  1. And now they're selling bonds to pay for the rice.

And the Ministry of Finance will probably buy all these bonds. Round and round she goes, where she stops, nobody knows.

They've been trying to auction white and Hom Mali but the bids have been deemed too low.

The Public Debt Management Office (PDMO) said yesterday the BAAC will issue a three-year bond worth 75 billion baht to continue the scheme.
"The bond will be sold to the public on Nov 29," said Suwit Rojanawanich, the office's public debt adviser.
Mr Suwit said the BAAC's notes for the programme are fully guaranteed by the Finance Ministry.
Next year the BAAC will consider whether to issue bonds or another term loan.

  2. OK, it sounds like you have an AIS SIM in your Nokia 110, which you are utilizing as a GSM data (GPRS/EDGE) dial-up modem while tethered to your PC via Bluetooth. Assuming you have a signal from AIS you should be able to get mobile data, albeit at slow speeds.

My best guess is that you are having issues with the Bluetooth configuration? Did your set-up ever work successfully with the new Bluetooth adapter?

You could also get a USB aircard for less than 1,000 baht, and use your AIS SIM in that device. Or assuming you have 3G from AIS/2100, DTAC or TrueMove H/850, try a new SIM i anew aircard. Again, this is why you have to talk to neighbors to see what is available - trust me someone is using 3G - or be prepared to experiment with different SIMs.

  3. Assuming you are eligible for the InterSIM rates, 00600 can be as low as 1 baht/min to land-lines...

    http://truemoveh.truecorp.co.th/3g/sim-truemoveh/prepaid/entry/2271

Calling cards with free local access typically offer these same rates, which are more a function of local regulatory issues (termination fees) in the called country.

  4. Is anyone having battery issues with their S4? Mine is only 3 months old and has a very annoying issue which seems to be explained here http://www.androidauthority.com/galaxy-s4-battery-swelling-free-replacements-samsung-284308/

Did you ever get this problem sorted?

I've successfully sorted out some SGS4 battery issues re: Exchange Services. but am now running into a lot of complaints re: "Google Play Services" (consuming 60+%). This seems to be a common issue of late, perhaps addressed by Android 4.3, but there is still no release for the SGS4/THL. Play Store rev. is 4.4.21 (I have 4.4.22 on my GNex 4/Android 4.4.)

  5. ^ My best guess is that "since 2006" means in the last seven years - BTW, quite by accident I flew out of Suvarnabhumi at 06:30 on 28 Sep. 2006 (UA: BKK-NRT), and that sometimes people check out the official taxi queue, perhaps on their way down to the SARL or seeing a long line and no taxis, head back up to level 4. Again, quite easy to comprehend, but understand we have many here who are challenged by the simplest of concepts, or who do not understand English.

I have used level 4 to grab a taxi, sometimes going to nearby Prawet, or because the official taxi queue is swamped, with a 30+ minute wait. But then, a few years ago during a temporary crack-down, I saw officials pulling people out of taxis on level 4, so not wanting to waste time going up, then down again, just head to level 1 now, and suffer the potential wait, which is 5 min. minimum, 30 minutes maximum. Yes, I often arrive at peak times. And, many air crew, who I have known for years, living here also head up to level 4 to save time.

Not sure how we got down this rat-hole, OK, I do know, this is ThaiVisa, but I think it is safe to say that most people who head up to level 4 do this to save time, rather than money.

  6. Toronto mayor Rob Ford loses more powers

The Toronto city council has voted to strip Mayor Rob Ford of most of his authority, as the embattled city leader resists growing pressure to step down.
On Monday, the council transferred most of Mr Ford's budget and many of his powers to the deputy mayor.
I am really glad he isn't from the US

Seems to be a fairly common problem, south of the border...

Rep. Trey Radel (R-Fla.) charged with cocaine possession

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2013/11/19/rep-trey-radel-r-fla-charged-with-possession-of-controlled-substance/

He faces a maximum of 180 days in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Good thing he's not black, he be in jail for 20 + years.

  7. I've had TOT Wi-net for about two years now and recommended it regularly during that time but we've had nothing but problems for the last 5-6 weeks.

Like many things operated by a moribund state agency, there is a big initial flourish then the thing is left to rot away.

As I mentioned in a previous post, "this topology has inherent limitations - line of sight, interference, back-haul capacity, and may not scale. Like anything, it will work until it doesn't.".

Since all up-link bandwidth is shared, and voice gets priority, you should expect spotty performance. But it beats a sharp stick in the eye.

  8. Always a good idea to cancel data plans if you will not be needing them:

How to cancel internet package services

IVR automated service dial dialhicon.pnghicon1.pnghicon0.pnghicon0.pnghicon4.pnghicon1.pngiconcall(1).pnghicon9.png(free of charge)
    dtac call center, dial 1678 press 77 (3 Baht/call, include 7% VAT )
dtac service centers and dtac centers nationwide
I deduce that that plan automatically renews, as do all Happy Unlimited Internet packages, which seemed evident from the original service reply you posted:
Your Happy internet unlimited 199B/7D on-top promotion for this usage period is valid until 00:00 on 19-Nov-13 and you have 37 remaining usage period(s),
As I said previously, the translated terms and conditions seem to clearly indicate automatic renewal:
3.18 package Happy internet unlimited unlimited usage per week, 199 eligible for the 52 weeks after the first application. With adequate remaining amount and date. And permission for use on 3G technology at speeds up to 42 Mbps speed after 1GB will cut up to 384 Kbps.
I guess you could plead that you did not understand the terms and conditions, and perhaps they will reinstate some/all of your balance?
Obviously it is incumbent on the consumer to become familiar with the terms and conditions, no matter how challenging. But I understand not everyone agrees with this concept.
  9. Most service providers have buffet, and special number plans, which allow for reduced on-net cost calling.

You'll have to get everyone on the same provider, then grind through the various promotions and plans.

It sounds like you have a good handle on your usage patterns: many short calls, few long calls.

TrueMove H have this Comfortable SIM, which offers quite low cost on-net calling, at least until 28 Feb. 2014:

  10. If you want to test apps. with Android 4.3 and 4.4 then you could get a GNex 4 here for 12,900. It comes with 4.3, and Google just released 4.4/KitKat factory images for the GNex 4 a few days ago.

I just flashed 4.4 on my GNex 4, and have not encountered any issues, although a lot of problematic apps. have been updated over the past few days. Great modem/baseband, BTW. (Attached speedtest is from DTAC, before rooting and adding AdAway ;) . )

The GNex 5 does have some unique characteristics/capabilities vis-a-vis 4.4, I guess if you have budgetary constraints then you could order one from the U.S.? I think you could probably land it here for $425 all in, assuming no undue challenges with Thai customs/Excise officials.

  11. A bit off topic but here goes: I pay ais 100 baht for 20 hours. There is no mention of gb. So what have I got? 3g?

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

    Yes, but...

Time-based plans are usually limited to 384 Kbps for obvious reasons, which can be delivered over 3G, or GSM (2G:GPRS/EDGE: ~ 200 Kbps avg.)

If you want higher speeds you'll have to subscribe to a volume-based plan (daily/weekly/monthly: capped or uncapped, one time or recurring). You might also consider porting to the new AIS/2100 MHz subsidiary (AWN), and maybe get a new SIM.

  12. As I mentioned Note2 is one of the phones with higher spec. and now S4 has a drop in price which both phones will do better than Nexus either on battery or Hardware. HTC devices are also great . This my personal idea and I'm not imposing it . for me I will not consider to buy N5 at 16K+

So buy a Note 2 or SGS4, and stop dreaming about a GNex 5? Seems straight-forward enough to me?

Note that Google does sell un-locked, un-subsidized, Pure Android variants of popular models, on the U.S. Play Store:

    HTC One: $599

    Samsung Galaxy S4: $649

  13. I still have the will power and self control to not read posts from those that I find irritating or foolish.

So you've built and maintain your own "Ignore" list? The forum feature simply automates your amazing "will power" and "self control".

Seriously, it used to be good when it included the ability to block avatars. I think it got a lot more use then?

Also, be careful if you add someone, and then they later become a Moderator as it is against the ToS to block messages - which is a feature within the "Manage Ignore Preferences" menu - from Moderators.

  14. From the SRTET "Announcement":

However, the development of facilities and commercial zones, including duty-free shops, must be completed before the check-in service can be expanded, he added.

    So be patient.

I honestly did not even realize they were still allowing check-in at the CAT; I thought that it had long ago been shut down, and the CAT just now only used to film TV commercials and dramas?

But the TG/OZ web-site has a recent update, which I assume is accurate - the check in from T-3 to T-12 hours is handy...

Check-In Service Now Open at Bangkok City Air Terminal, Makkasan Station
Thai Airways International has opened a check-in service at Bangkok City Air Terminal (BCAT) at Makkasan Station for passengers and their baggage flying THAI Domestic and International flights.

  15. I would speak with neighbors to see if CAT/TrueMove H, or TOT have 3G nearby.

AIS may be transitioning from 900 MHz to 2100 MHz in your locale. I honestly can't follow your exact situation - ramblings about TV/CTH et al., are not necessary; more details re: your exact equipment (make/model) and what mobile data plan you've been subscribing to would help, how much data do you need per month, and what is your budget.

Can you share your approximate location?

Then maybe get a shared WiFi device. These allow you to share a mobile data connection in your home via WiFi. Newer smartphones also allow for this capability. http://www.totalaircard.com/categories/3G-Router/3G-Mobile-MiFi/

  16. Trust me, "someone" is collecting, analyzing, reviewing and archiving "Snaps". wink.png

Suspect his investors had at least a little input to the decision?

Evan Spiegel was highlighted in this New Yorker article from April 30, 2012 by Ken Auletta, "Get Rich U", about Stanford...some might enjoy it

On a sunny day in February, Evan Spiegel had an appointment with Wendell and Nasr to seek their advice. A lean mechanical-engineering senior from Los Angeles, in a cardigan, T-shirt, and jeans, Spiegel wanted to describe the mobile-phone application, called Snapchat, that he and a fraternity brother had designed. The idea came to him when a friend said, “I wish these photos I am sending this girl would disappear.” As Spiegel and his partner conceived it, the app would allow users to avoid making youthful indiscretions a matter of digital permanence. You could take pictures on a mobile device and share them, and after ten seconds the images would disappear.

There are no walls between Stanford and Silicon Valley. Should there be?
    BY KEN AULETTA
    APRIL 30, 2012

Stanford University is so startlingly paradisial, so fragrant and sunny, it’s as if you could eat from the trees and live happily forever. Students ride their bikes through manicured quads, past blooming flowers and statues by Rodin, to buildings named for benefactors like Gates, Hewlett, and Packard. Everyone seems happy, though there is a well-known phenomenon called the “Stanford duck syndrome”: students seem cheerful, but all the while they are furiously paddling their legs to stay afloat. What they are generally paddling toward are careers of the sort that could get their names on those buildings. The campus has its jocks, stoners, and poets, but what it is famous for are budding entrepreneurs, engineers, and computer aces hoping to make their fortune in one crevasse or another of Silicon Valley.

  17. You can buy one here for 12,900; official/localized LG version with local warranty.

The GNEX 4 supports all GSM and 3G bands here so no issues working with any/all mobile service providers. 850/2100 MHz are the required 3G frequencies now.

My GNex 4 (purchased form the Play Store in the U.S.) has the Thai language option in Settings, Language & input, Language. Thai characters are displayed and you can use the DroidSans Thai Keyboard, or one of several others, all available for download from the Play Store.

Larger screen Android phones from Samsung are probably cool these days? The GNex 4, and newer 5, run stock Android, and LG doesn't really promote them here so awareness is probably close to zero.

If giving a phone as a gift which you hope will be used, appreciated and remain un-sold, it may be better to find out exactly what the giftee wants, and then wrap that instead of trying to pass off something you might appreciate.
