  1. I have been asked from abroad what the current policies by restaurants and malls are regarding ATK test. So how does it look like at the moment in Central Festival and Terminal 21 ? Is an ATK test needed to access the mall, or individual restaurants inside? How about restaurants outside malls, in the rest of the city? Does anyone know if Hat Sai Kaew (beach at the Navy base) is open to visitors? Thank you
  2. good plan if you want to catch a bullet or a machete from clueless Thai drivers believing you want to challenge them on their territory and possibly in front of their wife or mistress...
  3. Thai police needs to enforce a "broken windows" policy regarding rules of circulation. Crackdown mercilessly on: - driving on the wrong side of the street - red lights - right of way, including pedestrian's - reckless driving not including speeding - driving without a permit - compulsory class 1 insurance for all motorized vehicles - double parking - no "loose" passengers in the back of a pickup on main roads and highways - failing to indicate a turn - crossing more than 1 lane to make a turn - crossing continuous lines on main roads - illegal overtaking - safety distances I don't include speeding, because including that would just have the effect of lazy policing, i.e. speed checks on highways, where the risk of accident is the lowest. General traffic safety would be best served if they concentrated on all of the above, in effect teaching people to behave on the roads, instead of occasionally lynching someone when something goes wrong. It does not matter if people can pay their way out of the problem. Just make the payment a serious inconvenience so that they will at least try to not let it happen again. They should introduce a program where citizens can send in dashcam videos if they catch particularly bad cases of some of the offences above. Give the uploaders 250 baht for a successful report of an actual serious offence.
  4. I guess all the people shooting their mouth off about 14.000 tons being a "big number" know what the usual stock levels for porks are at this time of the year? for comparison, the total consumption of pork in France was just a bit over 2.100.000 tons in 2020. France has roughly the same population as Thailand. 14.000 tons therefore seems to be a low number. that would cover only 2 to 3 days of France's consumption of pork. the French eat about 30 Kg of pork per person per year, the stat for Thailand is about 10 Kg so these 14.000 tons are 9 days of supply. there have been outbreaks of african swine fever in the past years and months.
  5. TGM must be producing something, or have been in the past at their Naklua location. But, yes their website only talks about their 2 factories in Chaochoengsao.
  6. I'm interested in places offering direct foodstuff sales from their own local production. Not including what restaurants or food stalls could sell as takeaway such as pizzas, kebabs or sandwiches. There are 2 I can directly think of, TGM on Naklua road, and Meatstuff near Thepprasit road. Please add yours to the list ! I'm interested in places *making* and selling: - meatstuffs (sausages, pâté, hams, etc.) - cake & pastry - bread
  7. well, you read my point of view. maximum for your cellphone grabber is a 1000 baht fine. if you want to get anywhere, prove fraud.
  8. this. OP, get a switch. 259 baht: https://www.lazada.co.th/products/d-link-des-1008c-8-port-ethernet-switch-des-1008civoryitshop-i2542863185-s9045518271.html
  9. I speak enough Thai to get through daily routine, but understanding what Thais say is not easy especially when they talk among them, it's fast, colloquial and based on context. I think I will progress fast if I learn how to read Thai, but at the moment I'm identifying characters in words/sentences and guessing at which words could be meant. I feel Thai script is annoyingly hard to read, many vowels are "assumed", meaning when no vowel is present, an "A" will be pronounced, but it depending on the next consonant, it will sometimes be "O", or it depends on the word. And the consonants themselves can change their sound depending on where they are placed in a word... There are 15 consonants which are pronounced "t" when placed at the end of a word. Then, Thai also has seemingly endless variations of the same general sound. Who needs 5 variations of K, 4 for T and 3 for D, etc., who would have guessed "RR" means "A", and to make things worse, characters are not written in the order they are pronounced. If I ever get to read Thai proficiently, I will consider that a major achievement.
  10. the prosecutor's office is located here: https://goo.gl/maps/SMewUZ7BdoWQ45aL8 one possible strategy is to drop by and ask. regarding your matter, you say you recorded three meetings. do these 3 recordings provide solid proof of criminal fraud with damage to any party? because if all they did was to "make up" some statements and file them without monetary or other damages to owners / tenants / tax office, it would be "irregular procedure" but since there are no damages, I wouldn't expect anyone prosecuting this. the same goes for your "assault", which is covered by the following article of Thai criminal code: so the perp is looking at a 1000 baht fine. I don't see a prosecutor, who are busy persons, go after someone for that, unless for other reasons.
  11. err.. sorry, it's not medicinal if it has less than 0.2% THC. medicinal means it's working. the less than 0.2% version could be called homeopathic. i.e. doesn't work.
  12. does this work the same as for government lottery tickets?
  13. to be fair, Arabic Science was more advanced than the Western world until the middle of the middle ages, when religion took over. https://www.thenewatlantis.com/publications/why-the-arabic-world-turned-away-from-science

    Cash refused

the question about cash is interesting as far as I understood: - shops, businesses can refuse cash payments. to get paid, they must ascertain the customer agrees to their preferred method of payment before the customer receives goods or services. - in case the customer has received already received goods or services before payment, if the shops or businesses want to get paid immediately, they have to accept legal tender (cash) - legal tender (cash) is a legal way to pay debts and cannot be refused for debt payment if a business insists on card payment and the customer has already received, for example, a meal and offered cash payment, it is my understanding that he cannot be legally prevented from leaving if he provides an address where the business can send an invoice.
  15. I'm happy about these products. Let them vegans eat them - at 500 baht/Kg it's no problem, vegans are said to be highly educated and skilled workers, so they probably get the high wages required to buy these products. I'll continue to buy delicious ribeye for about 300 baht/Kg.
  16. what a tool. if that's what he is seriously thinking, he should not be allowed to have a driver's license.
  17. what did the guy expect when riding on the roads linking the region's largest commercial port with some of the region's largest industrial areas ?
  18. yes, that's the short story. colonel is correct when the navy captain is somewhat of a pencil-pusher, but the navy's most important ships are also commanded by captains, for example supercarriers, and in that case i'd estimate their rank to be more like a general, one or two stars. n fact, this may have something to do with the "one star admiral" rank being discontinued (in appearance) in the navy; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Commodore_(United_States)#Disestablishment
  19. yup, I was thinking the same. also strange is how quickly the sanction came. I guess he already had a history of causing displeasure for his superiors.
  20. I'd say register yes, operate no. It can be a legal address for a business that has no visitor traffic.
  21. the law is perfectly good ... now its enforcement on the other hand ...
