"Married man", more like a lazy, useless drunk that was sponging off his wife and for some reason pissed off with her enough to shoot her in the head. Jail will be to good for this man.

More than likely the wife refused to have sex with him one to many times when he came home stinking drunk and looking for love and once again trying to rape her.

  2. Well now...

Concerning a subject matter of such grave importance and circulating amongst the Thais....... you will eventually see it on Thai TV and aired on one of their Thai TV drama shows and then, the rumor is forever confirmed as the truth and not to be questioned otherwise

Furthermore, to confirm the validity, eventually Thai monks will bless Thai peoples cell phones and that will prevent the owners from ever being "struck" by lightening ...even if you are not carrying a cell phone...lol

Cell phone blessing costs will range from 100 to 500 baht.....depending.......

And that folks is how it works here in Thailand, while silly superstitions are always a source of amusement.

    Maths problem solved...

Six rescue workers, pickup driver, policeman and motorcyclist makes 9; 7 into 9 still leaves 2 lucky people.

Why are there always a shit-load of bystanders at these accidents; ****in ghouls.  It's as though they're all waiting so they can get some entertainment in their lives.

R I P to the 4 dead, and I hope Karma takes care of the pickup driver.

    Good question

Maybe they want to test their courage and learn if they can "stomach" all the blood and guts....and then they have a: 'I  saw a gruesome accident"  carnage story to tell everyone and explained in gory detail.

Same as why do people like to watch gruesome blood and guts war movies all the time and all the old war documentary films and disaster documentary films and horrifying disaster movies and Hollywood movies about the end of the world and Killer Zombie movies and disturbing serial killer movies and chain saw massacre movies ...and....they pay good money to see that sick stuff...geez...

    I wonder why...I do, I do

Except most of the time it is not real Viagra.  It is a "generic" form of Viagra from India or China and it is dangerous.  It looks the same and has the same packaging much of the time and you buy it from legit pharmacies thinking it is the genuine Viagra.  Thai pharmacies are full of "generic" products being sold as the real thing.  Be very careful out there.

Geez...I thought the whole idea of taking 2 girls is based on the girls providing the stimulus to perform sexually.

    No need for the Viagra...lol

  5. There are practiced emergency procedures that should be implemented for such road side rescue operations...especially at night time.

Several flashing red lights and night time illuminated fluorescent orange color traffic cones, for example, positioned forward of the accident scene and used to forewarn everyone of what is up ahead and indicating the need to slow down.

Also 1 designated rescue worker positioned several hundred meters up the road waving a pulsing red flashlight and wearing a orange color night time illuminated reflective safety vest to forewarn the on coming traffic to slow down.

But nope...they do not properly equip the emergency rescue works with anything other than a pick up truck and sheer bravado.

The gem business, Africa, Thailand - when you join up the dots, certain African countries, such as Zimbabwe, have big gem deposits, and the folks who run those countries make a lot of money out of the gem business for themselves.

So secret is the business, the gem mining areas are no-go and they do not even share the employment of gem polishing within their own country but immediately send the rough stones out to Asia for working - they don't want it generally known inside their own country finding out how much money is involved.

In this example, the Africans will no doubt be in Thailand to carefully audit the progress of the gems and if you ever want to find a place in Thailand where every African will have ALL his/her papers in order, it will be in that business.

    Not like you are implying.

Thailand has been a major international hub of gem trading and jewelry manufacturing going on for over 30 years now while Thailand is the most popular gem trading destination to bring your rough gemstones originating from countries all over the world...not just Africa.

Thailand is in competition with China and India as a market place to bring rough gemstones to for sale as rough and or processing and then sold as loose cut and polished gems.

The authorities have made it easy for gem trading people to come here and conduct their gem trading  business over the years and that includes the immigration laws and no duties or tariffs levied on gemstone rough.

The pay off is realised in the volumes of gemstones traded and business taxes to be levied and employment for Thai people and a whole lot of entrepreneurship involved and thus money exchanged and business conducted and all the spin off effects of a open gem trading market.

It is the means and ways to sustain the business and keep the gemstone suppliers coming to Thailand as a preferred gem trading destination rather than going to China or Hong Kong or India...which they do and of concern to Thai Government authorities who fear a decline in a industry that has, in part, made Thailand world renown and somewhat famous amongst world wide gemstone traders and in the public eye also.

For Thailand, the gemstone trade and gemstone processing and the associated jewelry manufacturing and all that is entailed is a national concern while the relevant authorities are not trying to enforce laws that that would negatively impact the gem trading activities going on in Chantaburi.

The Thais in Chantaburi welcome the African suppliers as that is a big part of how they benefit and profit from the continual supply of many kinds of gemstones that they involve themselves with.

Many Thais also go to the African source countries in an effort to buy cheaper and hopefully make more profit and by pass the competition while it is not "so secret" .......like you imply, rather in some of the African countries the authorities require foreigners to be registered or have partnerships with locals or nationals of that country or have licences to conduct gem trading business but not illegal to buy and sell gemstones to be legally exported.

But of course there is a degree of under the table , so to speak, gem trading activity occurring  and similar to the export of other raw products from those same countries.

There are gem processing companies in those source countries while the governments of those countries encourage the nationals or locals to process the countries gemstone resources but mostly the Gem Traders of that country itself prefer to mine or buy the rough gemstones and export them to Thailand and hopefully sell them all...the good the bad and the ugly quality.

Besides that, all of them like to travel and come to Thailand and prefer Thailand over going to India or China  while a big part of the reason they do come here is because it its "Hassle Free" and friendly and no one really bothers them and or scrutinizes what they do here.

So go down to Chantaburi and witness the open and free market trading of gemstones including the little Africa area where you will see a concentration of Rough gemstone suppliers from many African countries.

    Cheers

  7. I wish they would stop wasting everyone's time with their "Raid Charade"  affairs.

It is not police work of any significance or substance while the public grows weary of their predictable circus show.

It is not what the public wants and not what they should be doing as compared but they spend a inordinate amount of time and resources on such matters.

I can only surmise because it is simply too easy and too obvious and looks good in the press and probably considered their most enjoyable police work.

  8. Consider yourself lucky they are not trying to ream you for more than only 4000 baht.

In 1988 a new customer of mine, while very drunk one late night and driving his motorcycle, had an accident on Sukumvite road.

He claims the Mercedes Benz pulled out in front of him from a side soi,  which is true and the usual, and he plowed into the passenger side of the Mercedes Benz and he went:  "flying and sailing"  at the same time while the girl ( bar girl ) on the back of the bike slammed into the side of the Benz.

The girl was not hurt badly and she got up and quickly left the scene of the accident and never to be seen again.

The guy was taken to the Police Hospital across the street from the Erawan Shrine and ended up staying in the hospital for about 6 days while they had to operate on his skull as he had fluid build up in the brain from the  "wham",  " bam" and "slam you down"  impact from flying over the Mercedes Benz while airborne eventually turned into hard pavement contact.

    Lucky to be alive actually

Anyhow, he finally gets out of the hospital and has to deal with the police who had kept is motor bike.

He comes back to my office and tells me he went to see the police and they want 60,000 baht to have his bike returned to him and telling me the police told him he is lucky the Mercedes Benz driver is not going to make an issue out of the accident ( in other words, implying it was all the motorcycle drivers fault ) and the fact that he was driving while very drunk, as in pissed up drunk and speeding no doubt, down Sukhumvit road at 2 AM in the morning.

He is all angry of course because he feels they are extorting money from him and he says he is going to go back and really have words with those Sons of Bixxches police officers and asks me to come along and help him.

I declined of course and simply advised him to go back and negotiate the lowest price you can and be very polite and smile a lot and Wai them a lot and thank them for all their help and point out that you are still hurting, big time, from the accident and the skull operation and point out a big part of your skull  is missing from the brain fluid drain operation and the nice big scar you will have for the rest of your life....and ...you do not have much money...right?..... hardly any right?? .... and certainly not 60,000 baht ...like that.... and ask for their sympathy and understanding and be merciful and lenient....please.

So he did and he negotiated the price down to 20,000 baht with no further drama from the police while he realised that he got off cheap and hassle free as compared to if the Mercedes Benz driver and or the police wanted to press the issue further.

He came back to my office about 2 weeks later and told me what had happened and showed me how he had his bike fixed up by a Thai friend of his for about 9000 baht ( new front forks and wheel and brake assembly and handle bars and headlight gear and the frame aligned ) as he was so proud of that 250 cc Yamaha that he claimed was his "Baby" and  traveling companion as he claimed he had driven all over Thailand on that motorcycle

I remember how he claimed and adamantly argued that you HAVE to drive fast on the roads and highways in Thailand, when driving a motorcycle, or you will be run off the road by all the crazy Thai style driving, so he drove fast and drove faster than "them" all the time and told me when he did drive slow is when he had all the more near misses and had been run off the road several times when driving slowly and more safely.

He knew more than I did but his driving conduct on that particular night did not work out for him and I would say it was his fault for been thoroughly drunk......and speeding....... and not paying attention.

  9. Well.......I am not a half empty glass type of person...but when I think about the subject matter I also include the liabilities of marrying a Government official because if and when the marriage goes south, you may very well find yourself in a vulnerable position.

At the old Suan Plue immigration office there was a pretty / cute  immigration officer that was sweet on me ( looked great in that deliberately tight fitting provocative uniform and always wearing high heel shoes )  and I thought many times about asking her for a date and starting something with her but every time I thought about it I also thought about what would happen if I pissed her off somehow, some way in our relationship and certainly if we were married, if that was the case.

The negative possibilities were more persuasive than the possible benefits so I did not pursue her interest in me any further.

Now the appeals start! Hopefully he still has a few million baht to pay for lawyers to keep him out of jail for the next 15 years.

Unlike most countries you can appeal after you have been found guilty and stay out on bond. Most countries you go to jail

and appeal while doing your sentence. In Thailand, only the poor go to jail right away.

Yes....and most of them that do turn corrupt do it with the belief they will not be prosecuted because....... they are the police...... and operate with impunity .......an obviously developed mentality that starts right from the beginning of their police career because they know they are surrounded by officers that are making sideline money in numerous ways and often tempted to join in.

It is just a matter of time and or the right opportunity to capitalise on their position as police officers.

"The case is being closely watched in Thailand where it has fuelled complaints that the justice system favours the rich and famous, allowing them to break the law with impunity."

Might as well complain about the weather. Entitlement for the rich and powerful is prevalent in this part of the world and  is accepted. Poor people state that if they become rich, they would break the law if it benefits them.

People don't want to see justice or a crackdown on these crimes. What they want is the same privilege to get away with breaking the law.

Well actually a lot of people are afforded the same privilege in a corrupt environment but not nearly as large a privilege as the elite and wealthy or influential percent of the people and of course depends on how much money you can afford to pay for that privilege .

But not always of course and not in such a blatant manner.

I am really surprised they are going after this guy for so long while there are many other cases that are even more dramatic that have long been forgotten while we do not hear about those cases anymore.

What we do know is: If you are caught out and say you are sorry, sorry , sorry enough times and publically repent in a satisfactory manner then that way most often seemingly appeases the "right" people ( ie: includes, get your wallet out ) and often enough the problem fades away and nearly everyone forgets the story while the media forget it also and then the public are left uninformed and not thinking about those old cases that are even more nefarious and heinous than this guys story.

If the guy did come back on his own and went through all the motions and acts of repent and fabricated excuses and pay offs and pays significant compensation to the family of the police officer and endures the public shaming and media circus then I bet you there would be no prison time ....or very little prison time or "privileged" and comfortable prison time for less than 1 year and then the man could get on with his life and just fade away into the long forgotten by most

He should get at least 10 years in prison, at least ...but he will not

  12. When asking at the immigration department, I have always been told there is a 7 day grace period granted after the reporting date , but after that 7 days it is 1500 baht fine for the first period missed and another 1500 baht for the second period missed and another 1500 baht for the 3 period missed within the one year period and maximum 5000 baht fine for the whole year while you can just miss it for the whole year and pay that maximum fine.

Some miss it without any worry.... but most do not and make arrangements to accommodate the rule.

Meantime, the immigration officials like it when you miss the reporting dates as they get some more "Pay the Fine" money out of the Farang...lol

Bangkok-Chiang Mai in 23 days? that's 750 km, can be done I suppose but I would call it pro long-distance running not leisure walking.

Bu I do agree with you that travelling on a shoestring (remember the first edition of the lonely planet-to-be) is an old established form of tourism. I think this article is pointing, admittedly not very well, at something new indeed: have others pay for your travels.

Although he did not give the details I imagine he got a few free rides in-between the various cities on the way to Chiang Mai

I met him in the market outside of the office I was working and he was trying to buy a smaller portion of the food that was on offer and trying to ask the vendor for a half portion....so I pointed out that some of the fruit was 5 baht, but for a meal, at that time it was still 15 baht for say rice with chicken and he want to buy for half that price...lol

He was an American and told me he did the same or similar thing in Mexico and on the cheap and talked about cheap cheap ways of getting along and hoped to get to India one day as he knew India was even cheaper.

I remember when I first came to Thailand in November of 1979 I went to Phuket and ended up staying at the only beach bungalow affair on Nai Harn beach at what would be the south end of the beach.

There I met people with the objective to just be there and as cheap as possible.

They talked about how Thailand was expensive as compared to India where they could live on the beach for about 2 dollars per day while the cost of staying on Nai Harn beach was expensive at around 4 to 5 dollars per day

They rented the bungalows for long term for 20 to 30 baht per day and  have 1 meal a day or maybe 2 meals sometimes at 10 to 20 baht a meal and drink 1 or 2 beer a day and of course they had their bag of pot that they bought for 50 baht to last them for maybe a week or more and they were happy to just stay there for as long as their visa arrangements would allow them.

They complained bitterly about the cost of having to do a visa run to the border of Thailand and Malaysia.

Every penny was accounted for and guarded judiciously.

  14. Geez...Talk about media sensationalism...once again.

There have ALWAYS been a percent of the foreigners coming to Thailand and doing it on the Cheap, Cheap.

I once met a guy back in 1993 that claimed he had 600 US dollars for 6 months of stay in Thailand and enjoyed walking everywhere with his back pack that included a small pup tent.

He claimed he walked to Chiang Mai and it took him 23 days of leisurely walking telling me the cost of the bus was too expensive so he decided to walk.

Coming back to Bangkok he said was lucky and met people delivering  fruit to Ayuttaya in a pick up truck and they gave him a ride in the back of the truck with the fruit.

Some people will do it the hard and cheap way and call it an adventure of a life time.

    Cheers
