According to the full article, visa holders would be expected to check in with immigration every 3 months.

But remember that you will still have to open up your social media and bank accounts for the authorities to scrutinise and most likely they will make the money conditions more and more difficult (earning 100,000 per year income or 3 million in the bank which you cannot touch). You will also have to have medical insurance that will provide $10,000 coverage.

And this is what we know so far, folks. It might be a lot of money and effort so as to avoid the regular visa run . . .

you forgot the regular "retirement" visa 1 year, over 50 years; 800,000 baht , 20,000 € or $ and same report to immigration 5 minutes every 90 days...1900 baht every year so far..

  2. When caught with overstay a judge will make the decision on the fine and the ban. That is where the prosecuted term comes into play.

I don't think they would ban a person for just a few days of overstay unless they were a repeat offender.

Technically speaking, if you go before a Judge, then that means that you have been 'Prosecuted'. Maybe there is some leniency for the Judge and/or Immigration as to whether they will apply the ban, but that isn't clear.

It is indeed not mentionned, but I doubt that they would renounce to the 500 baht per day fine...at least for the first few days or weeks...and by the way, there was a "grace" period of 1 day, it was free of charge, what about now ? Sometimes a tourist could make a mistake of 1 day calculating by month, or maybe not take into account the day of arrival as nr 1, but calculating from the day following his arrival in the kingdom...

So it doesn't look like there is a 90 day grace period for those arrested. Caught with a 1 day overstay and it's a 5 year ban!

I don't think it would be a 5 years ban, many tourists are unaware or can make a mistake of calculation with the planes, and could have 1 or 2 days overstay...in 12 years, it happenned once to me, and the 1st day overstay was "free of charge", then, 500 baht fine from the 2nd day; it is not mentionned here, but I doubt they would renounce to those financial fines...!!

  4. No, i have less than 65k as recurrent income but I have already over 800K baht in the thai bank since 1 year, so then I would not need anything from my embassy ? And appart original bankbooks updated ir letter from my thai bank, would I need to let that " notarized" ? If yes, where can I do that and what is the cost ?

Also in my case and financially speeking, I think the cheapest would be if I had the chance directly to an OA or at least an O in my country otherwise i would have to pay much more each time first 60€ for my double entry tourist visa, then i don't know how much fot non immigrant and then also pay for extension 1 year? Btw what if I go out of Thailand several times in a year ?

Do I have multiple entries by default on those visas ?

  5. Non-O isn't it only if I'm married with a thai national?

I don't really understand what's the easiest and safest as my flight is on the 22 oct( in 2 weeks) and for 4 month... So I was told already they will not allow me a single entry tourist visa but I need a double entry... Also they talk about " original documents from the bank" and I can have most of them only by internet as I am in Belgium ( I have funds + securities(stocks) in Thailand for over 800 k... And also in Belgium btw they told me it can be 20,000 in a belgian bank.. It seems that I can ask for " temporary" retired visa in my city and then apply for prolongation in Thailand or else go to the capital city only and 2x for the O-A ? So if I understand good the O-A is an O with an extension granted for 1 year?

  6. So it seems it is not possible to come either just on my passport without visa and then make the formalities while in Thailand or even on a tourist visa and make the formalities while here, it seems I have to apply for a non-O or non-B visa then change it in Thailand ?

You can do the conversion to a non immigrant visa entry with tourist visa or visa exempt entry after arrival that I wrote about. If you arrive and get 30 day visa exempt entry you will only have 15 days to do the conversion because you must have 15 days remaining on your entry. Then you apply for the extension of stay after you have the non immigrant visa entry.

If you have a non-o visa you do not convert anything you just apply for the one year extension of stay during the last 30 days of your entry or when the money is in the bank for 60 days.

Can i do all this near Pattaya ( in Jomtien) or do I have to go to Bkk or ?

  7. I am a belgian citizen and I just turned 50.

I have 2 or 3 questions about the O-A visa, if applied for in Thailand.

1-Is it possible to apply in Jomtien (Pattaya) or do I have to go to Bangkok, and do we get it the same day, or do we have to return ?

2- What are the documents required ? If applying in Belgium, they will ask between others, a Curriculum Vitae, a criminal record

allso known as certificate of good conduct (I don't know if it is possible to get it maybe through our embassy while still in Thailand), same for a certificate of residence (in my home country-Belgium), a medical certificate ?? What is it exactly and in Thailand is this required from a thai doctor or clinic ?

Plus of course the rest as the bank requirements, etc

3-What about the flight ticket ?

I could also bring the documents from Belgium (as I do not have enough time before my already booked flight and don't want to take the risk of missing documents, or a refusal plus I have to travel 2x 120 km to Brussels at least...so I better would come on a tourist visa this time taken in the consulate here in my own city and easier to get, then eventually change once in Thailand)

4- I know it is valid for 1 year, then, what happens each year after 1 year, do I have to re-apply every year and go through the same procedure with new documents, certificates of residence in Belgium, certif. of good conduct, bank etc etc ...?

5- Does it have multiple entries as I would go back to my country maybe 2x a year ? If various entries, what is then the price in THB ?

the company you are working for should help you apply for a business visa at the nearest thailand embassy or consulate. When in thailand they can help you with a Work permit application at the local Labor Dept office.

I will not really be "working" , this is just a small webradiostation, that costs only maybe about 35 -50€ per month not more, and then will not get salary,

only commissions if some customers (businesses) in Thailand buy some radio ad campaign like for 1, 2 or 3 months...

  9. So what does an official foreign-appointed sales representative do ?

Let's say he want to promote physically in Thailand for a few months the softwares of his company and has to make a presentation or a demonstration to the targeted customer or by speaking at a meeting ??

It is not rare so on what kind of visa do they enter and is a wp requested and if yes who the hell in Thailand can give him if he is the only one in Thailand and his company abroad??

  10. It can mean physically go in and out but mostly those french do not really work also right ? It's mostly in the name of their wife ...

Also most of the targeted businesses are related to tourists so often: restaurants, pubs, renting bikes...

Also as I mentionned WE DO NOT HAVE ANY COMPANY IN THAILAND SO WHO COULD THEN GIVE ME A WP IF NEEDED ?

And this webradiostation is not really a company yet it has just started with small investment.

They do not even give me a salary, we would share the commissions on ads if and when I find advertizers who buy ads.....

  11. Hello

I plan to promote as a freelancer in Thailand a French internet webradio station based in Belgium.

This webradio has an international audience and is meant not only for French-speaking retired, expats or businesses living in Thailand but also all the French-speaking people in Canada, France, Belgium, Switzerland or Africa interested by Thailand.

The promotion could be done from anywhere in the world by calling or emailing...but more specifically, it would be made by contacts or prospection in Thailand if I meet a French(speaking) expat or maybe go to eat or drink in a French pub/restaurant. So basically it's just establishing contacts and put them in contact with the foreign webradio.

If the French owner/manager decides to make the promotion of his business, he can then subscribe by internet on the website of the radio to a campaign of broadcasted ads. He pays then directly the radiostation by internet on the website...

    So no cash transaction involved.

I would act a bit like a sales representative sent by a foreign company to prospect the thai market and paid abroad by his home country company.

Now, more and more foreigners work remotely from their computer while they stay in Thailand. I know it has been controversed a lot in the past few years but I think I saw a recent post on Thaivisa from Thai Immigration head in BKK who clarified the situation and confirmed it was legal to do so on a tourist visa (can you maybe re-send me this link ?)

It is normal to run your remote business or send emails to your employees or partners abroad or make translations for a remote Customer abroad or even do some consulting bussiness by internet or manage your stocks, funds even if you are on extended holiday.

The slight difference here is that I would not only do this business from home in Thailand but more buy meeting business owners.

Would it then need a "Non-Immigrant B" visa but of course no Work Permit as we DO NOT have or work for any company in Thailand ?

Or can this activity been conducted without any trouble on a TOURIST or even a RETIRED visa (I'm 50 years old) ? As I would act more like a "CONSULTANT", my only job would be to make contacts and put the radio in relation with the business owners in Thailand.

I also know that the new government in place made some changes lately regarding the Visa requirements, so I am asking for an up-to-date information as of 29-September-2014.

    Thank you in advance.

Look around , the major business is .....house building .

In every little town you can find building -shops (Home Pro,Home Market ......but also smaller shops on every corner )

If they stop farangs from owning a house via company ,those shops will have a hard time .

And a lot of Thai-landowners will cry ,because their land will be worth what is was before the farang came.(a few 1000 a rai)

All this land farangs control now ,will go automatically to Thai people ,so why the fear ?

Their fear in the future is that it will be difficult to control those rich widows with their smart kids ?

Or they just hate us that much ? Why not cancel all the visa's and allow only 30 day visa?

But we can only obey ,and find another smart solution .coffee1.gif

...Or find another (neighbooring) country !

  13. I have just returned from a short break in Cambodia, and as much as it was a nice change, I DEFINETLY could not

Live there, Rubbish and Litter everywhere, conditions of the roads were dismal..., quality of life would be less for sure.

    For me anyway..

On a positive note, the Cambodians were very friendly and they spoke basic English....

    Food was nice...

On another note, I've had a friend tell me he won't be visiting this year as, after extensively touring Cambodia the previous year, he prefers that country as he isn't made to feel like a walking ATM and the country is still relatively pristine in terms of natural resources. He's young and not a monger, and I'm guessing the still cheap and widely available access to hos and bugger all else sans shopping malls, to be the only draw here in Thailand now. .

As to the rubbish, when I visited PP and SR a few years back, their garbage problem was in no way up er, down, to the standard of the mountains of trash still littering Phuket, that 'world class holiday destination'.

And what about the Philippines ?

You feel really welcome there !

They always greet u like " good morning Sir !"

    And they speak perfect English.

Regulations are also not so tough for staying or opening a business.

Also the girls are great !

They have thousands of islands, beautiful beaches.

So maybe an option to consider as a next destination by all those deceived by Thailand practices, corruption, or feeling like a walking ATM , or duped by dual- pricing etc!

  14. For a country full of xenophobes, they are sure complaining a lot

XENOPHOBES? No! It's Thainess ! It was mandated back in 1939.

Read the 12 mandates by dictator Phibunsongkhram, military man who seized power, sent the king into exile and appointed himself as Prime Minister. He is the one who so expeditiously open the door of the country to the Japanese army that made itself at home for 2 years.

In one of the edicts, he specifies how Thais should be leery of foreigners, etc.

I see the same story repeating with Gen P.who just appointed himself as PM...
