I live a 5 minute walk from the police box outside Big C Extra and go past often. I have NEVER seen a cop OUTSIDE the box, tho a bike is parked there. No helmet, 3 on a bike, running the red light, offences by the score every day but no action. So the high road toll is not surprising, they don't really care!

Thai police removed after video exposes traffic fine misconduct
biggles45 replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
I have never had a problem with my Philippine licence. I would have taken the receipt to the police station where a more knowledgeable officer would most likely cancel it. An email to the Singapore consulate would have been a good step also. -
Foreign Tourist Swallows Traffic Ticket in Odd Pattaya Incident
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
If, as the news above your post says, he is from Britain, he would not have required a visa under the earlier policy as he gets 30 days visa free. So he could still have holidayed here without a visa the same as a million others. -
' One or two police boxes strategically placed, and a small shop selling safe helmets at a reasonably expensive price.' If only! I live 5 minutes walk from the police box outside Big c extra on Klang and pass regularly. I almost never see a cop outside the box doing anything, even tho his bike is parked there. Literally 100 bikes would stop at the lights with no helmet but they are just too lazy to make the effort. Oh, and you can buy a 'legal' helmet in Big C for under 300 baht less than the fine if the cops were serious.

Pattaya Cracks Down on Foreign Criminals to Boost Tourist Confidence
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Perhaps cracking down on Local criminals, who are the majority, might inspire more confidence in tourists! -
I have an 7yr old Click 125, with a kickstarter, a main reason I bought it. I regularly leave it for 3 to 4 months, under cover. When I return I always start it with the KS, only needs 2 kicks or so, and I only use the KS for a few days when the engine is cold. It still has the original battery and the bike has only 6k on it, very low use and mostly around town. Previous bike was a 125cc Suzuki underbone, with a KS and got 8yrs from that battery as well.

You could double their salaries and still the corruption is so embedded in the RTP that nothing would change. -

The number is probably charged and you can have a long wait in a queue. By the time you get answered you are out of load There are a few apps which give cheap international calls. I have used Talk360 to call OZ from the Philippines successfully. -
UK Pensioners in Thailand Face New Scrutiny Over Pension Fraud
biggles45 replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
This is incorrect. I personally know 3 Oz Citizens receiving the old age pension in Thailand. There are conditions and you don't get the allowances given to those in OZ. -
Thai police report 90% arrest rate in crime crackdown
biggles45 replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
It's only 90% of the crimes they decided to investigate! There's lots in the 'too hard' ad 'too sensitive' baskets I am sure. -
Restaurants taking the biscuit, tax now per person charge !

The added 'service charge' annoys me the most. I will decide if the service was good enough to get a tip. -

ThaiHealth Forum Urges Enhanced Child Road Safety Measures

A waste of time, any rules they come up with will be ignored, by the public and the police. -
We live 8 minutes or so walk from BC Extra, so we do all our shopping there and use the Food court often. Been going there 12 years, never been sick and really have no complaints..... unless the ceiling falls on me of course.

Yes, I agree, in fact an elderly friend has raised 2 kids on it. It's still quite a way short of the 65k required for an extension tho. So they need 800,000 baht in the bank, 400k of which has to be there for the year.
