  1. I am on my own deep well 80mt, the water is clear but it
contains iron bacteria once exposed to the air, so my filters look worse than yours but it is totally
harmless and tastes better than any bottled water one it passes through the sediment/carbon/resin filters then the ultraviolet.

So as one poster said you could be on a commercial development with their own well?

  2. For the past few days programs loading is slow and erratic.

I am running windows xp pro service pack 2,(loaded at an IT
mall two years ago) on an Acer Aries desktop, AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual core
    processor 5200+ 2.7GHz, 1.75GB ram .

Computer only used for Music/photos/emails/ web.

I removed any unwanted programs then used CC,Cleaner,
windows Registry Repair and then defragged and scanned with Malware Bytes,
    Superanti Spyware and panda Cloud.

Still programs are still very slow to respond, and sometimes the mouse clicks dont respond, windows task
manager shows HWDEVICE SERVICE peaking from 0
    to 56% cpu continually.

    Any ideas would be appreciated

I just stopped the HWDEVICE SERVICE from loading and the cpu usage is down to 12% with using the internet and using Winamp, Stil dont know what the HWDSERVICE is.

Do I need all the 47 processes that the Task Manager say I have?

  3. Hi

I have had two pairs of progressive, one with tint and one clear, 6000 Baht per pair, from the opticians inside tesco on Sukumvit, couldnt fault the service.

  4.

Measure your voltages to a big screwdriver in the lawn (real earth).

A L-N swap could have serious consequences for those who have a MEN installation leading to lots of live metalwork around your home, not something you would want.

For those on a TT installation (no MEN link) swapping L-N is not likely to damage your kit, but is still a hazard to your health because all the wiring will be live even if you think it's turned 'off'.

    Hi Crossy

The reading I took was from the earth stake in the garden, thanks

  5. Noticed that a couple of starters for the fluorescent lights
have a dim glow, we had this problem before when the electric boys connected
the wires to the meter the wrong way round.

This time no work has been done that I know about, but now I
have 183 volt on the neutral & 31 volts on the live, could this ruin my electrical
equipment, by the time they get it sorted.

    Thanks

  6. I arrived at 7:30 am and was fifth in the queue outside the doors. By the time the doors were opened (well before opening time) the queue behind me stretched out into the road. The re-entry ticket I got was number 3 so I didn't have to wait more than a few minutes but in twelve years I have never seen the place so packed out. Perhaps it is time to have another building just for the Russians!

Why would so many people now want a reentry permit, is this a loophole to abuse the system?

I can only speculate that many are preparing to leave because they want to

    • enjoy spring/summer in the northern hemisphere,
    • avoid the hot season here, and
    • escape Songkran.
Lines at the airport around this time of year confirm the exodus. Still, I've never waited so long for a re-entry permit. Maybe TAT isn't lying so much when it says the number of visitors to Thailand is up sharply.

Desk 1 and 2 deal with visa xtensions and re-entry.. most people are applying for an extension not a re-entry imo.

Thank you, that makes it clear now.

  8.

OK, as promised, here is my report about 90 day address reporting:

The poorly designed sign at the desk says these are needed:

    1. Copy passport

    2. Copy visa

    3. Copy document for address

A young Thai woman gave me a queue ticket. She asked me if I had a copy of my passport i.d. page, I said yes, she didn't look.

At the reporting desk, I presented exactly what the Pattaya City Expats Club says to present as I linked to before:

    1. Copy passport I.D. page.

    2. Copy T.M. 6 (white card)

    3. Copy showing last permission to stay date (in my case a retirement extension)

    4. Copy proof of address

I did not, repeat did NOT, present a copy of my original VISA.

At the reporting desk a lady officer looked at all my documents and accepted them. She, did NOT demand a copy of my original VISA. This was exactly as I had expected and exactly as you should expect.

I feel my previous opinion that a copy of the ORIGINAL visa is not needed was well confirmed.

I think some people confuse what a visa is. Including that very poorly designed SIGN.

A question I have now is whether the TM 6 card copy is actually still needed. I think it is, but only by having people not offer it (when documents examined) could we know for sure.

There is no doubt that you DO need some proof of your address.

Cheers, and happy reporting. You don't need a copy of your ORIGINAL visa. Is that clear enough?

Also went today for the 90 day, documents as jingthing said, European chap just gave me the ticket, didn't even look at my documents, 30 before me, but was out in 30 min.

  9. Can you share any details? Some TrueMove H SIMs have 60 day validity dates requiring use at least once within 60 days, or maybe your balance has reached zero? More detail might yield potential causes and solutions?

Its a post pay contract so no time limit, the True staff just exchange the sim after numerious attempts to find the problem.

  10. Has anyone else had problems with the True H sim cards.

I have had two that only lasted three months before not connecting to the
internet, yet the old Hutch CDMA card lasted for five years until it was
replaced with the True H card.

  11.

We were second in the queue, there were two cars waiting for

the green light to turn right, I couldn’t go on the inside to filter left

because there was a pickup delivering charcoal luckily for us, a pickup coming

very fast from the right went through on red and side swiped a truck that was

turning, he sent the truck spinning up the road.

He then hit the electric pole on the corner where we would

    have been turning.

If that is the driver wearing a blue tee shirt, when we saw him sat at the wheel he was wearing a long sleeved white shirt ????

  13. After my pathetic first attempt to grow tomatoes in Thailand failed due to the ongoing rain, I decided to grow them under a canopy, this would also shade the plants from direct sun.

The varieties are Ailsa Craig (Heirloom) & Marmande (continental beefsteak)

The seeds were planted on 12th November 2012, and I just picked the first Marmande today 20th February 2013, the Ailsa Craig are slowly stating to ripen, on the five plants are about sixty five tomatoes.

The tomato feed was a homemade brew.

The main problem I have is Leaf Minor, totally my fault because I thought the little striped flies with clear wings were after insects, but actually were injecting larvae into the leaf.

    Happy Growing

  14. We've got water back on now....

I've seen them filling up the water trucks from the ponds by the cart racing track off Thepprasit. Not good...

still no water on wat boon

no surprised they are taking water from free sources, they must be making a fortune, never seen so many water trucks running up and down the road here

just passed Soi Wat Boon on Sukumvit yesterday there was a 2inch blue pipe coming from second floor of a shop house filling up tankers, the tanker was overflowing no water problem there, this could be a money making sceme.

  15. lovely dog family. how are they now?

Hi, They are fine and getting bigger every day, they are now traveling further afield so I think they will go their seperate ways.

Another little bitch turned up on the land next door, she can stay there safe, so she now has my attention untill she puts a little weight on.

  16. Thanks everyone for your replies!

I thought Ryanair were the worst in Europe, it sounds like AB could give them a run for their money!

I had read the AB posts here already and that is why I was so wary about going with them but in the end I was only able to book my flights last Thurs to fly this week. I checked all the airlines from BKK to any airport in Europe and they were cheaper by 400e than any other ( for obvious reasons now ! ) the flight frm BKK-DUS was only 280euro

20kg for a long haul flight is crazy, I think with Etihad they allow you 2 bags weighing 23kg each !!!!

Will have to hope for the best , I am sure by the sounds of it they will be trying to nail people with excess weight this week as they know people will have extra luggage travelling home for Christmas. Will let you know how it goes.

    Thanks again!

"the flight frm BKK-DUS was only 280euro*

    Difficult to argue with that.

    IS THAT + TAX
