  1. Sorry but I have to disagree. I got it to cut the grass outside the house. Does it work well yes. Snap of grass??? outside before it was cut and another one after. Was thinking of getting a Thai type but having tried it in the shop the straps would have killed me. I don't do hard work. Normally pay a Thai man to do it, but he seemed to have gone on the missing list. The one I got, you just wheel about. No effort required. I have changed the cutting blade to a single one, as even though the wheel type blade worked the single was better with the long grass? and other plants. Does it look like a bowling green??? well no. But it's fine for what I wanted to do.
  2. Not all Tuna drivers are inconsiderate. Having driven in Thailand for over 25 years I have found the most inconsiderate drivers are Benz & BMW owners.
  3. I agree with you T/A. I have a 2.8lt Tuna and it's great on fuel. Around 6lt = 100km. Also has fab storage room. Have just obtained a large grass strimmer (see snap) that fitted on the back with out any problems. Although not as big as a Toyota pick up rear, it has plenty of room for my needs. The main thing I like it for is vision you can see above other cars makes safe driving even better.
  4. Well maybe it was a great idea to change to an Inverter. If you and others have also found that they do reduce costs. I have 5 aircons three not used that much. But the two that we do use are both LG inverters. One is on almost 24/7 They work great, quiet, as long as I service/clean them every 4 months They seem to plod on forever. The one that's on most of the time is 2 years old never a problem. Also not that expensive 14.500BHT fitted.
  5. All very good. I was referring to driving in the small roads in the country. Or even some large roads if it's raining hard. If you have ever done so you would know you can't see how deep they are or even how big, a lot of the time. I have been on main roads when it rains hard and roads can have a few inches of water just flowing across them. So you will either have to crawl along or take pot luck. If there's no one about likely on country roads. Just stick in 4X4 and you can go any speed you want, within reason, also a lot safer for all. I also like to drive carefully in the 25 years+ I have lived here I have never had an accident. Must be some sort of record.
  6. Maybe I should have used a different term. Maybe Grip. With a few inches of water on the road very common here, the steering becomes very light I think dangerous. Once in 4X4 it's like driving on a dry road. If you have a chance give it a go. You must have noticed that it you go through a large puddle the car will tend to swerve cos it's being dragged back by the water. In 4X4 you don't get that syndrome. All in all a much safer drive.
  7. It might well be but it's in the Book. Quote put in 4X4 every month and run for at least 16kKM. It goes on to say it's to mover the oil about round the axel and bearings. Do I do it every month??? most times or some time I do it even more sometimes less. I do it when I think of it when on a run of more than 16k never round town. As I said it's a Pig at slow speeds on tight turns.
  8. Well I must have changed the air filter the time before. I have so many old bills, and as I don't read Thai I just did my best in replying to a post that said he paid 5/6k BHT for his service. So one was for a tub of grease that must have been for greasing the prop they don't normally charge for that. I'm being done. Thank for the read out anyway. I'll ask next time I'm in Toyota for the A/filter price, but I doubt it's double. Whatever not a bad price for 8 LT of full Syn: oil. I though it would have been more.
  9. Thanks for that. I thought that my LG 12kBTU was quite cheap cost 14.5kBHT fitted. I only change it because I required a new aircon in a spare bedroom so got them to put the new one in my room and the old one in the spare room. Must say the LG is great much better than the old one. Mind you it was a tad old. Some 18 years but still plodded on. Your correct about servicing we used to get them done every 6 months now we have them done every 4 months. They work much better after being cleaned as can be run at a higher temp to get the same result. That must save as well.
  10. They don't make a permanent 4X4 now they are 2 wheel or 4X4 on demand. The last model they were permanent but not now. I chose a 4X4 this time, as my last one was permanent and it got me out of lots of trouble. Have I used it since I have had my newish one well several times. Mainly in the heavy rain as it helps with Aqua plaining of the front wheels. And twice getting me out of sand. If like you say monies isn't a problem get a 4X4. Just make sure you get the best model you can afford with a 2.8lt engine as it will give you much better KPL than the 2.4lt. Edit. They can be a real pig steering wise at slow speed on corners in 4X4 and they hate to go in reverse in 4X4. As long as you turn it of back into 2 wheel if it's not required your fine. A second edit If you get a 4X4 you have to use it in 4X4 every month for a distance of around 16KM to keep the front axel oil moving round. It's in the book.
  11. They did say Electric was going up. I get my bill on the 25th? of every month. Last month it was 3.300BHT This month payed it this morning was 2.550BHT I have ball parked the costs was a tad less but I rounded them up. The only thing I have done differently was have changed one of my A/C to an LG Duel Inverter. If that would make that much difference I doubt very much. So who knows. I was pleased anyway.
  12. I would suggest you do. As I think 5/6 k is well over the top. Hope it came out OK but 2 snaps of my last Toyota Bill. 1st is final cost second list of bits. Sorry don't ask as I can read Thai. But that was a big service where I changed Air filter and A/C filter + all the other bits it come out you will see it's around 2.880 BHT. I tell a lie it was 2.883.
  13. That's what I'm estimating my tires. Tuna was 5 year old in April, so next year when they get to 6 years old. If they look fine I might push it to 6.5. Toyota has quoted me 29K for four. But I can get 20" rim Dunlop cheaper than that in my local tire garage.
  14. When Toyota do my 5k service should be 10k. They change the oil with Toyota oil 8lt of Full Syn: Change the Eng: Filter. Clean or replace the A/C filter grease prop, and give the car a full look over. That includes taking the wheels off and clean and check brakes. Cost is always under 2.300BHT + more if I replace the A/C filter. That's what they do for a 10k service. So how comes you pay 5/6k??? Question do you live in Pattaya cos Toyota there always overcharge Non Thais.
  15. I have my Tuna serviced at Toyota Kamphaeng Phet and they always charge 2.300kBHT for 8lt syn: oil and filter. Comes to a few hundred more if I change the A/C filter. The most I have been charged was still under 3k BHT that's when I changed the A/C and air filter. As well as the oil and engine filter. Sorry but your being done.
  16. My Toyota Tuna is over 5 years old done coming up to 60k and there's loads of life left on my tires. Might have to change them next year more than likely in the 70K KM range. But might even get to 80k+ KM.
  17. I have had my Toyota Tuna TRD for over 5 years it's done coming up to 60k KM from new and The brakes pads an all 4 discs still have 75% life left in them. Must be the way you drive.
  18. I put the 800k in my Thai bank years ago in a deposit acc: so get interest. How do I get monies here simple I phone my Off shore bank and they send monies over to my Thai bank neither charge for this transaction. I get by on around 30/5k BHT a month for 3 of us, 2 dogs 3 cats some fish and a Bird, all require feeding. It's also not because I'm a cheap Charlie. I don't drink (Well do but don't like lager) Don't pay rent. Run a big diesel car and do low millage. But one of the biggest things is I don't live in a tourist area. If I lived in say Pattaya I would have to double that. Even more in Phuket.
  19. I don't know about the extreme heat we get here is why Toyota recommend 10k service. I do low Millage around 10K km per year. So get it service at 5k KM or 6 months. Cheap as chips, always less than 2.400BHT for 8lt Toyota Full syn: Oil and filter, grease prop and general check. Last time 55k KM they took all the wheels off and did a brake clean and re-grease for free. Will the Syn: oil last longer??? but the filter wont. So better to stick the the recommended service times.
  20. I have always used premium Diesel. But the other month I changed to B7 as that's what premium is, with they say additives??? I get 28+ LT of B7 for my 1000bht I normally put in, against less than 22 I get with premium. Enough to give me 100+ Km more for the same monies. Right have I found any difference in Power, less KPL well No. According to the comp: in my lump it's returning the same if anything a bit better. If your worried about KPL and cost, put B7 in you shouldn't have any problems. It's a diesel for buddha sake they will run on cooking oil.
  21. If it were me I would go for a new 2.8lt Vigo? (Whatever it' called now) Not the 2.4 as the 2.8 is much better than the 2.4 on fuel. If you can, go for the top of the range as it'll have most of the extras. As others have said Toyota is built to last. Having had 3 new Toyotas in the last almost 20 years I have never even had to change a light bulb. Must tell you something. If your paying cash ask for any extras for free. Tip just make sure it has LED lights as they are first class.
  22. Tip just try. Wash your Aluminum pans then when they are dry Take a clean cloth and wipe the inside. You will see it will have a back coating Aluminum Oxide loads of it and you say that it's better than Non stick??? S/steel is fine. But until it's been used a few times it' stick like crazy. Same as C/Iron that will also get a rust coating. And you worried about the Non stick coming off. N/B It doesn't if you use a sponge to clean it. Also get a good one to start with.
  23. If it's any help, I buy Diamond Chef from Makro. They are cheap and non stick. Just clean them with a sponge and the Non stick last for ever. They do several sizes and types I got a wok type one yesterday 32cm and that was 299bht. The normal F/Pan I obtained several months ago still works fine. Handles are great never get hot. Have tried over the years several different makes. And find Diamond Chef are just as good if not better + you save a few BHT. N/B I cook on gas.
  24. Your making a mountain out of a mole hill. Hire it and go where you like it's as simple as that. If you get a book with it to fill out you can do it in pencil or not bother. I have had 3 lots of red plates Never filled out any books. The last lot of R/P I got were from BKK and I live 350 km north of BKK. Was I stopped well NO. Did I fill out the book NO. Drove at night Yes.
  25. Even though greasing the Prop and other bits is in the book they never seem to do it. Do what I do and sit with your car when they service it. The two Toyo garages I use lets me do it, so should yours. While it's on the ramp point out what you want done. There will always be a language problem. I do it the Thai way by pointing LOL. It also gives you an idea of what's going on under the car. Tip just don't get in their way.
