  1. Glutamate is harmless. MSG is just that with a sodium ion on the end. You are a hypochondriac.

Salt is also harmless. It is just chlorine with a sodium ion on the end.

Take out the sodium, and see what happens.

Stop extrapolating your ignorance onto others.

sodium choride is not comparable to monosodium glutamate. If you take away the sodium atom in salt, you end up with chorine, a toxic substance. If you take away the sodium from monosodium glutate you end up with "The carboxylate anions and salts of glutamic acid [which]are known as glutamates. In neuroscience, glutamate is an important neurotransmitter that plays a key role in long-term potentiation and is important for learning and memory.[4]"

Ignorance is certainly on display in one of the above postings, but I'll refrain from pointing out in which one it lies.

True - ignorance is the common trait of all humanity, and I don't exclude myself.

    However...

Glutamic Acid (a non-essential amino acid) is not the same as Monosodium Glutamate - MSG does not have the same function in the body, does not cross the blood-brain barrier in healthy humans, and is not even detoxified by the same metabolic pathway in the liver.

The point is, your comparison between MSG and its precursor GA is invalid, as any slight alteration to an organic compound often turns it from a beneficial substance into a potentially toxic one.

  2. Make sure the seeds aren't from america, king of genetically modified foods. Solutions are not as simple as you think.

You can't seriously compare deadly formalin's instant toxicity with possible long-term effects from GMO grains.

Everything is toxic to the body at certain levels, even water intake in high amounts. This is the favourite argument used by people who give up on life, with the "everything kills you" argument.

  3. Hi, I have now finished testing most of what I wanted to test. I will

do some more testing, but this will mostly be related to how much time

my air purifier needs to make the room clean, and what speed setting is

necessary when the pollution is extra heavy, so is probably of little general

    interest.

There was quite a bit of data gathered, and so I found it easiest to use

my regular document processing system for my own thinking and analyising.

While I admittedly did not pay much attention to others possibly reading

this document when I started on it, I have tried to attach my document as a

PDF-file with this message and have tried to make it more readable for others,

in case anyone else should be interested in reading it.

My short conclusion is that the 3M Filtrete material works, and does

improve things somewhat, but much less than I expected. 3M Filtrete

simply wrapped around a fan also improves things considerably. But only the

air purifier brings the particle count down to fair level, at least without too

    much noise.

Awesome report based on local conditions - much appreciated! thumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ce.dtxKiAJ9C7.gifthumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ce.dtxKiAJ9C7.gifthumbsup.gif.pagespeed.ce.dtxKiAJ9C7.gif

  4. What else did i learn from that video.

I can see they did paint the basketball field and other stuff near the lake.

The festival center looks like it has trouble reaching it's original opening day march 1.

There was no walking street that day near monkey bay bar.

They torn down several buildings the last year in Chaweng.

They didn't get rid of those green ugly rubber thingies out in the water on Chaweng beach.

They got rid of the funny monkey statues near chaweng lake.

He got quite close to the powerlines/trees down near the Duke.

He spooked a couple of buffaloes.

Hmmm... what else did I learn from this excellent video:

Step back five metres from the beaches, and urban Samui is mostly a garbage-ridden sprawl.

  5. I've been having loads of problems with 3bb in Chiang Mai as well. Incredibly slow a lot of the time and other times normal.

Same here. And I know it's not my router/modem/line because I've been monitoring line quality all day.

I've just called 3BB support and asked for a technician to call back. Surprisingly he called back almost immediately and told me that they are having some international access server issues, and can't tell me when the service will be running as normal again - refreshing honesty.

I find it helps if I unplug the modem for about 10 seconds and plug it back in.

This may help when the ADSL connection at the IP end is a poor one, and a new one is assigned when reconnecting. But not likely to help with the current 3BB problems.

BTW, I'm using nothing but the latest state-of-the-art solid-state equipment:

  6. Poor ADSL connectivity (which in this case seems localised) usually points to line noise problem. These problems (due to faulty wire connections, interference from electrical lines, broken up old copper wire, etc) tend to be intermittent, so a linesman may not pick it up just by just listening for line noise through a phone.

The best way I've found to monitor line noise is with RouterStats, a neat app that records line stats via your own modem.

This is what a healthy line looks like:

  7. <Sigh> Another non-related thread hijacked by the same old dog haters...

If you have problems with small social animals one-fifth your size, then you probably need to take a closer look at your own life.
