kind of overreaction prosecuted for "tarnishing Thailand's image" and "damaging Thailand's tourism business" ? -
motorcyclist should never have been so close to the buggy in the first place, should not have been in the buggy's lane while overtaking, should not have overtaken at a crosswalk, and should have slowed down at the first sign of unanticipated conditions. one thing that is remarkable about about many Thai drivers is that too often they don't slow down when there is a sudden obstacle ahead. many prefer to veer, often without checking if the other lane is free or not. middle aged and older people on motorcycles making their left turns without looking for incoming traffic are way too common too.
