  1. I absolotely do not want to use oil based paint for my wooden doors but somehow I haven't been able to find any waterbased woodpaint?! This is a really normal product in Holland...

I bought a bucket of Jotun wall paint Semi-Gloss instead and feel really bad about it. I should be able to find some water based woodpaint somewhere right? Any Ideas?

  2. I need to find an agency here in Pattaya to help me out but like I said all those visa agencies so far knew nothing.

    Crypt,

Im home again after a few days away and done a search over google maps.

The place/agent that I first used is on Soi Khao Talo. From central Pattaya, heading along Sukhumvit Rd as though you were driving towards Jomtien. Just after Pattaya South Rd will be a left turn onto Soi Khao Talo, turn onto the Soi and continue about 3-5mins (its that long as traffic is usually a bit slow). Eventually on the right you will see a few small restaurants on your right and a place called Khao Talo Visa Service. If you pay them a visit and tell them what you need they will be able to help you out.. They will even put your picture on the wall once you have your license if you are into that kind of thing!?

    Ph: +66 8 1639 2659

    2nd Ph: +66 8 9936 3717

The license service is not listed on their web site but they do offer it in person. I provided the website address more so for contact details and they also have a map on there to help you with directions.

    Best of luck!

It's across the road from Theppasit Rd actually!

    Hope it'll work out, thanx!

  3. If u have international motobike licence ur allow to use in Thailand

On tourists visa u can have Thai licence l did it last year in Pattaya . There is office for learn driving near tukcom in Pattaya . Very small office when u stand up front coffee shop S&P in tukcom u walk at ur left abt 100 metre .

I paid abt 3500 b he clear for me everything take me to office exams near big p farmer or something like that . If u have already international licence they will only change to Thai licence if u not u have to pass exame as l did for bike .licence valid 1 year

Exactly where would this agency be? Sounds like it should be in between TukCom and Friendship supermarket? I was there today and pretty sure there is no such thing... On the same side as TukCom or opposite? Perhaps in one of the sois?

  4. Ok I'm reading all of this but so far it hasn't made much sense to me. Any visa agent I walked into said I couldn't get one or didn't knew anything.

Also since I don't have an international drivers license it seems I have to do a test in thai which I can't read. I strongely doubt I can take someone along to translate my test...

Will try to get my proof of residency from immigration first, that's a start, then what?

  5. I rented myself a motorbike, it goes about 90km/hour, a Honda Airblade.

I was told I needed a drivers license for it?!

I understand an international drivers license (which I don't have) is only valid for 60 days? A thai drivers license only for residents?

So is it possible for a tourist to drive a motorbike legally all year long? You all understand I'm doing the visa run thing.

  6. I should have known this haha, Jomtien is too far. Somewhere between North Pattaya Rd. and Theprasit Rd., also I'm looking for an Hotel not a studio or appartment, just one that cut's you a deal if you want to stay for 28 days. Well KTK calls itself a serviced appartment, I'm not planning on staying more then 1 month.

  7. Right now I have my eyes on KTK Royal Residence but their cheapest room still costs THB 19k a month which is still without electricity and basically it's more then I'd like to spend, also there seems to be construction going on next doors. Most of all I'd like a somewhat quiet location. The room needs a double bed, hot shower, fridge and reliable wifi.

The location isn't that important, not directly above or next to any bars. Obviously they need to offer cheap monthly rates, I'm willing to pay about 12-19k a month.

  8. Well I've gotten some partial answers in the meanwhile:

Compulsory government insurance covers medical expenses of up to 15,000 bt if you have an accident while riding the motorbike. However my Dutch health insurrance already fully covers me for any injuries so this is quite useless.

It also seems that Theft insurance is not available on rental motorbikes in Thailand.

I'd still like insurrance for damage and injuries done to the opposite party and my vehicle. Let's say the other party makes a run for it I'm stuck with the damage. I suppose when I'm the cause I'm <deleted> in Thailand wether I have insurrance or not.

  9. I want to rent a motorbike in Thailand for at least 1 month and I'm worried about insurrance.

I had email conversation with a rental company:

Do the scooters you rent come with insurrance? = Compulsory Government insurance only.

Does the insurrance cover damage to the vehicle of the opposite party? = No, usually whoever is at fault for the accident pays

Does the insurrance cover injuries to the opposite party? = No
Does the insurrance cover damage to my rented motorbike? =No
Does the insurrance cover theft of the motorbike? = No rental motorbike in Thailand can be legally covered for theft.

I presume pure technical faillure are always repaired/paid by your company and won't be blamed on me? = Yes, except punctures and lights and only when we are informed that there is a problem.

So I was send here to get a quote on a complete insurrance for a rented motorbike but I wonder if this is even possible if I don't own it. It needs to cover all the questions I had above.

Also I'm not clear on what this "Compulsory Government insurance"exactly includes? What is it for if it covers none of the above?

  10. Just out of curiosity... How does that water taste? I see them drive around with those big white 20l cans all the time but never tried it. For example 7eleven brand and several other "cheap" thai 1,5l brands like "Namthip" for example have this vague chloride taste. Don't know how to describe it but it's disgusting... I only buy Singha bottles myself currently since they're cheap and taste good (actually cheaper even than the brands I just mentioned.

Carrefour delivers for free above 1000thb including water.

  11. I trained with 2 other gyms in Pattaya before I subscribed with Tony's and they both had free towels for a membership fee of about 600thb a month. But these gyms had old equipment and I got fed up with it.

I never got a free towel with any of the 8 different gyms I attended back in Holland to be honest... It's kinda relaxed I have to admit that but bringing your own isn't that big of an issue is it... Even the tourist in the biggest budget hotel dump gets a towel with his room...

  12. Well yesterday it still said 7999thb for one year. They do however have a temporarily offer for 5999thb but that won't last long. I <deleted> paid it a month ago I think I know.

But you were <deleted> talking about half year memberships. The 5,999 is a renewal fee and for a FULL YEAR. 7,999 is for a full year for a new member. As I stated before, starting early this year all memberships include use of all gyms. The 5,999 will probably last quite a while and may even improve as Tony is not having an easy time finding new members these days.

Cool, I didn't know they have a renewal fee for only 5999thb! I hope it lasts so next year I'll pay 2000thb less :)

  13. I'm looking for a really good store to buy shoes for running and I need an outdoor "survival" store in Bangkok. Someone recommended Central to me but is has burned down... Every mall has it's little sports store with some shoes and some outdoor stuff laying around but they never have what I need. I hope someone knows some good stores that actually specialise instead of having some stuff laying around.

I'm looking for running shoes and synthetic shirts/pants from brands like odlo and the north face. Well the brand doesn't really matter just that these tend to have a decent model unlike what adidas or nike sells in this categorie.

  14. price/quality tony's is your best bet and CA WOW would be your worst. But there's plenty of small gyms around for a reasonable price. Check out the roads around your room and if there's none go for Tony's, if there is a nice reasonable priced gym across the street that suits your needs I'd do that. Support the local economy and reduce traveling times.

  15. That's funny because all personel at Tony's is Phillipine and NOT thai. So your thai would have been useless. They've always been very friendly to me, the 5,999thb is for half a year not one year.

I know of only one Filipino staff member in the Soi 16 gym. I had no idea all the other gyms had only Filipino staff and I seriously doubt it. The 5,999 baht is for a full year.

Both locations on 3rd road charge 7999thb for 1 year and 5999thb for half a year. Maybe their walking street location is cheaper? Do they offer acces to all the other gyms with that? I seriously doubt this.

At the start of the year they were charging 6,999 for all gyms. Now it's 5,999. This is for renewal and for a full year.

Then again this goes for their locations on 3rd road, I never been to their walking street gym but I do have acces to all gyms with this membership. The "bodybuild" gym on 3rd road has been relocated two weeks ago across the road from the "fitness" gym on 3rd road going south past pattaya thai and still hasn't opened yet.
