  1. If you do find one let me know, I am looking for one myself.

Also, did you request a manual thru your local dealer ?

When I bought my Navara from the dealer in Pattaya I asked the them for a hand book in English, i was quite surprised when he opened the cupboard there must have been 30 English handbooks.

  2. I have a borehole 80mt deep in my garden , it has now started throwing up sand/grit if used for too long, so watering the garden is getting out of the question, it’s been in use for around 6 years so I figure it needs cleaning out.

The problem is it is not very accessible for any large trucks etc without damaging the tiles and garden, although the airline from the compressor could be put through the holes in the wall, I don’t fancy knocking the wall down, Do all the well drillers always use the big drilling rig to clean out boreholes, or is there a portable option, Last of all any idea of the cost. Thanks

  3. It’s that time of the year again flies flies flies, the spreading hen muck on the fields even attracts more.

Is there any where in Pattaya that sells the good old fashioned sticky fly papers that you hang from the ceiling, I don't like using too many sprays makes the gin taste funny. Thanks

  4. We had a a cobra in the pool house yesterday, caught it with my snake pole and let it free over the wall, last week there was a 2 foot monitor lizard trying to get in through the gate the dogs weren't to pleased.and this morning another snake over a meter long was put back over the wall.

If they don't harm me I don't harm them.

  5. I have never used the Hurlcom model so cannot comment on it but installed many Chloromatics over the years. If you use an ESC 16 which is self cleaning then you will need to run it 8 hours per day for a 30m3 pool if you are not going to use pool stabilizer. You can buy a cheap Panasonic timer which can be connected to your pump & chlorinator for about 700 Baht. It is important both go on & off at the same time.

I use to leave my salt chlorinator plugged in with a timer, until the lightning fried two salt chlorinator units, I now turn it on manually and unplug it when finished or when a storm looks imminent. :):D

  6. Is this a skimmer or an overflow pool?

I'm afraid I'm not familiar with the terminology. All I know it that it's a fairly standard run of the mill swimming pool. We have an external pump and a single drain on the side where the water gets recirculated. The drain has both a plastic filter and a cloth bag, but it should be pointed out that very few of the critters are getting caught in the filter, they seem to go straight to the bottom of the pool and remain there. When I use the pool vacuum cleaner all the bugs get sucked into the cloth bag when then gets removed and cleaned by hand, then replaced. I was hoping someone might know of a device which automatically sucks the bugs off the bottom when the pool is not in use.

Thanks for the tip on the neem oil. Anyone know the Thai name for it?

Here is a picture of the bottle, the dilution I use is 30ml/cc per litre of water

You will find some useful information here http://www.plant-care.com/pest-control-wit...pesticides.html

  7. We usually obtain the retirement visa extension using the proof of income with a letter from the British Consulate costing 2000 Baht

This year if I renew the extension six weeks early with just over 800,000 in the bank I can avoid paying the 2000 Consulate fee, leaving the renewal any later might stretch the finances, will they allow this and will Immigration accept that the 800,000 is divided in two Thai banks providing that I get letters from both banks.

    Thanks

  8. Check valves/ none return valves

How many of you guys have check valves fitted to your borehole water pipes, I don’t! When the pump stops I can hear the water rushing back down to the pump, at first I thought this was correct, IE to flush the pump out.

But after reading the Franklin site they recommend at least 2 check valves to be fitted (some pumps have internal check valves)

So are they really needed, or is it just that Thai well drillers can save a few Baht by not fitting them.

The website below has some interesting reading

  9. My borehole in Najomtien (75 metres plus) has been running fine for the last five years and always giving crystal clear water, but in the last two weeks the water has become cloudy, and is blocking all the filters within a short time, there is no shortage of water, I tried raising the pump 2 metres ,lots of water but still cloudy.

On the hill behind the house they are building a resort, could the bore holes drilled there plus construction be now affecting the underground water.

I will ask my neighbor on his return how his water quality is.

Any help always gratefully received. :)

  10. I also had a Aeroklas fitted to my Navara, the Nissan garage took me to the accessory shop in naklua, this is the place that Nissan & Toyota use for the window tints and all the fancy extras, the cost was 23000 for the electric model including the paint job to match the pickup. If you ask Toyota I am sure that they will point you in the right direction.

as a second thought it's just past naklua on Sukumvit on the left next to the ESSO garage before the Nissan garage.

  11. Seasonal change perhaps, I have noticed over the years periodic shortages. One can always pay 30Baht for a nice big yellow lemon at Friendship! :)

    30 BAHT FOR A LEMON, THAT'S ALMOST A POUND STERLING, I DON'T THINK SO, I DON'T HAVE A MONEY TREE :D :D

  12. The Ariel Arrow. Must be one of the ugliest production bikes ever made. :)post-41816-1268045017_thumb.jpg

Yep I used to have one, the main engine support bolt would vibrate its way through the frame/tin box, and the exhaust pipes always fell off, in its day it was ok, or you could have gone for the BSA bantam. :D :D

  13. Could you briefly explain what if house is wired MEN actually means?

The MEN (Multiple Earthed Neutral) system of earthing is an arrangement that uses the network neutral conductor as the conductive path for installation earth fault currents.

    MEN explained

Thanks, as you can see from photo I don't have MEN

And seeing that in this area we get frequent lightning strikes to the ground I don’t think I with alter what I have

    post-9958-1266726649_thumb.jpg

  14. Sorry guys, I'm confused.

Crossy, you state that MEN is the proper way to wire a house here in LOS, which I see your point. However, unless I misinterpret these posts, it seems that NOT wiring it MEN would alleviate the problems of reversed L and N. What am I missing?

Don’t forget by Reversing N&L if you intend to work on a particular circuit you can’t just throw the breaker for that circuit because it will still be live

  15. OK - I was a bit cheeky about the "negative" references. Anyway... single phase (which most of us have) also has neutral.

The thing is, I just can't imagine the situation as described. If the system was grounded and the wires crossed at the meter, something would have fried (probably the supply cable effectively connecting the hot feed to ground). If the system was totally ungrounded, then it wouldn't have made any difference.

    Or, what's an explanation?

Remember that the MEN link is in the distribution board linking ground to the incoming N. Reversing L and N at the meter then puts 220V on N. This in turn puts 220V on G.

The resistance to ground (via the ground stake) is likely in excess of 200 Ohms (IEE regs allow 800 in a TT system) so a current of a few amps will flow down the ground wire pulling it and anything connected to it towards L potential, how high it gets depends upon the ground resistance, but it will certainly get high enough to bite.

In the OPs case it seems he did not have MEN so the only side-effect was his fluorescents glowing when off.

    Hi Crossy

Could you briefly explain what if house is wired MEN actually means?

  16. This is where the direct or TT earthing system has an advantage, if the polarity of supply is reversed a hazardous situation is not created.

Most Thai electrical installations do not use the MEN system.

Exactly david, this is my biggest worry about having MEN in Thailand. All is fine, then some tit reverses the supply at the meter (like happened to our OP) and all grounded metalwork heads in the direction of line potential.

This is not the first report of L N reversal being caused by idiots :D

They duly arrived today to reverse the wires, so all is Ok, wouldn’t you think that they would have checked all the other properties to see if any other mistakes have been made “or is that me being an IDIOT” :):D
