  2. To be fair it must be annoying for the Thais to have the jews and muslims fighting in their back garden and ruining the neighbourhood.

To be fair to the Muslims, it must be annoying to have Thais claim sovereignty over your land, then occupy for over 100 years it under the threat of force, and deny your basic freedoms like using your own language or practicing your own religion and culture.

To be even fairer to Muslims, it must be equally as annoying having Thais hiding behind the skirt of Britain (as they have done for 150 years) and America (as they have done since WWII), while partaking in an illegal invasion of an Islamic country and the occupation of another.

Nothing says "Somebody just peed in my corn flakes" like Mien Fuhrer entering into the conversation on any thread - welcome Ober Storm Crow

  3. All I can say is ... would you want Iran to have control of an atomic bomb with its "ting tong" clergymen in charge?

As much as I wouldn't want the war mongering western powers to have control of one either. Again there is no proof of weapons and bombs being built a view supported by the CIA.

Remember Iraq ~ To this day they still haven't found weapons of mass destruction!!

amazing how many think that Iran is making a bomb, or even close to having a bomb. The CIA says they dont have a bomb nor are making one. The group that does the inspections on an international level say they don't have a bomb nor are they making one. Pakistan, Israel and other nuclear powers with bombs are not a part of the international proliferation act, and Pakistan is selling nuclear technology to north korea, but no problem there.

What the US is after has nothing to do with nuclear anything, it's about a country with a ton of oil that is going to sell it for something other than the US paper coupons aka "the dollar".

Instead to off becoming a country of integrity again, the US continues on it's bullying empirical nation building, looting and murder. Drop the corruption and start representing the people, problem is they have been bought, doped up by pseudo wealth and are now slaves. mad.gif

    Spot On!!

And what of the yellow cake uranium that was removed from Iraq and transported to Canada?

    http://www.msnbc.msn...s-uranium-iraq/

And what of the chemical and biological weapon residues that are now poisoning Iraqis?

    http://www.iraqwatch...biological.html

You conveniently neglect the fact that Iraq used poisonous gas in its war with Iran.

Iran is proceeding with the development of a nuclear weapon courtesy of Pakistan, amd with the indirect assistance of China and Russia.

Amazing that it took Iran to get GK and Animatic on the same page clap2.gif

Oh, I don't know, maybe when they started rioting, attacking unarmed bystanders, intimidating anyone who disagreed with them shooting at soldiers, lobbing grenades, and burning down dozens of buildings, most sensible people took those actions to be completely crazy.

They were protesting a theft of their elected Govt. via a coup

Then when attacked by the representatives of that coup, they fought back.

What did you expect them to do ...."hey, roll me over and do it again".

Most protests turn into riots when protesters are attacked.

Your characterization of their fightback is grossly magnified in keeping with the agenda of the armed aggressors who attacked them.

Several of the fightback scenarios you reference are in dispute, as to who was responsible. Several were done by the coupists in order to embarrass the Red Shirts.

Those who fired the bullets killing over 90 taxpayers seem to be blameless with you. But the fightback is demonized. Doesn't compute.

If it was as you say, the voters in the last election were not convinced, and did not succumb to the Opposition's agenda as you have. They elected these Red Shirts, thereby validating their protests, and invalidating the attack upon them.

If things were as you say, are the voters complicit then?

No they weren't, you can't possibly believe that. They had an election, and their party WON! They had two chances to form the government, failed miserably both times, and then the opposition got a chance. Yes I am sure there was army arm twisting, and I don't agree with that - but they asked for, and got an early election date AND TURNED IT DOWN. Stop sputtering about coup this, coup that. They had a chance 6 months to get everything they wanted - but Thaksin wanted more, they rejected the offer (on national tv, do you remember? hard to spin that) and then proceeded to intensify their protests SYSTEMATICALLY to provoke a reaction.

You believe they didn't' fire at soldiers? You believe they didn't' lob grenades? You believe they didn't torch dozens of buildings? You are wrong. Fact.

  5. You guys need to get out more. Both varities are very common all over Thailand - if you understood Thai, you would know that when the waiter speaks to you after you point to the Tom Yum, he is asking you which version you prefer.

  6. So why are the UDD/Red Shirts seen as negative by some Farangs?

Oh, I don't know, maybe when they started rioting, attacking unarmed bystanders, intimidating anyone who disagreed with them shooting at soldiers, lobbing grenades, and burning down dozens of buildings, most sensible people took those actions to be completely crazy.

That they did these things is not debatable - so you must approve of them, which is pretty sad IMO

  7. I still don't know what they want to amend in the constitution. So far the only talk is about amending an article to start the amending process, but the ultimate goal, zip, nada, nothing.

Rubl has kindly posted the full text of Section 291 of the current constitution. From what I heard, the government's intention is the deletion of the second sentence of paragraph (1), ie the deletion of the following text:

    A motion for amendment which has the effect of changing the democratic regime of government with the King as Head of State or changing the form of State shall be prohibited;

Heard from who? The reason that have to amend this section is to allow for the creation of a constitution drafting committee, legally. The sky, however, might well be falling. Go out and check, would you?

  8. Thailand is both the place where dreams come true, and also where dreams are made (by the Tourism department).

The recent calls for prostitution to be wiped out, or at least controlled, will affect tourism numbers. I am sorry to shock some of you, but a very large percentage of tourists visit places like Pattaya, Phuket, and other places, specifically for sex. These types of people, who are often at least middle class, if not very wealthy people at home, are not in the least interested in "running the gauntlet" and putting themselves at risk of being prosecuted when places like Cambodia are still inviting of this type of tourism (yes, it is not nice, but sex tourism is real). Take a good look at how the Philippines recent crackdown on prostitution in Angeles City changed profits from tourism. Pattaya, will not always be Pattaya.. it is Pattaya, because it is allowed to grow freely, without restriction or control from the Thai Government.

The Baht will weaken as exports in rice and other products fall as a direct result of government intervention and cheaper alternatives provided by nearby countries at a cheaper price. This will have a positive affect on tourism. Though, with the greed of the market, prices skyrocketing in tourist areas every year, it is now nearly as expensive for me to eat in central Bangkok as it is to eat in Central Auckland, without the security, the clean streets, the unbroken pavements, and the endless rows of beggars crowding the footpaths.

If you want to charge developed world prices, provide a developed world experience.

Other places, which were once beautiful for their "thainess" (e.g. Isaan) are becoming more touristy, as girls come back from Pattaya with their terrible habits of cheating foreigners, and spoiling something which was very beautiful to me, the innocence and open kindness of many rural Thai communities.

Thailand would be far better off without the sexpats - hope they can raise the standard of living further, and the quality of education - but will take many more decades. Don't worry all, your hookers are still safe!
