ha ha just look at those countries , Quality Tourists ?? but dont worry we will get our money back , in fines,by not reporting where you are staying he he
I have my own condo in Pattaya since nearly 10 years, and the last time I was there with a 2 months tourists visa, when I went to Jomtien immigration to ask for a 30 day extension (usually 1900 baht), the girl who checks your paper hypocritically gave me a small paper with an old law never enforced for particulars but normally for the hotels, stating that I had, only 24 or 48 hours I don't remember to come to immigration after my arrival to tell them that I stay in my OWN CONDO !! And as I did not, I broke the law and had to pay a fine of I think 1600 or 1900 before to be able to pay the 1900 to get my extension !!! That is just pure RIP-OFF and another thing that will prevent people to come... I understand that the hotels must do that but with my visa and also on the card received in the plane for immigration, THEY ASKED ME ALREADY WHERE I WILL STAY. And in fact, it is even worse than that, if you want to full respect this law, in my case, as a condo owner, if I sleep even 1 night in a hotel (who must report my identité), in Pattaya, or in another city, I also have to go to immigration to report my adress when I come back to my condo !!!!
Sad to see how dishonnest and greedy even thai immigration has become... (and same with floating market, thai national Parks and many other administrations or places related to foreigner tourists)

It's rather clear that it's a stunt between the mom and daughter.. The thai wife is a complice for sure ! If I was the Swedish husband, I would have now some serious doubts !First a big relief to all that this was not another case of a dishonest bank employee robbing a foreign customer's account,.
Second, a big lesson the to poor Swede in trusting the family of his Thai wife...sorry but the facts speak for themselves.
Third, is is very very disrespectful from the Thai wife who should feel herself lucky to have a generous foreign provider, to try to minimalise the theft from her daughter, as that's the impression one get's on reading.

Vodka is really cheap in Thailand @ 150bht for 700ml.
Learn to adapt and drink the local liquors.
Or stay in your home country and enjoy cheap beer while sitting on your patio in the snow.
what you mention is NOT vodka, they call it "White Spirit"...not the same taste, and probably even more unhealthy...
And if you try Lao Khao , it's even more dangerous...I heard u can become blind if u drink too much of it, probably contains a bit of methanol..

Because in Thailand, the government added several times excise taxes over the year....Even 15 years ago it was already more expensive for a San Miguel Light for example than in the Philippines where they are produced and where the taxes on beers and alcohol are very low....Nowadays the price difference between a San Mig Light in a 7/11 in Thailand and in the Philippines is even bigger !
I see now on the website https://www.honestbee.ph/en/groceries/stores/robinsons/departments/8019/categories/41749
the price of 300 ml san mig light is 32.75 PHP which is 20.3 THB ....a few years ago I think I saw the san mig light around 25 or 27 PHP...
As you can see, a Tiger (330 ml) is 31.25 PHP( 19.35 baht)...and a Heineken 330 ml although imported also is 46.50PHP (28.81 baht)...how much is it in Thailand now ? ;-)

Mai mee tang: Chok dee... Good luck but without either a guarantor in the EU that earns at least 1400€ monthly and is willing to take the risk to guarantee she will not stay in EU after 3 month (the guarantor can have to pay all the expenses of detention, her flight ticket, as well as 1 or 2 return flight for policemen to fly with her to make sure she goes back.. Also eventual hospital costs etc.. That can reach easily 10000 or 15000€...)..
Or she needs to have a regular last 3 months bank statement with average 800-1000 baht daily income and enough money to pay for her expenses while in EU...
Without regular job and /or property, I guess it will be impossible to get her visa unless you or a friend can "guarantee" her (even if you have enough money in the bank but DO NOT EARN AT LEAST 1400 €net, you are not allowed to guarantee her)

You couldn't possibly add any more to the confusion.
It's simple, smoking cigarettes is safer for your health in Thailand.
it's better for the taxes, for sure..

Well I would say a Driving License is obtained in your own country
& a Driving Permit (even though obtained in your own country ), is called a Permit due to the fact that you don't have a Drivers License for the said country of visit. So therefore it's Permitting you to drive / ride for a permitted time in the country of visit & would be identifiable as it has several language translations of your credentials.
ok, name it as you want, in French, it's the same name. The fact is that if you come as a tourist for holiday just a few weeks, you will obviously not have to pass an exam just for beeing allowed to drive a rented car or motorbike. The police and I think your insurance require an International Driving "Permit" (or licence), whatever you name it.

No-it's a permit.
That is all-as many posters have pointed out.Too many..far too many..far,far too many..
I don't understand. in French it's called "permis de conduire", in English, "driving licence", so what's the difference ? I'm not sure to understand your post

There is no international drivers license.
There 2 types of international drivers permits.
Thailand recognises 1 type...but normally if your home country license has a photo and English language explaining license holder and vehicle categories there is no problems, of course you have to have motorcycle category entitlements to drive a motorcycle and car entitlements to drive a car etc etc.Sorry but you are wrong: Thailand recognises 2 types: thai driving licence and of course "International driving licence", I'm 100% sure as I had to do it in my own country (Belgium), this is just a paid formality, I even had to renew my own 35 years old-national (big format) driving licence last year to the new european credit card format (and had to pay) before beeing able to renew my international driving licence which had only a 5 years validity. I come in Thailand since 2003 and I have already been controlled by the cops of course.

I read this story on a German website in German language; guess how good that will go down on tourism. The license checking remains the duty of the company renting out the bikes as an EU license is valid in many non-European countries. A Thai license is valid in all ASEAN countries except Vietnam (for whatever reason), so it might be really easier for the bike rental to set the record straight.
Anyhow, good news for tourism - again!Exactly, the company renting out motorbikes should NOT accept to rent if the foreigner does not have an international driving licence.

try asking them what a 1km fare should be and see were that gets you
it should be 25baht but they will say anything from 40-60baht
time for Grab to be fully operating in Pattaya - that should shut them up
Exactly !! They never ever respect the maximum fare per distance that has been written in the law lately I remember seeing that last year

People have been saying that on this forum since it started.
Yet Thailand has more tourists every year.
Grumpy expats might not like it - but Thailand is booming. The tourism trade is booming.
Whatever the authorities are doing - might make it less fun for aging sexpats but it's still working to bring in more tourists.
Mostly Chinese that don't go in bars and paid everything in China before to come....

The fact she speaks Arabic and probably French aswell being Moroccan it makes her job alot easier in targeting Arabs, rich pickings for her.
Most of the terrorists are men from Morrocco (remember the bombing and killings in Brussels, Paris etc...), now it looks like there is also some scams to do for some scumbag ladies of Morrocco, they can indeed speak Arabic and as they come to Thailand, they think it's safier than in their own or in the guy's Arabic own country where they can face much heavier sentences if convicted of such criminal facts like stealing and scamming... Also, they know that in Thailand, those rich guys from the emirates or from the rich oil countries come to spend a lot of money and pay prostitutes...It is unusual (until now) to meet an Arabic speaking woman (that is a prostitute and a scammer) in Pattaya, so he must have been confident...
Fortunately, there are also good and respectful people in or from Morrocco..but not many lol..

They can earn good money from wherever they want just by trading online cryptocurrencies...strange journey. all the way to phuket just to fly to london...and to work there?
he could stay in thailand, get married with an old farmer and spend the rest of his life
in serene and sun light.
i guess all the world wants to get to london where they think they will get rich
cause the pound is "expensive"...as the english pop song goes : "everybody
want to rule the world".

Actually.
Croissant is not french.
It was the bread baked by the starving Vienna people after the Turks ( or was it Ottomans or Byzanthines ?) after they gave up the siege of Vienna.
Ah .....history is so full of surprises - and history never ends.
By his name you can also easily tell he is not real French from French origin!

Violent actions of any sort with a conviction will resort in deporting and a black listed. Collins is gone if the Thai guy keeps on with it. Even if he doesn't it could be the prosecutor picks it up personally and proceeds. don't see much wiggle room here on this, even if there suddenly appears to be a video of the cat and mouse driving leading up to the machete in hand. Sorry for the little girl.
On the other hand, 68 and having a kid! OMG!
Not 68 years old, not even 72,he said he was 77! And I understood in the yesterday's article that his wife was carrying the baby so he just made another kid... At 76 maybe

Why not let the competition operate like in the Philippines? There now the regular taxi's have put their prices down to compete with Uber and Grab and all this is good for the consumer !!
-
Also in the Philippines, there are much less taxes and ou can find the Red Horse very cheap or even the San Miguel (light or not) cheaper than in Thailand !!
Why are the Philippines then not in the ranking ??

a tourist does OF COURSE not need a thai driving licence, it is almost impossible, and would be absolute nonsense if a tourist on a 30 day visa exemption or on a tourist visa, only here for a few weeks or sometimes just 1 week or 10 days should be forced to go to immigration, doctor, and pass all the paperwork and hassle to be able to rent a motorbike or car and be in order and coverred by insurance... it would then be a reason more for good tourists to never come back or chose a more reasonable country where they are welcome and considered...but with an international driving licence or permit, it is ok. I checked again to be sure ( because I heard also this information) in the local police on soi 9 in Pattaya. but with them you never know... I would not be surprised..
