  1. You pay for medicine here. no free consultations or treatments. Either the Government hospital or private. medical insurance is very much a requirement.

This is the one thing I cant understand about a lot of farangs in Thailand....they move to a foreign country and have no recourse to free medical services/treatment and yet they dont take out any form of medical insurance

Thats all very well to say ,but who will insure someone who is in their late 60s? when i came here 7 years ago the cheapest insurance i could get (and that did not cover pre existing ) was over two thousand pounds a year ,so if i am now taken ill i have that 14 thousand pounds to use.

If you can't afford it, don't move to Thailand.

  2. Mr Thaksin will not return to Thailand any time soon because he knows eventually someone will shoot him dead.....

Which would make him a martyr and re-energize the radical red shirt faction(s). Not to mention plunge the country further in to chaos.

It would not be in anybody's interest. It would seriously backfire.

If Thaksin isn't around to pay the Red Shirts - the only thing they are going to "re-energize" is their next bottle of Thai Whiskey while waiting for the evening soaps. You don't think these people are ideologues do you? lol

  3. Lets thing which is more likely - that one of the most recognized medical facilities and medical schools in the world announced a breakthrough that is really someone else's work, or has already been discovered...or some low level translator at The Nation New Group mistranslated the announcement that was filled with technical scientific terms.

But you guys go on - don't let me get in the way of your umpteenth Thailand b#tch session.

  4. "they"? rolleyes.gif

The other paper has now done three articles on the incident. I don't think "they" (whoever that means) did anything. Articles do get pulled from time to time and it's been my experience that they do so when they are re-written with either additional information or to correct articles that were in error.

One of the main issues regarding the incident now seems to revolve around the police and how they didn't inform either group that there was no court case that day (the reason for both rallies). Even before the first group (the yellow shirts) arrived, the case had been already been decided that a continuance was issued and the case would be heard at the end of October. They failed to inform the yellow shirts as well as the red shirts who came later. The police also are being questioned as to the poor job they did keeping the two groups separate.

Thai police are fracking terrible. Two chimpanzees with batons could do a better job, and cheaper.

  5. No offence to anyone here at all, but I also have never seen the appeal. I've had plenty of short-term Thai girlfriends and never found them to be a 'drama' like so many others. I think if you fawn all over them, they often treat you like sh1t, just like women the world over.

However, I've never really been able to get that close to Thai girls, or any of the other girls I've dated in developing countries. Many guys I've known have ended up with Thai or Khmer wives because they have broken relationships in the West and feel bitter and resentful towards Western women. I, however, have had some great relationships (and some bad one) and have never used the term that is so popular in Cambodia 'FWC' for 'Fat White Cow', a term that is applied to every white woman.

I also don't feel I've ever had a good conversation with a Thai girlfriend. I remember looking up at the moon one night, to hear my Thai girlfriend say 'you heb same moon England?' I don't find these things endearing, these comments do not make me go 'aaaaw'.

I want to be able to talk about deep politics and philosophy sometimes... I want to watch a film that doesn't have slapstick comedy in or explosions every 3 minutes. I want to be able to crack a dry joke and for my girlfriend to get it. I want her to appreciate who I am, and not just love the fact she's got a white boyfriend.

Sweeping generalizations, I know, and it's nothing against Thai women. I made a pledge to myself some years ago (after a Ugandan girlfriend) that I would never date a girl from a developing country again (other than to just ).

There's too much going on, they can't fall in love with me, not just because I'm an *sshole but because all they see are the opportunities that could be had if I was married to them. I always feel a good comparison is if I met a rich, Texan millionaire <deleted>.. all I'd be thinking is 'I have to make this work' rather than getting to know if we would make a good couple or not.

    This just works for me..

Maybe you should hang out with a better class of Thai women. Venture outside Nana...

Phwoar, she's a looker, where did she get her degree from, can she even speak english, wonder if she's well known at the holiday Inn, what did she do for a job before she got this one, who's her daddy, does she even know where parliament is, doesn't matter 'cos she'll be shopping for handbags as soon as your back's turned.

And all because the PM MP is a woman.......................................

Drinking while you post is guaranteed to screw up punctuation every time.
