  1. I don't know if it's true, but I once heard the diesel here is "dirty", hence the smoke. My first truck used to blow black smoke when climbing steep hills, even when brand new. And it wasn't the only one, I discovered when talking with other owners.

  2. There's more to the Wing 41 day than military. There are fire engines biggrin.png Big ones biggrin.png Just what all kids love to see. And maybe a 747 will taxi by biggrin.png

Go early to try & avoid the traffic.

Might even take the kids this year wink.png

  3. Before we got a rubbish collection service, we used to recycle almost everything. What was left would only fill a supermarket plastic bag once a week. That's for a family of 4.

  4. The OP does have a point in that most pickup passenger seats lack the range of adjustment of the driver seat. I am 6'4" and never felt uncomfortable in a Vigo once the seat is adjusted but there's bugger all room for the rear-seat passengers. However, there's no seat height adjustment in most bog-standard pickup passenger seats and I do feel too high up when I am sitting on the left side.

    Even in your Ranger?

  5. I actually saw an articulated truck driver use his indicators today, I was riding behind on my motorbike when I made this very unusual sighting. Is it possible it wasn't a Thai who was driving this truck?

The articulated truck drivers are usually the most professional drivers on the road in my opinion. I assume you mean the petrol tanker, container truck drivers. Trucks pulling trailers are a different story.

They are indeed, in the UK anyway, I was one. But not in Thailand. A lot of them are drugged up to stay awake, another thing, look at the inside lane on many Thai highways, some of them are in a dreadful state because of overladen trucks, what is professional about these "drivers"? No, if you are looking at professional truckers, don't look in Thailand.

I was talking about the articulated truck drivers. They seem to me to be a lot more professional than the other idiots driving the overladen, speeding, manic trucks you see everywhere here.. Seen a few idiots driving trucks in UK. Obviously you wouldn't have wink.png

  6. Of course complaining about it on here does absolutely nothing.

I don't think anyone's really complaining here, this is an annual thread, the nature of which has changed somewhat over the past eight to ten years but it's primary goal every year is to raise awareness of the issues, in that respect it has been hugely useful and educational.

And, hopefully, anyone of sound mind will realise this is not the place to relocate to. Unless, of course, they're interested in buying my house, sorry, my wife's house wink.png

  8. You can drive up in a car. Keep going past the temple, past the palace. Turn up to the right at the t junction where left is down to the tourist trap hmong village. The road reaches a barrier blocking access to the road up to the peak of Doi Pui. Head down to the right, through the visitors centre, down to the coffee shop & ornamental gardens where the sakura trees are. The road is narrow. Best to avoid weekends when half of Chiang Mai is up there & passing on coming trucks can get tricky.
