Violent actions of any sort with a conviction will resort in deporting and a black listed. Collins is gone if the Thai guy keeps on with it. Even if he doesn't it could be the prosecutor picks it up personally and proceeds. don't see much wiggle room here on this, even if there suddenly appears to be a video of the cat and mouse driving leading up to the machete in hand. Sorry for the little girl.

On the other hand, 68 and having a kid! OMG!

Not 68 years old, not even 72,he said he was 77! And I understood in the yesterday's article that his wife was carrying the baby so he just made another kid... At 76 maybe

When I am in Cambo I usually drink wine, plenty of nice bars that match what central Bangkok can offer but much cheaper prices for wine.

No point drinking cheap beer when fantastic French, Australian and South American wines are available dirt cheap.

I pay $25 for a bottle of Champagne at a good restaurant in Cambo. Maybe 8,000thb for that in Bangkok? $15 a bottle of extremely nice Californian Red, maybe 2,400thb for that in Bangkok, if you can find it and properly stored etc.

Sure, you can sit with the plebs and drink 75c Angkor draft, if the mood takes you.

There's good and bad about both places mate.

I guess it's no real champagne which is an AOC, many here in asia call "champagne" a sparkling traditional method like Chandon or other sparkling wines...If indeed, you can find sometimes 1st prices champagnes in promotion in Europe for only 10€, the average price is more like 25 € in european supermarkets, so I guess that with transport fes, customs fees, and the restaurant profit it's unlikely to be a real Chamagne from the Champagne regio in France.

  3. No wonder when authorities are doing everything to discourage western and European tourists...: closing bars and clubs at 2 am in walking street (imagine those who just bought 1 bottle..), police check points everywhere, checks (blow) for alcohol ( never seen before in 14 years), harder to become some visa or 30 day exemption turning to be 15 days by land (visa run), double or 10-fold pricing scams in many places: (floating market, islands "national parks", etc..), an increased greedy and racist sentiment everywhere (land of 'fake' smile), farangs always wrong if they have an accident against a thai, even if in right, still rampant corruption ...

I see more of the "quality" tourists that came here befre and really spent money, changing their holiday to more "welcoming countries"(where also they speak much better English), like the Philippines or even Cambodia...

Sad for Pattaya indeed, but are the thais not responsible for that , at least as much as the drop in the currency exchange rates?

  4. What do you think that they think after authorities ordering bars and disco to close at 3 am, no prostitutes, raiding bars in soi 6,  etc? They certainly won't dare to tell their real opinion if they are asked their ID !! With a military junta behind...and the so-called lese-majesty law threatening everybody even if they just express themselves ...

    What a joke !

If one is a resident here and goes to WS or any of the tourist gogo spots for that matter for the purpose of meeting girls, it is your money but what a total rip off scene.  The dating sites are the modern way to go many of these girls are on these sites. I met one about noon and she actually hosted me at her place.

I would not be surprised if at some point WS stays open, but as more of a ¨watch only¨ girls dancing scene with no BF or true interaction with customers.  So in other words, like the current purgatory religious right scenes of many other countries.

I love Soi 6 but drove down there a short time ago and many places not open I know the 6 pm rule.  What will they do in the future shut down the on site room access like they have done in Angeles City.?

With all this the MPś may end up being the most accessible venues.

    Or Cambodia..LOL !!;-)

Such a shame they are only target the rich and not the average working class.

rich ...and stupid..Who would be stupid enough to block 3M baht on a current or saving account where you lose money at they end because of the inflation !!

I'm sure if you have the 3 M in mutual funds it will not count, the same shit I have to do for the 800,000 baht every year: sell funds or stocks and leave the money with a ridiculous interest for 3 months...But here it seems it would be much more than 3 months...and 3 M baht...total nonsense...

You would lose, so in fact it woud cost you at least 1 or 2% per year on this amount...make the calculation..

I worked in a government school about 12 years ago, the Thai teachers were always smacking the kids. This guy lost his cool because he thinks being a teacher in a thai government school is something to be taken seriously. You pay peanuts you get monkeys, I'd also be surprised if any foreign teachers in these thai schools have degrees in English or education (no one did when I was doing it), why would anyone spend 4 years studying and work for 35,000 thb per month? I think we can all agree that sort of money just isn't worth it, not to mention the fact that the thai teachers don't like you because the reason you're there is because their English is worse than tarts.

Exactly, and I remember that I had a friend who was teaching also about 10 years ago maybe in governmental schools and he was not paid by the school but by some thai center that had contracts with city hall, and paid him only 300 or 350 baht per hour, so he ended up the month with only about 20-22,000 baht...and told me that after a few months, he was so fed up of the lack of respect of the kids , plus the small salary and also, the center never provided him a work permit although that had been promised , so he quit. He told me that on a class of maybe 30 pupils, only 3 or 4 were listening, the others were playing, talking loud, fighting...until the thai teacher who was drinking tea or coffee outside came back and shouted loud at them..silence for only 5 minutes, then very naughty again after the thai teacher left  ! Another one had a contract with a school, the same as thai teachers, but earned only 30,000, so that was better, he was also paid during the holidays, the other friend not ! This one stayed a few years, then he quit also I think.

No I am saying don't be a prat and dress to the occasion. Are you walking in a bikini in the middle of New York, London or Paris?

By the way, they were not in the middle of Paris but in a holiday, touristic place and in the water ! I'm sure they would dress appropriately in the middle of a big city like New-York, etc...

Maybe you and the resort owner would have liked they go with full dresses, t-shirt and pants into the water (like many thais and asian do) ? What a crap !

Last I read, even though the wife/brother of the deceased has accepted a 3 million baht compensation and dropped charges the police have still charged him with reckless driving and homicide and a warrant is out but how seriously that warrant is pursued is another thing.

The speeding charge expired after a year. The more serious charge of hit-and-run, which police say carries a penalty of up to six months in jail, expires in September.

Complicating matters, Yoovidhya's attorney has repeatedly filed petitions claiming unfair treatment in the investigation.

Police say it's up to prosecutors to charge him. Prosecutors say extra investigation is needed, but wouldn't specify.

Now 5 years later, I guess everything will be "expired"...and a criminal can continue to laugh at this justice parody ...

According to the full article, visa holders would be expected to check in with immigration every 3 months.

But remember that you will still have to open up your social media and bank accounts for the authorities to scrutinise and most likely they will make the money conditions more and more difficult (earning 100,000 per year income or 3 million in the bank which you cannot touch). You will also have to have medical insurance that will provide $10,000 coverage.

And this is what we know so far, folks. It might be a lot of money and effort so as to avoid the regular visa run . . .

you forgot the regular "retirement" visa 1 year, over 50 years; 800,000 baht , 20,000 € or $ and same report to immigration 5 minutes every 90 days...1900 baht every year so far..

  11. When caught with overstay a judge will make the decision on the fine and the ban. That is where the prosecuted term comes into play.

I don't think they would ban a person for just a few days of overstay unless they were a repeat offender.

Technically speaking, if you go before a Judge, then that means that you have been 'Prosecuted'. Maybe there is some leniency for the Judge and/or Immigration as to whether they will apply the ban, but that isn't clear.

It is indeed not mentionned, but I doubt that they would renounce to the 500 baht per day fine...at least for the first few days or weeks...and by the way, there was a "grace" period of 1 day, it was free of charge, what about now ? Sometimes a tourist could make a mistake of 1 day calculating by month, or maybe not take into account the day of arrival as nr 1, but calculating from the day following his arrival in the kingdom...

So it doesn't look like there is a 90 day grace period for those arrested. Caught with a 1 day overstay and it's a 5 year ban!

I don't think it would be a 5 years ban, many tourists are unaware or can make a mistake of calculation with the planes, and could have 1 or 2 days overstay...in 12 years, it happenned once to me, and the 1st day overstay was "free of charge", then, 500 baht fine from the 2nd day; it is not mentionned here, but I doubt they would renounce to those financial fines...!!

  13. No, i have less than 65k as recurrent income but I have already over 800K baht in the thai bank since 1 year, so then I would not need anything from my embassy ? And appart original bankbooks updated ir letter from my thai bank, would I need to let that " notarized" ? If yes, where can I do that and what is the cost ?

Also in my case and financially speeking, I think the cheapest would be if I had the chance directly to an OA or at least an O in my country otherwise i would have to pay much more each time first 60€ for my double entry tourist visa, then i don't know how much fot non immigrant and then also pay for extension 1 year? Btw what if I go out of Thailand several times in a year ?

Do I have multiple entries by default on those visas ?
