  1. '.. i embrace 'farang'.. once a thai person knows me and where i am from.. then i am not farang.. maybe i am then dang jing-jo (red kangaroo) or something .. 555

I hate to break it to you, but no matter how well you get to know the locals, how much at home you feel here, you will always be a farang. It may translate as 'a foreigner', but what it means is 'not one of us'

and sadly, you will never be a kangaroo, red or not.

\QUOTE: dangman: 'go to your nearest temple and meditate on it.. it isn't offensive.. it's just a word for the people from overseas, dude.' \END QUOTE

true, the term 'farang' isn't offensive per se, however, it is is ALWAYS used as a division between us and Thais. No matter how well u integrate, u shall always remain just a farang, never a Thai

on topic: will Sala Daeng flood? 3 days from now? 4?

  2. half a glass of water is all it took :D

I'm wondering, where to find new logic board (other than Mac dealers where the new board costs as much as new laptop)

there are refurbished logic boards on Ebay, but sellers are all from HK.

But I'm wondering, do Unlimitmac.com or Mac2hand.com here in Bangkok do logic board repairs or sell refurbished boards.

Does anybody have any experience with those guys, please?

  3. Truth is, the debate never was about science; most of the deep (Global Warming) alarmism comes from dispossessed Marxists, who were homeless after the collapse of the USSR.

this could possibly the strangest post in the history of ThaiVisa

  4. oh, Jing, I was kidding about the 2L of sugary pink soft drink consumption.. I drink one small bottle of super tasty pink Oishi sometimes, and every time it makes me feel guilty as hell cos all the sugar that's in it, no joke.

what I really consume all day is Pepsi Max. I suppose now you will say Aspertame kills. Well, after drinking many, many cubic meters (cubic tons?) of Pepsi Max, I.m happy to to report I am alive and semi well.

Green sugarless Oishi still sucks tho.

  5. They really can't stop cars because there is nowhere to pull them over on most streets which are all too busy and narrow - so they're left alone. Perhaps they're worried about the drivers pulling out guns too.

and besides, car drivers are not required to wear a helmet, so even if the cops pull them over, where's the profit in that??

Tropo, as busy and intense as Bangkok traffic is, it has it's logic, there are rules. Pattaya traffic is just random

  6. it isn't even that Pattaya drivers are aggressive or impatient, many simply can't drive. So many Pattya drivers have never heard of turn signal, or simply looking in a side mirror before changing lane or making a turn. Pattaya drivers drive like they were alone in an open field, typical Pattaya driver doesn't seem to be aware that they are not the only car on the road. Bangkok drivers know how to drive. They do make sharp cut offs, they keep very short distance to car in front of them, but they don't drive like a blind people. Typical Honda City driver in Pattaya drives like a blind girl. In Pattaya the newer the car, the more unpredictable the driver. Maybe if there was some sort of drivers exam, a test of some sort before people get a drivers licence and are allowed to drive, it would be less hazardous to be in the road here

  7. Arriving in Bangkok on the 18th November. What do you guys think. Is it better just to stay home?

April is a great month in Thailand, Songkran festival is fun in Bangkok and the weather is fantastic. Everyone will definitely be in a much better mood.

do NOT follow the advice of ParadiseLost! At the very least don't act according to to 1 user opinion.

jks107107, If you feel you need to postpone your flight, so be it.. but no matter what, DO NOT take advice from a forum user who claims Songkran is fun. In fact, no matter how bad the flood situation is, it can't be as bad as Songkran. And the weather in April is unbearably hot and humid. Pls do not base your travel plans on one users opinion. Sala Daeng will most likely remain dry, by the end of this weekend we know for sure. You have almost 3 weeks to decide, nobody knows what BKK will be like in 3 weeks time

  8. I doubt diabetes is an issue if I keep tasty Pink Oishi stuff (it isnt really tea, is it?) consumption under 2L a day .. ok, maybe 4L on hot sticky April days

regardless, they better have the pink stuff available by Nov 10th or I gonna leave for KL. Floods or not.

  9. Thank you for the infrormative link, Smokie36!

    I ADORE yolk!

The white part looks and tastes boring and useless.. but they say that is where the protein is. Sometimes (every spring) when I get all 'Yo, I'm gonna get a six pack for the summer' I devour copious amounts of raw egg whites. Let me tell you, brother, egg whites are not tasty at all! And six pack never happens! of course that could be due to avoiding gym. Or, it could simply all be a vast egg white conspiracy

    :)

  10. Jingthing, as a fellow egg lover, I take these latest news with the greatest of exubaration!

God willing, the egg supply will not be interrupted ever again!

BTW, when dietitians say you should only eat egg whites, they are SO wrong! Even tho egg whites are the purest form of protein we can get (and it is) please my fellow expats, do not disregard the yellows in haste. All this cholesterol nonsense about egg yellows and cholesterol is just BS.

It pains me to admit this, but this also applies to eggs imported from Malaysia (Farang eggs if you will) I am suspicious about any egg that didn't come from Thai chicken. But one must compromise ones principles in the time off crises.

I would call for an Egg Festival, but it is difficult to make friends with fellow egg lovers in Pattaya, I find..
