  1. Are you pre-paid? Post-paid? Have you switched to the new AIS 2100 MHz 3G subsidiary? (AWN).

You can register for/enable IR via the eServices Android app, or the web-based platform, or call (1175) or email AIS ([email protected]).

    http://www.ais.co.th/roaming/en/index.aspx

Should have everything re: voice and data. Start with your customer type, then get to Malaysia to see your options re: roaming partners.

Obviously your phone would need to support the requisite frequencies.

  2. Is anyone having battery issues with their S4? Mine is only 3 months old and has a very annoying issue which seems to be explained here http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s4-battery-swelling-free-replacements-samsung-284308/

Can you go into Settings, More, Battery and tell us the top three or four services, applications, sub-systems which are listed, along with the percentages?

Exchange Services is typically one culprit. Or maybe you have some other "leaky" application?

If Exchange Services is at the top please report back, and also let us know what your email requirements are, specifically re: hotmail, outlook, calendar push etc.

If Cell Standby is at or near the top of list report back.

Also maybe turn off NFC and some of that other dreck/bloatware like eye-tracking, air-gesture et al., unless you are overly attached to one or more of these.

Do anyone know when Android 4.3 are getting released for the thai version of the phone? It's already released in most countries

Maybe check with Samsung/Thailand, or trawl some Thai social/tech forums. Alternatively you could flash a stock 4.3 ROM from another geography.

  3. If you don't need a smartphone don't buy one.

Dumb phones still outnumber smartphones 2:1.

Worldwide Smartphone Subscriptions To Reach 5.6 Billion By 2019 With Networks To Cover 90 Percent Of World’s Population

With the popularity of smartphones increasing among consumers, a new report released on Monday expects worldwide mobile-phone subscriptions to reach 9.3 billion by 2019, with smartphones accounting for 5.6 billion, or more than 60 percent, of those subscriptions.
According to the latest Mobility Report, released by Ericsson (NASDAQ:ERIC), a Stockholm, Sweden-based provider of communications technology and services, both WCDMA and HSPA networks are estimated to cover 90 percent of the world’s population over the next six years. In addition, nearly 65 percent of the world’s population is expected to be covered by 4G LTE (long-term evolution) networks.

It seems like there have been various efforts on the Yom River, from one, single mega-dam, to multiple smaller dams, since forever. Local resistance, since 1991, to the Yom River mega-dam in Kaeng Suea Ten, Song, Phrae is well documented.

Understand locals, who are most impacted, are generally against these projects.

  5. There are real studies going on showing how constantly being on smart phones and the internet is literally making us stupider and less able to focus compared to 30 years ago.

Again, sez the guy posting on the internet. cheesy.gif Did that post make you "stupider"?

Other than obviously impacting you personally, can you share any details re: these "real studies"?

  6. I have just done a speed test and my download has increased from 116 to 528
and upload 42 to 269. does this mean I am now getting 3G speed?
    Yes.
The UI for your aircard should display the status of your connection, maybe across the top-most part of the screen. Some UI's also give even more detail, perhaps down a level or two within the management system.
You were probably relying on GSM (2G: GPRS/EDGE) mobile data before.

  7. If it happens,so be with it. We deal with it. But for now I am saving over $20 each time I make a transfer and I don't have to put up with the BS from my bank, just do it online fast and simple.

It sounds like you successfully set up the ACH process.

My bank, BofA, requires a One-Time Password, OTP, sent to a mobile phone to initiate an on-line "outside-the-bank" ACH transfer via BBL/NY to my BBL account here. Until recently my T-Mo (U.S./pre-paid) phone did not roam here, < it now does >, so I had changed my contact (mobile) number with BofA to my Google Voice number, which can send/receive SMSes, sent via GMail. Google Voice is a (currently/on-going) free real 10-digit telephone number in the U.S., which offers a multitude of features and functions. This process has worked well and there is no need for the SafePass card (only $20, but yet another device to keep track of).

    BofA charges $3, BBL/NY charges $10, and BBL/TH charges 200 - 500 baht, so typically cost-effective for large-scale transfers?

  8. My best guess is that AIS recently turned up 2100 MHz 3G service in your location, and your AIS aircard is 2100 MHz 3G compatible.

You should contact AIS or visit an AIS/TWZ shop:

1.) Transfer your SIM account from AIS to AWN, the new AIS 2100 MHz subsidiary.

2.) Possibly replace your SIM as if it is more than a few years old it may not be compatible with the new system.

3.) Possibly re-subscribe to a new mobile data plan.

  9. Just as an FYI, TrueMove H is a reseller of CAT's 850 MHz 3G, so while CAT may now have 14,000 base-stations, and TrueMove H resells their 3G service on at least 11,000 of those. It may be easier to deal with TrueMove H than CAT, in that TrueMove H offers quite a few pre-paid SIMs/plans/promotions which are widely available.

TOT also have3G/2100 MHz deployed in/around Phrae.

AIS/2100 MHz 3G coverage is also expanded throughout Phrae.

    http://www.ais.co.th/3g/en/coverage-checker.aspx#tips

Again, talk with neighbors. I might try TrueMove H and AIS/2100 MHz SIMs to experiment.

  10. Author's (of the OP linked article) self-penned bio...

I am an economic analyst and anti-economic bubble activist who was recognized by the London Times for predicting the Global Financial Crisis. I am currently warning about growing bubbles in Canada, Australia, Nordic countries, China, emerging markets, Web 2.0 startups, U.S. higher education, and more.

    "and more"? cheesy.gif

Seems like this knuckle-head would have been able to profit from all his predictive capabilities, make a fortune and retire, rather than stay on as a "anti-economic bubble activist"? He probably predicted the Dutch Tulip Bubble too. whistling.gif

  11. Did you purchase a ticket? If so, can you share any details re: approx dep/ret, routing, carriers (code-shares?). 850 CAD all in sounds like a potential "mistake-fare" - which UA typically honors - or a one-way, or sans YQ (fuel surcharge, which can be another 600 CAD).

I can see into some GDSes and do see what appears to be some potential mistake(s) on UA, but it could also be a promotional fare...

  12. I think he means that, on level 4, you could walk all the way to the right, down near/past doors #1 and #2, and walk around on the pavement to the outer curb to circumvent the turnstiles/barriers, then maybe make your way back down to where there might taxis dropping people off? I guess you could do the same in the opposite direction? Then you'll still have to deal with the authorities who, for the time being, seem intent on discouraging this activity.

  13. I might ask someone in Thailand to add money to your SIM, or contact TrueMove (H) to see if they can extend the expiry, while taking a small fee, or make a call, yes it must connect, or send a text, or try to recover it upon your return.

A lot depends on your situation/goals/objectives, and if you've enabled IR and have a signal wherever you may be.

Best case is probably + 60 days, do you plan to return within that time-frame, or will you require yet another top-up?
