Look around , the major business is .....house building .

In every little town you can find building -shops (Home Pro,Home Market ......but also smaller shops on every corner )

If they stop farangs from owning a house via company ,those shops will have a hard time .

And a lot of Thai-landowners will cry ,because their land will be worth what is was before the farang came.(a few 1000 a rai)

All this land farangs control now ,will go automatically to Thai people ,so why the fear ?

Their fear in the future is that it will be difficult to control those rich widows with their smart kids ?

Or they just hate us that much ? Why not cancel all the visa's and allow only 30 day visa?

But we can only obey ,and find another smart solution .coffee1.gif

...Or find another (neighbooring) country !

  2. I have just returned from a short break in Cambodia, and as much as it was a nice change, I DEFINETLY could not

Live there, Rubbish and Litter everywhere, conditions of the roads were dismal..., quality of life would be less for sure.

    For me anyway..

On a positive note, the Cambodians were very friendly and they spoke basic English....

    Food was nice...

On another note, I've had a friend tell me he won't be visiting this year as, after extensively touring Cambodia the previous year, he prefers that country as he isn't made to feel like a walking ATM and the country is still relatively pristine in terms of natural resources. He's young and not a monger, and I'm guessing the still cheap and widely available access to hos and bugger all else sans shopping malls, to be the only draw here in Thailand now. .

As to the rubbish, when I visited PP and SR a few years back, their garbage problem was in no way up er, down, to the standard of the mountains of trash still littering Phuket, that 'world class holiday destination'.

And what about the Philippines ?

You feel really welcome there !

They always greet u like " good morning Sir !"

    And they speak perfect English.

Regulations are also not so tough for staying or opening a business.

Also the girls are great !

They have thousands of islands, beautiful beaches.

So maybe an option to consider as a next destination by all those deceived by Thailand practices, corruption, or feeling like a walking ATM , or duped by dual- pricing etc!

  3. For a country full of xenophobes, they are sure complaining a lot

XENOPHOBES? No! It's Thainess ! It was mandated back in 1939.

Read the 12 mandates by dictator Phibunsongkhram, military man who seized power, sent the king into exile and appointed himself as Prime Minister. He is the one who so expeditiously open the door of the country to the Japanese army that made itself at home for 2 years.

In one of the edicts, he specifies how Thais should be leery of foreigners, etc.

I see the same story repeating with Gen P.who just appointed himself as PM...

  4. OP you lived in thailand did you work in thailand and earn thai wages?

Because of the exchange rates between the USD and bht the costs would seem much cheaper for you.

I got by on about 40,000-50,000 baht a month from my internet biz. I had TONS of money for fun. There was never a dull night. I lived like a Thai and blew the rest on vice. Could never do that here.

What kind of internet biz is that ?

I would be interested to do so and leave expensive Belgium !

  5. Prostitution, it is the oldest profession in the world.

If they want to reduce it (they will never eradicate it), they need to look at the root causes and eradicate poverty, and the root cause of that in Thailand is corruption.

They need more to change the mentalities ! This begins with education ! The beautifull girls don't have to serve as a sex machine or to earn money for the family and western men are not ATM !

  6. OMG ! "Also there is a checkpoint that has been set up to breathalyse drivers at Wat Chai Mongkhon intersection every day."

Did they really do that ?

What about in the night or early morning when ppl come back from a night out a bit drunk ?

Maybe it's only in daytime though ?

Pattaya would not be Pattaya if they started to do like in Europe or USA !

I've not been there since January 2014 but since I went there regularly from 2003, I've never seen any alcohol breathanalyse in Pattaya.

  7. Real world explanations could also be the sanctions recently imposed on Russian banks. Hard to get money out of the ATM abroad if the Russian clearing banks have been cut off. Harder still to transfer large sums at a time. That would affect travel companies needing to make bookings and the individual tourist.

Thank goodness we don't have them taking over Isaan. Rudest expletives on the planet.

I hope finally those kind of persons and all those problems will put pressure on Putin to step back !

Obstination from Putin and all those measures and threats accumulating more and more soldiers near the border of Ukraine..

All this is escalating and going too far !

Why can't we live in peace ? (and sex ;-)) hehe

  8. Hmmmmmmm. He looks about as French as French dressing.

And exactly what does a French citizen, aka a Frenchman, look like?

Welcome to the 21st century by the way.

Not quite sure what a French citizen looks like.

But by the sound of this guy's name, he might not be welcome any more in the home country of the French people who have a name with a French resonance.

Here is what a typical French look like hahaha ;-)

  9. Wow, the guy is really showing his colors, ain't he? A dictator of his ilk won't stand much longer for a free flow of information and public expression of opinion on the internet. But I guess that would come after the shuttering of the judicial branch of gov't.? I'm afraid our days are numbered.

don't worry too much...The General is known to be one of The Former Minister Taksin's opponent. He was the one who ousted him before. He doesn't like any of the Shinawatra family so he is now kicking the asses of all the allies of the Shinawatras.

    lucky you werent raped

a guy in Chiang Mai, "claimed" he was attacked after answering the door,

    I didnt believe him,

were you awake for any of these?

Awake ? in 2004(or 2005) yes ! I just stayed maybe 5-10 min talking in the room, but left my things with wallet unattended on the floor for a few minutes (somebdy was under the bed and I thought to be alone with a LB) although I finally decided not to do anything with a LB ! and left quickly but in 2013 I was asleep...

  11. "Cantonal police officials say asylum seekers, illegal immigrants and other nationals travelling to Switzerland from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco, Romania, Georgia, ex-Yugoslavia and eastern Europe are behind much of the recent increase in burglaries and thefts (see freeform below) that affected especially French-speaking regions and the cities of Zurich, Basel and Bern.

Last year 1,150 people from Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Libya, mostly young, male asylum-seekers staying at centres in cantons Zurich, Aargau and St Gallen, were charged with offences by the Zurich cantonal police. Between 2009-2012 the total number of investigated cases involving North Africans tripled."

Same in other EU countries...., sadly...(Belgium, France, Spain, Italy, Germany...)

    Impeach her? She's gone already.

She is gone, but still needs to be punished. I'm guessing she will get a fine of around 600 billion(or however much it is found that her clan have stolen from the Thai people) and with any luck a lengthy prison sentence to deter any future politician from emptying the state's coffers to enrich their family in such an arrogant and blatant manner. Fair is fair.

.....if she is still around at that time. The Shinawatra have a tendency to fly abroad when they have to face the music!

    Like criminals do....
